Arrow (right now, it used to be a good show), Flash, so on should learned how the things are done using Daredevil as example.

It's hard to single out a great performance as I've said everyone's role is important and the cast give there all to show this. The fight sequences are great especially in the end of episode 2 but sometimes appear to be be to dark in terms of lighting. The final third can be slower but none of the episodes feel like fillers. This season so far has proved to be so much better than some of the other super hero shows on air and maybe it's because of the darker and grittier take on the show's concept. Its action scenes are wonderfully choreographed and I think they've done a great job developing the main characters.

An excellent debut season. The story is great and gets better and more compelling as the season goes on. The fighting scenes are raw and well done, the characters are great, and they get better. My only complaint is that the start is a bit slow, but that makes the rest of the season all the more intense and exciting.

Daredevil season 1 was fantastic. Daredevil himself was portrayed well, but the villain stole the show. He saw himself as the hero, and he had more depth than any other MCU villain. While things slowed down in the second half, it had a very satisfying conclusion.

DC comic’s offerings (Arrow, The Flash etc.) are decent at times but I quickly lost interest and Agents of Shield, which I had fairly high hopes for after the success of Marvel’s movies, was simply way too safe and family friendly.

Fortunately, Daredevil is different, and easily betters any other effort in the genre thus far. A large part of it success is down by the creators obvious affection for the source material and, not bound by the constraints of network TV, it is able to be tell a suitably dark and gritty tale. Daredevil also importantly takes the time to develop all the main and supporting characters, something which is particularly important in the case of Fisk (The Kingpin). Part of the credit for the effectiveness of this character has to be given to the superb performance of Vincent D’Onofrio but, by giving him his own motivations, he becomes more than just another ‘bad guy’ and this really adds to the impact of the events that take place.

The only slight negative in this first season was the usual problem of the bad guys not just killing the good guys when they get the chance (Austin Powers mocked this nearly 20 years ago and yet we still see it all the time on TV and in movies!) but I’m certainly very much looking forward to season two.

A much better interpretation of Daredevil than the movie starring Batfleck many years ago, this Netflix original series has so many wonderful moments it more than makes up for the later few episodes and a surprisingly weak portrayal of the Kingpin, Wilson Fisk.
There are numerous great parts to the show, most notably the wonderfully done fight scenes. You can see the influences the directors had in alot of the scenes, including a wonderful tribute to Oldboy in an early episode. That, combined with a great performance by most of the actors in the story, really gives the world alot of the edge that a city like NYC would have after the first Avengers movie. Most things are so good, it's a wonder why some of their ideas, especially for fight scenes, haven't been used before.
However, the main issue is what they did with Wilson Fisk. The Kingpin in the comics is much different from the man in this show. Fisk is an emotional wreck throughout the entire show, a complete shell of what he actually is in the comics, and it hurts his impact on the show. He comes off as too soft and then is forced to use violence to get his way, almost like a small child not getting what he wants. His role in this show was completely two-faced. It would have been much better to show more of his hardcore side and making him a tragic victim to his past and his way of thinking. However, he comes off more as a willing sidekick to some unknown entity who would have been better off being the main villain, constantly being played by his supposed underlings throughout the entire series. He very rarely got the upper hand, even in dealing with them. And when he did, it was usually because he lost his temper and did something rash. Plus the fact that that the last few episodes took a decidedly soap opera turn before the final episode was a huge turn off for me. I could have done without that for sure.
This show is probably the best superhero show to come around in a long time. It's so much fun with everything that it does that it will definitely captivate you, even if you don't really know who Daredevil is. However, they really need to work on their villains for next season. I want to see a villain who is alot more menacing than their portrayal Fisk here. With a competent villain, the quality of this show would be truly epic in scale. Instead, it's only on the "good" level for me.

When Marvel first started making movies, they never dreamed they'd be getting the stars, exposure, or the nearly half a billion dollar box office receipts for every film they release. Perhaps the most overlooked element in Marvel's wave of success is the writers and directors, which is really what has led to the big stars, better films, and ultimately the TV series.

