For those whose first lockdowns were brightened by Staged, it will be a welcome return. Anyone sick to the back teeth of Zoom may want to seek out something slightly more escapist.

Staged is at its best when the duo are being funny, rather than debating whether or not they’re funny.

Even for a show powered by self-mockery and faux grandiosity (although it does often feel a smidgeon smug given how talented they both are) it was a clever move to have Palin telling them that Staged was basically crap.

We were never quite sure which bits were scripted or why Sheen was shouting at the birds but, whatever, it felt right at the time. Not so much now. What was innovative and generous in June comes across, six months later, as stale and indulgent. Our patience has worn thin. The moment has passed.
