This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s good to see Star Wars no longer running from the Prequels and confronting the ramifications of the events of those movies head-on. So far, after 3 episodes, this series is very much a vehicle for exploring Obi-Wan’s damage after failing to save Anakin and contributing to the fall of the Jedi Order; Ewan McGregor, backed by an incisive script, approaches the material with emotionally appropriate gravitas and his return to this classic character who he helped define (and helped to define him) in the pop culture zeitgeist after so many years is a triumph.

Vivien Blair’s portrayal of little Leia does Carrie Fisher a great service and is perhaps a better homage to the spirit Carrie brought to Star Wars than even her posthumous appearance in Rise of Skywalker. Leia is also a constant reminder of Padme for Obi-Wan, an emotional core the series makes great use of. But most of all, just seeing the banter between these two witty characters is a joy to experience. While much more somber than many other entries in the Saga, there is still plenty of the world-hopping action and fun world-building we come to Star Wars to experience. Obi-Wan is a proud edition to the Saga and a must-see for Star Wars fans young and old.

The narrative of the story and the emotion of the characters especially with Ewan McGregor's portrayal of a broken and emotionally flawed Obi Wan Kenobi has made me wanting more. The inquisitors relentless hunt of surviving Jedi and Obi Wan being put in dangerous positions and risking his own exposure to his pursuers draws in from me an emotional connection with the character's which some films and series fail to do. I can't wait to see the final parts of this series Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fine enough, has it's flaws but overall it's great stuff. I'm reviewing this at the point of Episode 3 which improved hugely.

Sure Reva and the rest of the Inquisitors completely suck but they are meant to, they are scrub wannabe Sith who don't deserve the title and thus act accordingly. Plenty of Vader screentime which surprised me only half way into the season. I look forward to the rest of the episodes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So far this is a great series. We get to see a very broken Obi Wan after the events of Revenge of the Sith. Not only is he in hiding but is also trying to come to terms with the “death” of Anakin Skywalker and his failure to save his old apprentice. Quickly he is pushed back into the action to save a young Leia Organa. Upon which he learns about the survival of his former apprentice turned Sith Lord. Darth Vader’s character in this could not be a truer rendition of the Vader we deserve but also the Vader we now have. He is dark, merciless and without question the biggest badass to grace the small screen in a while. Could not rate this series more. 3 episodes in and I am hooked. Every character and every scene is perfectly put together and the actors nail each role. Ewan McGregor is amazing back in his role as Obi Wan. Expand

I'm very interested to see how he reconciles his past and becomes the happier and more hopeful version of the character that was portrayed by Alec Guinness. I've never seen Darth Vader be so brutal as he was in Part III, not even his hallway scene in Rogue One was this scary.

To all the people who say the Vader v Obi-Wan fight was very underwhelming, it was meant to be. This fight was meant to show how much Obi-Wan had weakened over the years and was not meant to be the "rematch of the century" that was promised. Wait until the last episode, then I'm sure we'll get the epic clash we've been expecting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. SPOILER WARNING FOR EPISODE 3.

Episode 1-2 were okay, slow build and Reva was mediocre.
But I don’t think I can put into words how outstanding episode 3 is. Spoiler warning again, my favorite things are listed below.

Kenobi sees Anakin in his Jedi knight robes all PTSD’d out.
Kenobi opens up to leia about his past, he has a brother and remembers his family.
Reva is finally good in this episode, menacing and calculated. Backed by Vader.
Vader voiced by James Earl Jones, absolute legend. Played by Hayden Christensen, absolute legend.
Scene where kenobi takes out the stormtrooper outpost John Wick style.
Stormtrooper gets cut in half.
Quinlin Vos confirmed alive in canon.
Vader’s appearance, OMG. Literally had me all types of anxious, heart pounding. Loved that. Top tier star wars content.
Vader snapping necks.
Vader’s Michael Myers esque combat, slow and menacing. Just walks. Hunting kenobi rather than fighting him.
Kenobi’s lightsaber POV during the fight/chase, swinging it around in the dark aimlessly. Horror movie feel.
Vader dragging kenobi through the flames like a marshmallow that fell of the stick at a bonfire.

I don’t even really care what happens next, this episode alone earns the show the highest rating for me.

