"Jessica Jones" is an undeniable, fantastic series. The acting is top notch, the characters are fascinating, and the directing is phenomenal. I am in love with this show. You must go watch it now! Another Netflix winner!

I feel that she may need to go out and do a little more research on female alcoholics and their mannerisms and speech, and possible follow around a few female body builders maybe even a few biker chicks. On the whole I like her, but there are just a few things about her portrayal that just don't quite hit the mark with me. She wants to be gritty, but its not quite coming through. Expand

Good series, not 'Daredevil', but then again it's not trying to be. Very much a slow burn and character based overall rather than the more fight-scene / CG orientated superhero stories of which there are many. Ritter does a great job of portraying a woman who's basically wrecked her life due to guilt, boozing, pushing everyone away etc. and slowly moving back towards 'normality' David Tennant however, absolutely steals the show, particularly from the mid-season point thereon: achieving one of the best 'villan' performances i've seen since 'The Wire', where you manage simultaneously to hate him and feel sympathy, sometimes within seconds. This would have been a 10 for me, but actually the poor showcasing of powers (Luke / Jessica), and mixed pacing especially early on in the season knocks it down a little. Still solid viewing, and I hope they produce another season with some of the lessons learned i.e. you can take your time to 'build' but you really need to hit your stride by the 3rd/4th episode, and there's no excuse for not even having a single 'super-strength' showcase moment until the last 1/4 of the season.

Krysten Ritter does an excellent job of making us feel Jessica's pain. She's a superhero but is helpless when it comes to Kevin Kilgrave (ie the Purple Man).. David Tennant is at the top of his game in this role. I initially thought Kevin's mind controlling power was lame but quickly changed my mind (no pun intended). Being able to mentally control anyone/everyone may be the scariest power of all.

The setting is gritty. "Jessica Jones" like 'Daredevil" takes place in Hell's Kitchen. The fight scenes are fun. The story line is a bit slow at times but I'm willing to overlook that. The supporting cast is great. Rachael Taylor is a standout as Trish/Patsy Walker who is Jessica's BFF. I hope we see lots more of her in season 2. Also keep an eye out for the Luke Cage (Mike Colter) spinoff soon.

Kudos to Netflix/Marvel for adding another female lead. While SuperGirl and Agent Peggy Carter are cute and perky, Jessica gives us someone we can relate to who just happens to save the world.

I think this is a great show. While binge watching isn't my thing it also doesn't fit the show that well. The action sequences are clearly faked and just not good to watch & the over all feel seems to be uninteresting at beat. Now i know this series wasn't technically a superhero series but superhuman series, some aspects of the Hero story was dull, like jessica jones past hero origins was disappointing even though it got a bit better as the series got better, and another problem was that some mentions of the MCU was shallow and felt the series was trying to avoid the hero stuff which is pointless since the series is based on a comic book and for the season finale the ending was rather anti-climatic and too dark for nothing. One of the highlights of the series was Killgrave(the show's villain) who was creepy, interesting and intimidating making him one of the best villains in Marvel universe and good story-telling with stories of Jessica jones tragic past and the time the series took to explain the villain's consequences was brilliant and even if jessica jones had a dark tone some of the humour in the series was fun.The best episodes are Episode 3,6,8 and 12 and the worst are 13 and episode 4.Overally Jessica Jones was dark, interesting, tense had okay action and a worthy Marvel series. I personally don't feel like I have seen a series or movie that deals with a psychologically difficult drama or a concept as complicated as the series Jessica Jones does. If you are seeking a simple feelgood superhero movie from the Marvel genre of superhero franchises than you need to appreciate that this is no Iron Man/ Captain America. Jessica Jones is the kind of vicious, disturbing, difficult, and psychologically frustrating drama that I have appreciated from the batman series set in the difficult and beautiful Hell's Kitchen that we loved in Daredevil. This is a major step forward for Marvel and a major departure from what i consider to be the relatively easy setting of Daredevil. From the major characters of Jessica Jones and Killgrave, to the minor, Malcolm and Jeri, the series presents complex characters with complex motivations. Each character in the series also undergoes complex character development that engages the audience and makes each character much more human. The complexity of Jessica and Killgrave, as well as the intensity of the scenes between the two (supported by the amazing acting of Krysten Ritter and David Tennant), immediately captured my attention. Jessica and Killgrave show a complexity that is hard to capture within 13 episodes, however, this series has done it perfectly.

The portrayal of Jessica's PTSD and her feelings (mainly of hatred) towards Killgrave was another stunning aspect of the series. Her flashbacks in the first few episodes, as well as the portrayal of her PTSD was executed extremely well, both by Krysten Ritter, the director, and the writers.