Marvel attempted to introduce Daredevil in 2003, in what amounted to one of the worst superhero movies I've ever seen. The plot was nonexistent, they rushed the characters backstory, and the acting was a joke. They learned from theses mistakes however, and reinvented the character in the Netflix series by the same name.

Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) was blinded in an accident when he was a child, but despite losing his sight, he gained other abilities. His other senses became super strong and he was trained to use them to help defend himself. As a youth, despite his training, Murdock decided to fight injustice in the courts and became a lawyer, eventually starting a firm with him best friend, Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson). Being a lawyer didn't always get Murdock the justice he sought, so he started using his training, and going out at night to fight crime as the devil of Hell's Kitchen, eventually dubbed by the press as Daredevil.

On the surface, people will look at this series and see another superhero show, but when you sit down to watch it, you will realize that the writing makes all the difference. This is one of those shows where the superhero element is an after thought, because everything else is so realistic and believable, that aside from the fight scenes, you forget that you're watching a Marvel superhero show. The criminals developed for this show, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) and The Punisher (Jon Benthal) are as good, if not better, than any villain ever seen in any of the Marvel franchises. Beyond that the show has a lot of legal and courtroom elements to it, a medical angel, family and romance issues, I don't say this often, but this show actually does have a little bit of something thrown in there for absolutely everyone!

Even if you're not into superheroes, even if you can't stand them, there will be at least one element to the Daredevil series that you will enjoy, I guarantee it. As for the fans, I know it's been a while, but no need to fret, Daredevil have been renewed for a third season, and lead actor Charlie Cox has signed on for the eventual collaboration series, that will include all four Netflix-Marvel characters.

The show is incredible and has some great characters but then there are some not so great actors and characters. I really like who they casted as Daredevil and I really like his partner at the firm. He's a good side humor character. The only issues I have with the show is later on in the season there's too much crying and drama which doesn't match up with reality. The girl Paige is more annoying than she is useful. I thought she would be eliminated in the episode she was introduced but she ended up being a regular character and I don't think she's any good. There are inconsistencies with characters in some episodes. Where Foggy was quite funny and laid back, then next episode he's ready to quit on his friends on a whim and very unforgiving and cruel. So the writers should make a game plan next season to keep characters consistent with who they are without swinging their emotions several different directions. There is a news reporter throughout the whole season that is completely useless as well as a Spanish mother that didn't make any sense in the story. So aside from some unlikable characters and awkward mood swings the series is a huge hit. I hope they introduce some more well known villains and keep Daredevil on his toes to fight again at least a few more seasons. Please don't ruin the potential of this show. Expand

If I have a gripe, it would be that there is perhaps too much buildup. The story did drag at times. A bit more action and superhero stuff would have been nice. Also would be nice if they would expand on DD's rogues gallery in season 2 onwards. Season one was very lacking in this regard.

This isn't just a superhero show; it's much more than that, it's a unique crime/thriller show that got much focus on the characters. We don't just see the background of our heroes, we also get to see what drives the "baddies" in Mathews' town. As I said; the plot is very solid and I really love it. The show is very deep and very well made. Just the directing and the action-sequences are incredible. But I miss a more intense version of show. The overall episode isn't that action-packed as I want it to be like, I want more.

The show started pretty well and the first half is really good. But there's too much talking rather than action. Yes drama is a genre of this show and I love the characters, the plot and so on but it's a bit too boring for my taste. The tempo is slow and I didn't enjoy it that much. But it all changed after the fifth episode. The plot became more entertaining and it really escalated. The characters developed and the show totally began to grasp my interest. The ending was really good; full of action and an awesome plot!

This is a really great TV-show, even though there's not that much action as I wanted to see. My overall rating for each episode is ~ 7.3/10, but since I really find this show amazing because of the solid plot and its characters am I giving Daredevil Season 1 a score of 8/10.

