If you were hoping Strange New Worlds would be a course-correction for the unbelievably low quality and rampant stupidity of nuTrek, you’re gonna have a bad time. This new show is just as dumb, tedious and awful as STD or Picard. Maybe worse.

Trek fans, it’s time to let go. It’s over. I know it sucks, but you have all the evidence you need now that it is never, ever going to get better.

Buy the DVD/Blu-ray if all the classic Trek shows, and then never give the talentless hacks at Paramount+ another dollar for as long as you live. It’s the least they deserve for killing Star Trek forever.

It makes it unwatchable when everyone keeps making dumb decisions and never learn once from their mistakes.

The only thing they're discovering in deep space is a myriad of virtue signals and woke nonsense. If you want to watch a better space show, try "Orville". What started out as a parody, has become a much better show, with deeper character work, than this show could possibly muster.

This show is rad. I enjoy the return to episodic storytelling and all that characters are interesting and fun. Ethan Peck kills it as Spock. Anson Mount as Capt Pike is fantastic. Jess Bush as Nurse Chapel is possibly my favorite. I wish the special effects weren't so muddy and "realistic." Between this and Lower Decks all the old and new Trek fans should be very happy.

User score is almost bang on for this series (pilot). I'm giving it a lower 5/10 because this pilot plot dives immediately into earth/humanoid politics, so much for 'strange new worlds'. Also, It feels as if the creators try way to hard and the dialogue comes across very silly almost child like. Maybe next couple of episodes will turn the corner, but I really have my doubts.

Weak stories. Woke production. Plastic caricatures of Start Trek characters. Weak relationships. Some good acting but mostly weak. This is another example of how to wreck a timeless series that Disney has gotten very good at. We rate it a "don't waste your time."

This appears to be the more of the same as previous recent Star Treks - instead of focus on sci-fi, we get modern gender tropes (you know, men weak and stupid, women flawless) situated in incoherent, boring stories.

Finally! Some real Star Trek. It's been nearly 2 decades since I have been able to say that I genuinely liked the direction that Star Trek was going. Strange New Worlds captures the optimism and sophistication that Trek deserves. Everything comes together for a great though imperfect representation that I'm proud to accept as Star Trek.

Pike and Spock carry over the same great chemistry from Discovery without the convoluted and awkward overarching plot. Uhura is delightful and inspiring. The Dialogue is witty and sharp. The cinematography ditches the rapid cuts and excessive lens effects of Discovery and the story lacks the stodgy stuffiness of Picard. The CG could be smoother and a few FX shots were disorienting and inconsistent. Spatial permanence and motion consistency was iffy at times but it was overall forgivable and felt more creative and faithful than recent forays into the world of Trek. The re-imagination of the Enterprise it self is my favorite redesign from the past 30 years. the story was bold and daring. Immediately relevant but not shoehorned. Over all, Good Trek, I'm looking forward to next week.

Best pilot ep for a Trek show since Emissary. Trek pilots usually range from awful to meh. Anson Mount was great in Discovery, and he's just as great here. Haven't been this excited to watch a next episode since DS9. I like the newer Trek shows, Voyager, and Enterprise--but I think there might be something extra special brewing with this one.

Strongest premiere episode of any Trek season. The show could fall apart as things progress but it's strong out of the gate. I'm thinking back to literally all the pilot episodes from all the other Trek shows (The Cage for TOS, Encounter at Farpoint for TNG, The Emissary for DS9, etc) and Strange New Worlds is by far the most engaging.

The first episode was a decent 6.5. The hamfisted "Jan 6" scene already breaks canon (Trump and Obama don't exist in canon because there was the Eugenics war in the 90's which they now set after 2024 for no reason at all). It was the best of New Trek, but other than that small moment, the episode was great.

The second episode is a solid 8.