Jessica Jones perfects the mix between the genres of 40's detective film noir, a superhero story, a psychological thriller, and an high intensity drama. I hope for further seasons, and applaud the Jessica Jones team for producing an engaging series that captured me from the first few episodes.

Very much like Daredevil, this show has a stacked cast and surprisingly develops a good chunk of it's players whether they're hero, villain, or in between. Jessica Jones presents a show that can be dry and funny as much as it can be dark and twisted, or sexy and steamy. It isn't without flaws, but those seem to be few and far between. The story is good, the acting rarely falters, though when it does it tends to be with the side characters of the cast, the pace is great from beginning to end. I do think the filming of some of the action could have been better, and in the final few episodes there are a few head scratching choices.

The main protagonist isn't just a baddie; he’s extremely understandable — even though he wont surpass the incredible Wilson Fisk-character in DD due to some vague character motivations. JJ is a splendid, somewhat depressing and highly original show. (I never actually read the books, but I have gotten the synopsis.) It might have been too ambitious to include them. They had to do with her past life as a superhero, and her relationships with other superheroes. Maybe, they will touch on that in future episodes. I also thought the action and fight scenes were a little clumsy. Daredevil was probably a little better in that respect. The show did a good job of building suspense. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love superheroes and action flicks, but at the end of the day, we've seen far too many movies and TV series where they rely so heavily on these aspects, and not enough on the story itself, that it ultimately does a disservice to everyone watching. If you don't have a little bit of patience for a story with a slower burn, this might not be the show for you. I hear they made a new Expendables movie you could probably handle, maybe you should check that out instead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think this could have been better than this but there was something just lacking. For instance Jessica Jones acted as if she didn't have powers like it was a normal thing and when it came to fighting, say when she punched someone you couldn't say the person getting punched because the camera would move away and just see the person flying over. Also with that power Jessica Jones, they was a time when they caught Kilgrave and found out that he had a tracking device and Kilgrave's people came to the scene. Jessica Jones couldn't fight them off with that much strength. So I think maybe if some of the things had been done it would have been way better than the rating it has now. Expand

Jessica Jones is no different, will moments that shock you and take dramatic turns in visceral ways. But like all of the Netflix series so far, it has a fatal flaw. Cards had a protagonist more interested in being clever, Narcos has a jarring narrator voice-over, and Daredevil has an impossibly heroic and dreamy lead. Jessica Jones has a lead actor who is trying too hard in every scene, she feels like a stage actor trying out tv for the first time and the result is that her mannerisms are too forced and too over the top. The entire supporting cast plays their part with ease, but it's hard to take Jessica seriously when every line is delivered with the snark of a high-school girl.

That's my beef. But beyond that, the show is good. Like always, Netflix does great work grounding the audience in a life-sized world. The Hollywood studios can keep their special effects and summer blockbusters, because Netflix understands that super-heroes aren't about how many henchmen they dispatch, super-heroes are super for the choices that they make. And the first episode of Jessica Jones thrives on that idea.

I love the story and the vibe of it which flows alongside the movie Sin City and has a very Noir aesthetic which coincides perfectly with the narrations done by Jessica throughout the series. I will now move onto the acting which was Superb. I mean Krysten Ritter as Jessica played a perfect alcoholic/investigator. I even enjoyed Luke Cage played by Mike Colter and the relationship that they form. The rest of the cast did Amazing. I will say though that the character who stole the show for me was Purple Man AKA Killgrave played by David Tennant. He is by far my favorite new villain in the Marvel Universe. I mean he is fiendish, barbarous and Delusional. I loved him and he played his character to perfection. I will now move onto the action which was thoroughly entertaining. I will say it didn't have the action packed scenes of Daredevil but it was a Hell of a lot more psychological which is what gets to you in the end and there are some very bloody scenes that actually surpass DD in many respects. I have never read the comics for Jessica Jones but this show is a show you don't want to miss. I will also say that the sound design and the cinematography were superfluous. I will finish by saying that this initial season was Fantastic and you should watch this show immediately. I promise you will not regret it. Provided they are lucky enough to survive that is. With some better pacing and some shaping up of some awkward elements and Marvel could have had one of their best superhero offerings yet. As it stands what we have is a solid second look into the darker side of the MCU.

What I mean when I say the show has some awkwardness to it, it's just that not everything comes together in a completely flawless way. Stretching the show out for 13, hour long episodes lead to some very slow pacing. You'll still get to see some cool and often dark moments on a semi-regular basis, but there are episodes that can just be dull. There are plenty of times they could have pushed this conflict forward to a more satisfying conclusion then what was offered.