I am getting a bit sick of each season of a Marvel show building up a villain's origin to then have them return in full form for the following season. Not to say it's perfect, but it's serviceable and didn't make me cringe (my benchmark).
The thing that really worked for me with Daredevil was the world creation and the acting. Charlie Cox's portrayal is fantastic, I believed every second. I've little time for the mandatory goofy sidekick, but Foggy grew on me and their show down after the 'it's you!' revelation is brilliant, both actors really had me buying into the emotional stakes in what could have been a very heavy handed scene.
The flashbacks were well executed (mostly). Nothing extraneous, just the things we need to know, when we needed to know them. A far cry from Arrows flashbacks with Amell in that ridiculous wig.
Deborah Ann Woll's secretary worked less well. She tries really hard to distance her character from True Blood's Jessica and after a few episodes I did stop wanting her to bare her fangs. But the Karen character is that awful combination of too naive to be true, improbably sure footed in her 'investigation' and like a sledgehammer on the issue of 'right'. I really hate this trope because in any reality except Marvel's, someone so idealistic yet naive would be dead. And without nuance such a character is pretty boring.
But all told, I really enjoyed it, I loved the very small glimpses of the bigger world behind and the mysteries to come, but with the focus square on laying the foundations of the current reality. I can't wait to see where this goes.

There're a lot of flashbacks with a derpy kid Daredevil that sucked but aside from those the show was fun.

I liked it a lot, but there are a lot of things to upgrade to season 2, like Kingpin, he should be more brute, more violent not a fat douche bag in love for Kal-El's mother. The red suit, took a long time to show up, and when it did it wasn't what I was expecting, it's more like an armor than a stealth suit.

No this is nothing like the crappy Ben Affleck movie (which was not even his fault, the director sucked at his job), but a gritty origin story that gives Marvel the long over due Christopher Nolan treatment. Marvel's Daredevil is the superhero show we have always wanted but Network never had the guts to make. A must watch for Marvel fans.

Characters are oftentimes depicted in almost pitch blackness and lit from only tiny spotlights coming from offstage. This is stylistic, but it runs into problems when it comes to the texture of the show. 60% of the cast talks only in clipped.hushed.measured.tones.with.the.same.stacatto.delivery. It goes on for way too long and most of it could have, and should have, been cut. Characters have way too much time for poetic monologues and personal anecdotes that do nothing for the storyline except bore the viewer. Ironically, it's possible that this bothers me more than it should due to the "binge" nature of the way I viewed the show, but isn't that the point of netflix? If the second season does not improve on the pacing and texture of the show, then the score will go down considerably, for me. Expand

But i honestly don't see the reason why people are saying THIS is the best comic book TV show. It really lost it's steam towards the end of the season, Daredevil tries to be too much like Bale's batman, just listen to his voice while he interrogates people. It left a lot of unanswered questions like, what happened to Matt's trainer (that other blind guy)? What happened to Vanessa? What happened to that Chinese lady?(can't remember her name) What happened to Claire? It was just ridiculous how they killed off Fisk's assistant. Also the finale just felt like lazy writing, they won because some dodgy cop who was getting paid by fisk just happened to know the names of all the other people who worked for fisk??

I finished season 2 and I really enjoyed it except for 1 thing... Daredevil was the side show. This season was stolen by Frank Castle (the Punisher). Honestly, by the end of the season I hated Matt Murdock a lot as he has become more mopey and dopey just like his friend dopey or fogy or whatever his name is. I hate both him and Matt and the only reason I would watch a season 3 is if they are again, not the main part of the show. Punisher needs his own series away from these 2 and Jessica Jones. Between Matt, Jessica, Luke and Fogy we have more estrogen than all the women populating the western hemisphere. What a bunch of sissies. Luckily, the Punisher carried this season with exception to the one scene towards the end where he and the Daredevil sort of reconcile which was just poorly acted and not believable.

A good start with some room for improvement. I like the portrayal of Daredevil in this show but I really think that Matts friend and the Kingpen are a weaknesses.

The Kingpen is simply not intimidating nor believable as a character. In fact, his lackey was twice as menacing as he (Fisk) was. The other gang leaders would have eaten Fisk alive and his psychological duality issues were also forced and emotionless. But thankfully, this is a TV series and there are more bad guys than Fisk and his lackey saved the day a few times.