A tremendous effort, by an amazing cast. Writing is a little on the dry side, but that's only due to the strict constraints of the time frame to be able to fit within what is already canon so doesn't impact the series negatively in my opinion

It can be a little bit cheesy, but that comes with the territory. Ewan is great in his return and brings excellent gravitas. The special effects are remarkably excellent for a streaming series. It's full of easter eggs that link it to the films and Clone Wars/Rebels. Stepping back and just watching this as a continuation of Obi-Wan's story after the events of Revenge of the Sith, it's really cool how consistent it is with the prior films. This is bolstered by the return of actors for even small parts, like Joel Edgerton as Owen. It's also cool to see some of the repercussions of the clone wars and the fall of the Jedi in live-action. This show definitely occupies a unique place in pantheon, and I'm glad they took a chance on bringing this story to life. I will definitely update my review as the episodes keep coming and adjust accordingly if the quality changes as a whole by the end of the series. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show has been phenomenal! Young Leia has been exactly how I imagined her, Ewan Mcgregor has done a terrific job portraying the bridge from the prequels to the original trilogy, picking up on Alec Guiness' mannerisms and attitude. Vader has been perfectly terrifying, and the way he indifferently just snapped a kids neck was the icing on the cake. Moses Ingram and the actors playing the other Inquisitors have done a great job portraying how the dark side doesn't play well with others and why the rule of two was implemented in the first place for the Sith, a tradition repeatedly broken by both Vader and Sidious have broken on numerous occasions. In terms of negative reviews, outside of the angry mob of people hate bombing this for being “woke” (which now just means a poc or women exist in the story), crying that Disney has an agenda (when really it’s them with the agenda), I see a stark divide between Star Wars Fans who have watched the animated stuff and those who haven’t. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show has all of the elements you hope to find in Star Wars-related content. Something that will keep you suspended on the edge of your seat but with enough nods to the stuff you love to make you smile. The Acting from the cast is perfect with Ewan McGregor leading the charge with another great performance that encapsulates a blend of Alec Guinness and The Prequels with new layers that makes the character feel relatable without losing its familiarity. Vivian Lyra Blair as a young Princess Leia encapsulates the very essence of the late Carrie Fisher from her priceless and sharp wit to her inspirational grace wrapped in a youthful innocence filled with hopefulness. On the antagonistic side, we get a very straight-laced militaristic performance from Moses Ingram as Reva a.k.a The Third Sister which (although people have often criticized this as "wooden") I think offers a lot of potential for development, especially into what is left of the series. As for Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. This alone is a perfect selling point. Although what we've seen by this point (episode 4) is very little. Hayden as Vader is a real scene-stealer whose performance carries a level of fear and suspense that makes Vader who he is.

The directing style and decisions made by Deborah Chow have been fun to watch, from the teaming up of Obi-Wan and Leia to the use of Reva as an aggressor and cunning opposition in this almost cat and mouse chase. Overall I can't wait for the remaining half of this series (and if the rumors are to be believed A prospected second series). Sure the show has its slight imperfections (especially probably due to Covid or the regular mixture of opinions found in making TV or Film.) however it's a perfect show to sit back and immerse yourself into.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall, the series is excellent thus far. Some fans may initially be put off by Obi-Wan's very apparent defeated state-of-mind, but patient fans will be rewarded with the character development that results from it. Obi-Wan's reluctance and downright refusal to help or intervene in situations the Jedi Master audiences know would have previously engaged in only highlights how deeply the character was impacted from the Republic's downfall, the destruction of the Jedi Order, and yes, the loss of Anakin. This starting place fills in the gap of understanding just how much losing Anakin impacted him and how close Obi-Wan felt to Anakin, something the Prequels did not establish well, in my opinion. A minor criticism would be the way in which Obi-Wan learns that his former friend did not die on Mustafar and actually survived and is actively seeking him out lacked gravitas and feels like afterthought. I can only think of the failed opportunity for Obi-Wan to have learned the truth from the actual encounter with Vader, a poetic echo resembling the way Luke learned the truth in Empire Strikes Back. On the other hand, a strength of this series is the relationship that begins to build between Obi-Wan and the other twin, doing justice for the character as well as Padme's legacy. It helps to highlight that both twins would be integral to the eventual downfall of the Empire. Fans can understandably be confused or disappointed as the Obi-Wan we are presented with appears to lack the moral clarity seen in the Prequels or the return-to action call in a New Hope, but I believe that fans will see Obi-Wan regain his mojo and confidence. There is no question that Obi-Wan has, despite his demons, not abandoned the hope for the Jedi. Audiences only have to see how much he watches over Luke to know this to be true. He's defeated, but like good hero stories, even the best have to fall down and get back up again. After all, thanks to Star Wars Rebels, we know that Obi-Wan achieves his return to purpose. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’ve enjoyed the show so far. It’s not without its problems (not a fan of the chase scenes), but I think it’s been well-executed for the most part. Vader has been my favorite part of the series and is more akin to comic and video game Vader. This is one of the first times we see the raw ruthlessness of Vader in live action and I’m all for it. This review could go up or down with future episodes, depending on if/how they address how the third sister knows who Vader is and what happened to the Grand Inquisitor (he is alive and well in the animated series, Rebels).