Yet, it's the complexity that kept me watching even when things got dull. Jessica Jones is a hero with a lot of layers. A lot them connected to the villain in some really deranged ways. The show doesn't skip out on mature topics like rape and psychological damage. They, along with the at times bloody violence, are what continue to separate the MCU movies from the shows.

That being said it sometimes goofs up with the "mature" elements. Early on the show tries so hard to show a messed up and more adult side of the MCU by pushing gross sexual fetishes into the light like incest. That's pretty sick, but the way it's handled here makes it all the worse. The show presents them as attempts to be funny. It ends up having the opposite effect. It's a really immature way to present "mature" content.

Yet, as it continues on and finds more of a footing with it's plot the show gets a better grip on what genuine maturity is. It's not just blood, cursing, and violence. It's the nature of the characters.

Even the side-characters have their depth and little layers to peel back. It's just a shame they aren't more interesting. The supporting cast just really isn't that interesting here. Even Jones' sister/best friend who plays a huge role in the show suffers from a case of blandness. It has nothing to do with their actors. The entire cast is fantastic. Yet, the only characters onscreen worth caring about are Luke Cage (I can't wait for his show), Kilgrave (the show's villain), and Jones herself.

There is one pretty big issue with Jones though, and that's Krysten Ritter. Now don't get me wrong I am in now way saying she's a bad actress. The woman is phenomenal. I just don't think she was the right choice for the character. She hardly seems like the hard-drinking chick that you don't want to mess with that the show portrays her character as. She sure does try her hardest though so I have to give her credit. She's definitely on board, but some of these lines just don't feel believable coming from Ritter at all.

To be honest I think the reason she was picked is because of her chemistry with Mike Colter (Luke Cage). The moments she shares with him onscreen are the only moments I was 100% sold on Ritter playing Jones. These do are magic together onscreen and completely sell the romance part of the show. If only, they could sell the fight scenes.

The action is a bit sloppy with the exception of a spectacular fight between Jones and another similarly powered character that I won't spoil here. It's almost like the director(s) couldn't quite figure out how to deliver super strength fueled fights on their budget. It leads to action scenes that are either weak or overly choreographed, giving them a fake look and feel.

Truth be told Jessica Jones has a lot of issues. However the good it does do will keep you watching throughout it's 13 episodes. The pace may drag and it's not always the most flawlessly put together show, but it makes up for it with a fantastic villain that connects to our lead in direct, meaningful, and dark ways. Mix that with the complexity of the character and you have another enjoyable work by Marvel, even if it is among their most flawed.

My total score for the first season is a 7.1/10

The strong push from Marvel into revitalising the practically dead genre of film-noir is taken up again in this show as we follow a private detective with retired super hero with superpowers who's actively avoiding using them. With acting that is superb across the board but with particular attention to David Tennant as the Purple Man, this show keeps everything tight and personal. With themes centred around a lacking person agency and rape, there was a risk that this show would be overly depressing, but it actually maintains a strong wit that while it doesn't always land right, keeps some levity in the show. The atmosphere feels like smoke though and at it's height this show is supremely tense and amazingly uncomfortable in all the right ways. A different approach that Daredevil and perhaps a little less consistent but in every way worthy of standing alongside it, and in some scenes it even surpasses it for shear atmosphere and tone. Thoroughly recommended.

Krysten Ritter is probably Emmy nomination worthy for her performance in this series. She brings an immense amount of depth and the whole show is essentially a metaphor for rape victims.

Jessica Jones is surrounded by a cast of great characters including her best friend Trish who has a lot of her own issues and is a very compelling and likeable character. Her neighbour Malcolm who undergoes a huge transformation over the course of the series and may be my favorite character in the whole show. Then finally you have the classic Marvel character Luke Cage, who becomes an ally of Jones’ despite some effect that she has on his personal life. Mike Colter gets a lot of time to shine as Cage and we will finally get a bigger taste of him when Luke Cage comes to Netflix.
David Tennant makes a huge impact as Killgrave. The main villain who has a history with Jessica. Killgrave is an easy character to hate and Tennant takes control of the audience when he appears. The only issue that I have with Killgrave that his mind control powers made him hard to write and in order to get him and Jessica in a room together they had to make his character a bit more convenient to the plot. There are a few times where the series feels like it is throwing unnesessary characters into the plot in order to fill the 13 episode run time. I feel as though this season would’ve worked even better in 8 episodes instead of trying to drag the story out into 13. Its still a great show though and you don’t have to be a Marvel fan to like it.