My other issue is with Matts emo friend... he is just unbearably bad to watch. He is not funny in any way and his emotional constipation (yes I am making a Tarzan quote) is beyond immature for anyone over 14 years old. I would prefer he is just cut from the show entirely and certainly, his presence is hurting Matt's character because they are supposed to be intellectually compatible which means that Matt is actually borderline retarded... who else can befriend a child in an adult body? Aside from Fisk and Matts friend (I dont even remember his name), the rest of the crew did an admirable job.

In the 1st season we watch as Daredevil develops his personality (Marvels copy of Batman in many ways), and it is a fun journey. The support cast (outside the two aforementioned duds) do a good job in maintaining the feel of the show (unlike other shows like Flopsh or the Green Eggroll), and except for the few emo episodes were I wanted to kill Matt's friend, it was a fun journey to watch. I will watch season 2.

When everything else in the story and scenes pay attention and work with the fact that he's blind the fight scenes which great seem to completely ignore this. Even with the tricks that they show on how he's able to detect where his opponents are and overall situational awareness, many of the fights go beyond that and are just normal brawls with no accounting for his blindness or powers.

So while the fighting is great, it doesn't pay enough attention to the attributes of the main character.

Charlie is a blind lawyer by day. He has a few sidekicks, also lawyer types but not blind, so they have no powers.

The downsides to the show are Charlie's lawyer-sidekicks. They don't really have anything to offer Charlie as superheroes (they both, sadly, were cursed with 20/20 vision) and mainly seem to be used a light and cheesy counterbalance to Charlie's dark and bloody burden of being Daredevil. The problem is that Charlie isn't that dark. He's always sulking about what he has to do and moaning to acquaintances or priests in confession. Charlie is conflicted, and it's clear that violence is a tool for him and not a guilty pleasure. We get it. WE DON'T NEED CHEESEY SIDEKICK SCENES TOO! SACK THEM! Or badass them up, whatever.

Reverse that for DD, who spends too much time in church and delivering blustery lines that sound like he's in mid-sob on EVERYTHING. They got the non-stereotypical black/white bad/good guys approach right, they just didn't spend enough time on their dominating sides, showing the stark contrasts and dichotomies both represented.

But I'll hang in there for Season 2 if the finale is any indication of the pickup in pace and costumes needed. Character exposition is okay, good even. The age old device of breaking up of the band, only to have it come back together to win the day, is quite possibly one of the worst oldest and most over-used story devices in comics. To see it transverse onto the screen in this was was just lazy. Finally, for the "man without fear", Daredevil/Matt certainly shows a lot of it this season. One positive is that the last episode is everything we wanted from the entire season, unfortunately it was only one of thirteen. Far too little for more than a 6.5.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 1) Too much focus was given to Karen and Foggy. They were kinda boring and didn't deserve that much attention, except only for the link between Karen and Ben Urich, which was done quite well. But for the rest, these characters didn't had much to offer to the overall plot. Also, aside from chapter 1 and 3, the Nelson and Murdock law firm didn't do anything really relevant to the plot. They were most of the time just "thinking" and in the dilemma of "how can law bring down such a poweful man?" (something that didn't even matter in the end, because they only brought Fisk down because an opponent lawyer agreeded to give Foggy lots of Fisk confidential documents). Matt only appeared in court once. His skills as a lawyer could have been better explored.
    2) The Matt's Ras al Ghul-like professor and the red ninja clan were mostly there just to tease people to watch the next season, they were pretty amazing addictions yet their participation in the plot was very small. Also, I found them to be way more interesting than Fisk.
    3) The last episodes had a very poor writing. And by that I generally mean episodes 11, 12 and 13. They had silly deaths, such as Wesley's and Ben Urich's, which didn't made any sense. Also, I thought that a Foggy's death would have been pretty reasonable and useful, yet it didn't happen. These last episodes also felt too unatural and over-tenseful, and that may be due to the fact that the writer wanted to call more attention and make an epic finale where Matt really becomes Daredevil. However, that ending was quite fallacious. It felt like the writer just ignored lots of issues raised by the previous chapters and went to the most predictable ending.
Still, the action wasn't bad and I expected this series to be worse.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Suspended disbelief. The story is bad, fight sequences are bad, acting is bad.