I’m excited to see where the last few episodes go!

I have no idea why there's an element of people claiming to be star wars fans bombing this, being racist to the actors and generally trying to ruin a good thing. We've been wanting more star wars content for decades, now we finally have some top shelf content and you guys are ruining it for the rest of us. Guess what, if you don't like it, don't watch it!! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While it's too early to tell, I think this series is pretty fun so far!
I can certainly see why many other hardcore fans would be disappointed, and I fully respect their opinions, but personally, I can only agree with a few.

Obi-Wan (McGregor's) performance is always stunning, and seeing him broken after revenge of the sith feels appropiate, not character assasination like many claim. This "lowest point" in his character sets up his line in his fight with maul. "Look what I have risen above"

Child Leia, once again, is underestandable for people to dislike. But for me? I thought it was fun! Of course, I'm as fed up as anyone with every series needing to have the "little kiddie character!!!" but in this case I enjoy the premise. We always see Luke during this time period, never Leia, and as someone who was never too invested in her character during the OT movies, I think seeing this will help! The acting for her is mostly as good as can be expected of a child, although her actions and dialogue do feel a little corny at times, they need to keep it in check.
the Vader scene felt intense, and the action overall is really good! Unlike some ppl say, I like the music! Sure, there's some small nitpicks to have with the flow of the action but so far (episode 3) nothing too deal-breaking. The acting for the grand inquisitor and the other two alien inquisitors is great, better than rebels for sure, and I already liked the Grand Inquisitor from Rebels!

Now, the elephant in the room. Yeah, Reva is a boring and lame villain. I feel like there's more to her we don't know, and dependign on how it's handled it might make her more likeable, but right now she's not scary, not badass, not cool-looking, doesn't have any interesting demeanor, and is just overall absolutely lame as a villain. Reva should've been replaced by the grand inquisitor

3rd Episode Edit: It gets better, Leia is pretty fun and not as annoying as other child sidekicks, there's lots of exciting and tense moments where I was actually tense about the characters and caring about what would happen to them. Reva slowly gets better. While the direction / design for her isn't that good IMO, the acting is good and she slowly becomes less annoying. i still don't like her as a character overall, but she's not really ruining the show for me either as others claim

The series explores how the former Jedi master copes with the aftermath of losing his padawan and best friend. Story is generally very well written and the characters we see are joyful surprises. Ewan Mcgregor reprises his role as Obi Wan with aplomb. Flow of the story is also maintained very well and consider it a deep dive into a universe under Imperial control. Definitely far more enjoyable than the travesties that are SW Ep 7,8 and 9, which should be erased from the memories of mankind. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Highly enjoyable for fans (not so enjoyable for internet trolls). They creative team understand the characters and how they should realistically be at this stage of the saga. Ewan McGregor is nailing his performance so far, as we see the toll that Order 66, his failure with Anakin, and 10 years of monotonous solitude have had on him. Inquisitors and Reva were a bit bland, but they're secondary villains anyway. We'll see if Reva continues to get better, or ends up predictable and lame. Hers is not an amazing performance, but I've enjoyed the character a bit more with each episode. Vader is true to form, and perhaps the best we've seen him. Fun to know it's Hayden. He's brutal and excellent to watch. Some criticize the encounter in episode III, but it's perfect for this moment in the show. It should not be a fair/even fight at this point. It also adds weight to the rest of the Saga and our understanding of these legacy characters. I was at the edge of my seat for the sequence and can't wait for the all-but-inevitable rematch that lies ahead. Lil' Leia is also a treat and behaves her age. Her short chase scene was a bit goofy, but doesn't ruin the show. Worst part is the music, which is just okay/nothing special. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I found the first three episodes quite enjoyable. Getting to know the beloved and new characters along with understanding their mindsets in a time of danger and upheaval. Leia's is an interesting take on a ten-year-old girl in a stressful and traumatizing series of events. Her ability to anticipate the needed stories to get them a ride in the middle of nowhere. Was the stuff of a much more mature person. I found the writing of her dialogue very much in line with that of my nieces and nephews when they were that age. I did find the inquisitors slightly stiff in their portrayal of Sith acolytes. And the arrival of Lord Vader was just wonderful. I really liked how just the thought of Anikin being alive really weighed upon Obi-Wan. Shows the depth of the love he had for him. "The Jedi Code, against it, it is." "Forego all attachment."