Good show but it dragged on a bit the last few episodes. Easily could have cut the season down to 10 or 11 episodes and played out the story just fine.

Great Show. It has a lot of sting going for it, great performances across the board, great writing, great directing surprisingly enough since this is the same person who gave us Twilight. it feels relatable and human inspire of the superhero setting.

Jessica Jones is essential to watch if you have Netflix and if you don't I cant recommend buying it on DVD enough the storyline will keep you gripped and every episode makes you want more. Really really good time. Kristen Ritter is such a babe. More importantly her and Tenant bring serious clout to the cast. Big human emotional element, good stuff. Need to rewatch.

Seriously, this show now is my third best series, I loved it - and congratulations to the Netflix to created two wonderful series. Simply incredible show, I loved the character so much (Jessica Jones) and every other character fit into the story very well, the real story and plot behind the show was simply amazing, I never wanted to stop watching and always spent as long as I could watching every episode until it was done. Brilliant show 10/10 and I would love a second season, where she might be able to help people with special abilities or something, considering she did make a support group for Kilgrave survivors, who knows how far they could go with this story, after all it is Marvel. Jessica Jones (not unexpectedly) has a lot in common with Daredevil, Netflix first Marvel collaboration, with both going down darker routes than the cinematic movies have generally taken. Towards the latter half of the season I felt there were a couple of episodes that went round in circles a little bit, but overall it was very entertaining and Kilgrave (David Tennant) made for a great antagonist. At a push I'd even say I just about preferred it to Daredevil's first season, which itself was very good.

    +Excellent cast
    +Great soundtrack
-David Tennant too recognisable Excellent detective noir storyline intelligently woven into a superhero origin story topped off with an excellent villain. Couple things that upset me was how recognisable David Tennant's face was.... I only wish they had cast an unknown! And the length. It definately felt like 8 good episodes stretched across 13.

The first two to three episodes are interesting, dark, have some excellent use of soundtrack and set up some cool characters, including Jessica Jones, Kilgrave and Malcolm Ducasse who are all fantastic. Those characters or their actors Krysten Ritter, David Tennant and Eka Darville basically carry the show, and their performances are brilliant. Then it's all downhill. We're greeted to Trish Walker and Will Simpson who both suck and their relationship thing which sucked too.

The rest of the season ranges from fantastic to obvious filler, and while it didn't hurt the pacing as bad as it did in Daredevil season 2, it was still frustrating at points and hurt the tension that the show created especially in scenes with Jessica Jones and Kilgrave together.
Somewhere deep there's an excellent show, there's even a Kendrick Lamar reference! But it's brought down by moments or even a full episode of just explaining stuff and some of those "how convenient" moments to simply make the story longer. If Marvel stopped with the 13 episode rule, Jessica Jones could've shined, because it's seriously good every time it actually moves forward, oh and when it doesn't show Will Simpson and Trish Walker.

This has been my favorite show for a while. Although I might be in a minority I liked Jessica Jones more than Season 1 of daredevil. I think the truly standout part of this show is the villain. Easily the best written/acted villain in any Marvel movie/show. There are moments were David Tennant really makes you feel sympathy for the devil.

The writing is remarkable especially the way they approach, depict, and touch on dark subjects like rape, PTSD, emotional and mental trauma, and assault that most shows are to scared to especially Marvel and superhero shows. Very slow but impactful first season. Ptsd is given nuance when a super hero battles with the trauma of an abusive relationship. David Tenant is fantastic and terrifying as the psychopathic Killgrave. It's noir atmosphere hinders some of the pacing but delivers more chills if you're willing to commit.

The first season is the best because it has a very interesting and unique villain played by the extremely talented David Tennant. Excellent story and twists. Season one Jessica Jones is top-notch quality. If it isn't better than Daredevil, it's on par with it.

It took five episodes for me to get interested--three too many, in these days of television glut. And only after the seventh and eighth did the cruel and clever plot twists (which include graphic torture) become truly gripping. In the early episodes, the pacing was logy and the action muddy, with several subplots that itched to be trimmed or recast.

Given the otherworldly circumstances, it all moves along quite logically and at a brisk pace that leaves dawdling for dead. There’s no flabby midsection here, just one major development after another. The fight scenes are well-choreographed and frequent. And the twists are imaginative while also being grounded in the grim realities of this ramped-up universe.

While, at first, the actress may not look like the superhero type, she convincingly gives Jessica a subtle toughness. In a way, the character is the flip side of Supergirl: Jones is a reluctant superhero, a loner who drinks too much and has real human flaws. Yet Ritter gives Jessica a needed likability. The series also boasts a solid supporting cast.