Alot of the fight sequences are abysmal, the first episode started okay coasting into the unknown. Then a boxer cartwheels like a monkey, using drunken fist. The boomerang trajectory ricochet was absolutely blinding.

Moving onto episode 2. Maybe we would have like to see his wounding rather then him turning up in the clan hospital. Breaking the first superhero rule, giving away identity. Must have been bandaid for vigilante recruitment, rather then any morphine eh doc? Although the later scream mask, was so comical. The fire extinguisher dropped from 3 floors up, a headshot doesn't kill any unsuspecting. Neither does being pushed off of 5 stories.

Onto the drunk brawl, faceplam. The dyspraxic use of coordination engaged. Not one of the punches shown had any power behind them, no weight, no style, they wouldn't have made a 5 year old cry. Apart from when looking like a lumberjack, off the camera, not showing the victim engaged, that any punches were connecting with. Don't hurt the stuntman, no, really don't hurt those stuntman. He disarms a shotgun, the knee and headbutt used, what was that? The right hook upon entering the first room. Who the hell steps into a broken door? He has a shotgun although doesn't swing it like a bat. He isn't going to fire that shotgun anyway. This show hasn't decided if he is a killer, or rather not. He toe pokes, it wouldn't score a goal with, so why hasn't he fallen over yet, because he is going to do a later roll for some unknown reason? The biggest laugh was him actually falling over the guy in the doorway upon fight ending. There was a better roundhouse kick somewhere in the fight. The leap off the wall to put the guy in the doorway was without any elbow, cannot imagine anyone becoming unconscious. The were some armpit punches to enemies lying on the ground that also demostrate the lack of jab

He trains on a punch bag. Where did he learn how to roll, or judo? A skipping rope is out of the question, no hand to eye coordination.

In some justification there were some much better cordinated fights scenes throughout the episodes seen, although sometimes often mostly lacking, containing largely those, above properties demonstrated.

The story, dialogue have also been quite bad. The bar scene with trueblood's worm in the tequila, yawn. Amongst the courtroom standup. A blindman covered in facial bruising representing GBH. That will win an acquittal, quite evileye it surely will. The yakuza coke factory the blind leading the blind, so tell me why the last guy who was packaging is winking?

He drops some badguy's at the police station, others he does not, how did the first slaver get away into later episode, he must not have wanted to carry him all the way from the docks.

Quite funny watching these errors when not faster forwarding to find them

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Like the majority of Marvel's work on the big screen, Daredevil is an enjoyable if very overrated piece of work. There is a lot to like about the show, but it suffers from some big gaping problems that fanboys and others have largely overlooked.

Getting right to the point, the show itself, though a creative leap for Marvel, is plagued with vigilante and crime drama cliches. Hell's Kitchen is carved up by factions distinguished by ethnic grouping. The Russians, Chinese, Japanese are present here as they've been in countless other crime stories. The leader of the Russian mob is named Vladimir of all things. Daredevil decked out in his eerie black costume can't help but mimic, perhaps unintentionally, Nolan's popularized Batman demanding perps to reveal "Who are you working for?" "I want a name" "I'll throw you off the roof" etc.

For a show that is nearly thirteen hours long, the first handful of episodes failed to hook me, displaying a very dull and predictable sequence of events. I mainly stayed on to experience the greatness of the show internet pseudo-critics have been screeching about, but alas there was indeed a tiny jewel hidden beneath the stretched out, uninspired dialogue and unimaginative crime fighting.

Wilson Fisk steals the show. His journey throughout the series eclipses much of the obligatory and mundane busy work of the many other characters. His not a one dimensional villain, and his downfall sparked by an interest in a peculiar woman feels like a tragedy in and of itself.

The most contemplative, if rather unacknowledged, aspect of the series was the emphasis on the parallels in the goals and motivations between the titular hero, Mat Murdock, and his kingpin antagonist. Both want to make their city a 'better place', but both employ questionable methodology in the pursuit of that aim.

They are reflections of each other in many ways, though by the end both their identities seem to diverge into definiteness. The moral and philosophical dilemmas both struggle through before arriving to that point was genuinely interesting, though I do not think its responsible for Daredevil's seemingly explosive popularity among the masses.