The cruelty of Vader in his unyielding efforts to use the pain and suffering of innocents to flush out the hated Jedi. Yes, I Loved it.

Obi Wan, who killed Darth Maul and crippled Vader, is basically a normal person from a decade of skipping Jedi Leg Day, despite presumably hoping to train Luke. Even though he previously crippled Darth Vader in the prequels, Darth Vader beats him like a child in this series. They face off, Kenobe 'nopes' and just runs away like a scared child. There are some giant holes in the plot as well, like when people are fleeing in a one way tunnel and the bad guy discovers the tunnel sometime later and somehow winds up on the other side of it to catch them as they exit. It's not bad as a star wars story, but as of 4 episodes it's weak as a Kenobe story and leaves Kenobe feeling like a secondary character. It's still entertaining though, which is why it's in the green, and its worth trying to see if you'll like it. This thing is in the red only in the sense of how high a bar it has to set. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main focus of the first season is the conflict between Anakin and Obi-Wan, and the final episode brings the whole first season to a brilliant conclusion. Everything else besides this conflict is just "background music". Some episodes may be silly, not logical, full of cringe moments - it does not matter. All that matters is the conflict, the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. And the way the last episode shows the final fight is heartbreaking. In this little scene we see the whole transformation of Anakin to Vader in all its tragic, in all its brutality. This outweighs all the other shortcomings of this season.

Besides that I want to address other topics:

1. Obi-Wan found his old strength and overcame his weakness. He now is even stronger than ever, because he could defeat Vader so very clearly and fundamentally - Vader had no chance and Obi-Wan could have killed him; but he is a Jedi and he walked away, nothing wrong with that. In other words: An older white man found his strength, overcame his weakness and is walking firmly in his future. There is nothing "woke" about this at all!

2. There is a scene, where Reva sees the unconscious Luke - and then sees herself in him. The picture of a white boy changes to the picture of a girl of color. This is also a strong symbol, this is also not "woke", on the contrary: it is inclusive in the best way! And then we see Leia, how she prepares a costume that resembles Obi-Wans costume very strongly. This is also a very nice scene and there is nothing wrong with it: Of course Leia can be another protagonist, why not? We have so much Luke Skywalker in the old movies. And it is also not "woke" that an older white man can be an inspiration for a young girl.

3.And then there is this scene with Vader and Palpatine, where Palpatine urges Vader to overcome his past. This is also a very powerful scene: We see the completion of the transformation from Anakin to Vader - and we see once again that Emperor Palpatine is truly the greatest movie-gaslighter of all times.

4. And finally "Hello there"...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolutely loving the series so far! I feared Disney messing this up, but the portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi in this stage of his life is refreshingly believable. He's now a Jedi past his prime and lacks belief in himself due to what has happened to him and his apprentice. He's a veteran of war, likely suffering PTSD and is world weary. Currently loving the bright eyed and bushy tailed young Leia, who's innocence and naivety about the Galaxy contrasts against Obi-Wan's nervous, suspicious and tired outlook. I'm definitely excited to see where the series goes. I'm hoping other fans realise that this series is not a hark back to the golden age of Obi-Wan in his prime, but a bridge in series showing how Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan turns into Alec Guinness's Expand