Bottom line, don't listen to the rigid and narrow-minded trolls who can't handle anything new or different, Strange New Worlds is good. Pike is pretty much everything you want in a captain-- wise, caring, funny, dignified, compassionate, and strong. Supporting cast has a lot of potential, and Number 1 and Spock are both intriguing and competent. The show's premise and overarching plot seems like it will include the best parts of TOS, TNG, and Voyager. Don't let the immature knee-jerk haters stop you from enjoying what Strange New Worlds has to offer-- adventure, exploration, scientific advancement, contemplation of deeper philosophies and ideas, personal growth, and fun.

I love Anson Mount's performance in the role, but the conflicts the character has to deal with proved too big, too challenging for the show to do justice to, something we saw most prominently in the one bad episode of the season, episode 6.

But before this, I'm not sure Star Trek has ever even had a good first season. If this show becomes as much better by its third season as Trek shows usually do, it's on the path to becoming the best they've ever made. The arc they've set up for season 2 is already one I find very exciting, particularly because it's following up on one of the very best episodes of this season. I cannot wait.

EDIT: The season would have greatly improved with an episode each focused on Christine and Erica. Christine's story with Spock would've worked better if she also had a story that wasn't about Spock, and Erica's antics in the finale really needed some established backstory.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Frankly this series is very good. The two factors pulling down my rating are: a) it’s too short, and b) there are a couple of clunker episodes.
With all of that said the casting (except for Jim Kirk in the finale) is excellent. The writing in general is very good, and the production values are exceptional.
Whenever someone reviews a Star Trek series they fall into heavy comparing to their favorite series of the past. The problem there is the rose colored glasses that most reviewers wear.
TOS was not perfect, not by a long shot. But TOS gets extra credit because of the iconic characters that were created. And there are roughly a half dozen episodes that still hold up. There are MANY that were awful. And they didn’t improve with age.
Same thing with TNG. The first season was largely poor and so was a good portion of season two. But again, those iconic characters and the actors that portrayed them grew and developed into something special. And please, Gene Roddenberry was not the gifted writer/creator of shining morality that diehard fans choose to believe in. As a human being let’s just say he wouldn’t have survived the “Me Too” era. And as an executive producer he almost managed to kill TNG and the motion picture franchise until wiser heads prevailed and removed him from creative control.
This series is actually better in its first season than any other Star Trek series, ever. The acting is better, the casting is better and the stories (for the most part) are very good too.
Instead of stunt casting with legacy characters (Picard) or pandering to niche audience categories (Discovery) the show runner and series creator have made several great decisions. The stand alone episodes with clever character arcs percolating in the background, building in a connection to the past without subverting the present, and creating what feels like a collaborative and positive team on the Enterprise.
This is a character driven action series. Not the soap opera over at Discovery, or the confused jumble on Picard. And the actors are up to the task. Whether it’s a new character that dies too soon, or a wounded but talented player that displays interesting layers to her persona, this series succeeds in introducing people you care about from day one.
To get the full SNW experience you’ll need to drive into the last two or three episodes of STD season two where Una, Pike and the Enterprise are introduced. It’s a slog, I have to say, because the Discovery crew are still in many scenes, but in the end it will make your SNW journey richer.
Here’s hoping they don’t mess it up in season 2 by trying to get cute. And find a better James T Kirk.

So this show has some hit and misses but the misses are starting to out weight it all. Cartoon into living beings, god have you destroyed what could have gone amazing.

Comfort blanket Trek with a great cast, snappy writing and plenty of strands to unwind in future episodes, Strange New Worlds achieves everything it intends. But there’s a lingering feeling that there’s perhaps not quite enough that’s strange or new.

The first six episodes are fun, light, and well-crafted, but much of what Strange New Worlds offers can’t help but come off as clever franchise strategizing.

“Strange New Worlds” is at its best in its fifth episode, which delivers more cheeky fun and short bursts of character development with economy that are more meaningful than the paragraphs of breathless character exposition found in the first four episodes.