Aside from this, the exchanges between Fisk and his entourage and Murdock's reunion with past mentor 'Stick' were the most provocative aspects of the show. Madame Gao's poetic words to a troubled Kingpin regarding his uncontrolled ambition are some of the most memorable in a very, very superfluous script.

Nonetheless, I only gave Daredevil a three because it is still a very hollow and boring show that isn't compensated for with its redeeming qualities. The series as creative and ambitious superhero narrative peaked around episode seven. Everything else could be compared to watching dominoes uneventfully and predictably collapsing unto each other to reveal a simple pattern. All the claims that marvel has somehow 'mastered' gritty and mature storytelling are utterly unfounded.

The climactic battle between Fisk and the Devil of hell's kitchen is childishly predictable, no different from the shaky and undecipherable fight sequences that plump up this bloated web-series. Daredevil may be a bloody and visually dark series, but that doesn't mean it is a well executed gritty and mature storytelling.

And perhaps worst of all, is the inconsistency in Marvel's world building. How can Daredevil, who lives in a world were collateral damage is real and heavy and the bad guys are palpably cruel and malicious, exist in the same universe as the campy Avenger's? What is Spider-Man going to do if he crosses paths with Wilson Fisk, crack a joke and hope his popularity keeps him alive?

BORING! This starts of good. So much so it made me go out and buy some Daredevil comics. Four episodes in and it's looking shaky. 7 episodes in I'm bored to tears, but assuming it will pick up by the end - NEWSFLASH it doesn't. Just DULL DULL DULL. Everyone talks about 'that' fight scene in the corridor. Is that the only memorable thing in 10 hours of content? I cant remember because itBORING! This starts of good. And Foggy Nelson and his Missus were just irritating as heck. I was really rooting for them two to get killed off by the end. Expand

I have never met a bunch of whiny, self loathing characters in my life on one tv show. The only ones I can watch are the nurse, reporter, and the lawyer for Fisk. I just can't sit through this show. Foggy and the secretary have got to go, especially Foggy. I never saw so much self-righteous indignation in my life. The shows premise is good but I just can't watch the characters. Thanks! St. Francis

I really tried watching the first episode, i do not get why everyone is giving it all these rave reviews? The show is shot so much in the dark, you might as well be blind to watch it. How about gettting some light on the set.

I have never seen so many unlikable main characters in a show. The writing for it is god-awful and very predictable. I have never rooted for a villain so much to kill the "good" guys and at the same time you know that none of the annoying "good" guys will die no matter how ridiculous the plot is and their circumstances are. Worst acting I have ever seen in a super hero movie too. Expand

Daredevil - Season 3 definitely one of the worst season. There are so many plot holes in the storyline, Terrible direction making it more of a "cheesy season" I laughed when the agent addressed Fisk as " KINGPIN" the direction was sure immature & laughable at that scene! Huge plot mistake !!! He should have just gone after Daredevil. In the latter part of the series, they have shown FISK had arranged Agent Nadeem's sister's health policy to be revoked? Come on its so cheesy & overdone. It was so laughable some of the scenes. The season focused so much on Foggy & Karen with less talking to Daredevil !!! In one of the episodes, Agent Nadeem tells Daredevil " you have lost so much" BIG FLAW as Agent Nadeem does not know what Daredevil has lost ! Very bad direction they were trying to get the audience emotionally inclined to Daredevil's character :-( Bullseye ( Dexter ) scenes are so cheesy specially when he is interacting with Agent Nadeem after he is identified such a joke & overly done Expand

It's rich with character development, don't get me wrong--honestly, there's a point where you almost feel that you understand the supervillain better than the superhero--and offers up a lot of entertainment along the way. It's just not "The Wire."

It's competently assembled but ultimately sort of hollow.

Some of the show’s episode-by-episode plot threads do come across as perfunctory filler. And Daredevil has a tendency to stretch out its conversational scenes to the point of enervation, especially with regard to Fisk’s attempts to romance an art gallery owner (played by Man of Steel’s Ayelet Zurer). However, the show makes up for those missteps with its clear and compelling voice.
