It’s surprising to see how much “Staged” Season 2 is a natural build on the first six episodes. For those whose first lockdowns were brightened by Staged, it will be a welcome return. Anyone sick to the back teeth of Zoom may want to seek out something slightly more escapist.

We were never quite sure which bits were scripted or why Sheen was shouting at the birds but, whatever, it felt right at the time. Not so much now. What was innovative and generous in June comes across, six months later, as stale and indulgent. Our patience has worn thin. The moment has passed.
