This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Like the majority of Marvel's work on the big screen, Daredevil is an enjoyable if very overrated piece of work. There is a lot to like about the show, but it suffers from some big gaping problems that fanboys and others have largely overlooked.

Getting right to the point, the show itself, though a creative leap for Marvel, is plagued with vigilante and crime drama cliches. Hell's Kitchen is carved up by factions distinguished by ethnic grouping. The Russians, Chinese, Japanese are present here as they've been in countless other crime stories. The leader of the Russian mob is named Vladimir of all things. Daredevil decked out in his eerie black costume can't help but mimic, perhaps unintentionally, Nolan's popularized Batman demanding perps to reveal "Who are you working for?" "I want a name" "I'll throw you off the roof" etc.

For a show that is nearly thirteen hours long, the first handful of episodes failed to hook me, displaying a very dull and predictable sequence of events. I mainly stayed on to experience the greatness of the show internet pseudo-critics have been screeching about, but alas there was indeed a tiny jewel hidden beneath the stretched out, uninspired dialogue and unimaginative crime fighting.

Wilson Fisk steals the show. His journey throughout the series eclipses much of the obligatory and mundane busy work of the many other characters. His not a one dimensional villain, and his downfall sparked by an interest in a peculiar woman feels like a tragedy in and of itself.

The most contemplative, if rather unacknowledged, aspect of the series was the emphasis on the parallels in the goals and motivations between the titular hero, Mat Murdock, and his kingpin antagonist. Both want to make their city a 'better place', but both employ questionable methodology in the pursuit of that aim.

They are reflections of each other in many ways, though by the end both their identities seem to diverge into definiteness. The moral and philosophical dilemmas both struggle through before arriving to that point was genuinely interesting, though I do not think its responsible for Daredevil's seemingly explosive popularity among the masses.

Aside from this, the exchanges between Fisk and his entourage and Murdock's reunion with past mentor 'Stick' were the most provocative aspects of the show. Madame Gao's poetic words to a troubled Kingpin regarding his uncontrolled ambition are some of the most memorable in a very, very superfluous script.

Nonetheless, I only gave Daredevil a three because it is still a very hollow and boring show that isn't compensated for with its redeeming qualities. The series as creative and ambitious superhero narrative peaked around episode seven. Everything else could be compared to watching dominoes uneventfully and predictably collapsing unto each other to reveal a simple pattern. All the claims that marvel has somehow 'mastered' gritty and mature storytelling are utterly unfounded.

The climactic battle between Fisk and the Devil of hell's kitchen is childishly predictable, no different from the shaky and undecipherable fight sequences that plump up this bloated web-series. Daredevil may be a bloody and visually dark series, but that doesn't mean it is a well executed gritty and mature storytelling.

And perhaps worst of all, is the inconsistency in Marvel's world building. How can Daredevil, who lives in a world were collateral damage is real and heavy and the bad guys are palpably cruel and malicious, exist in the same universe as the campy Avenger's? What is Spider-Man going to do if he crosses paths with Wilson Fisk, crack a joke and hope his popularity keeps him alive?

I have never met a bunch of whiny, self loathing characters in my life on one tv show. The only ones I can watch are the nurse, reporter, and the lawyer for Fisk. I just can't sit through this show. Foggy and the secretary have got to go, especially Foggy. I never saw so much self-righteous indignation in my life. The shows premise is good but I just can't watch the characters. Thanks! St. Francis

This show deserve a FULL 8 but the camera shake make me sick (when doing close profile shots or while people are walking). This technique should add realism to the movie/show, instead gives you seasick.

I have never seen so many unlikable main characters in a show. The writing for it is god-awful and very predictable. I have never rooted for a villain so much to kill the "good" guys and at the same time you know that none of the annoying "good" guys will die no matter how ridiculous the plot is and their circumstances are. Worst acting I have ever seen in a super hero movie too. Expand

I really tried watching the first episode, i do not get why everyone is giving it all these rave reviews? The show is shot so much in the dark, you might as well be blind to watch it. How about gettting some light on the set.

BORING! This starts of good. So much so it made me go out and buy some Daredevil comics. Four episodes in and it's looking shaky. 7 episodes in I'm bored to tears, but assuming it will pick up by the end - NEWSFLASH it doesn't. Just DULL DULL DULL. Everyone talks about 'that' fight scene in the corridor. Is that the only memorable thing in 10 hours of content? I cant remember because itBORING! This starts of good. When The Kingpin was introduced I was thinking "now here's a great and unique villain". But by the end he was just a boring as everyone else. And Foggy Nelson and his Missus were just irritating as heck. I was really rooting for them two to get killed off by the end. Expand

Daredevil - Season 3 definitely one of the worst season. There are so many plot holes in the storyline, Terrible direction making it more of a "cheesy season" I laughed when the agent addressed Fisk as " KINGPIN" the direction was sure immature & laughable at that scene! Episode Karen was absolutely **** and totally unnecessary. Bullseye at one point of time is stopped by Karen - FUNNYDaredevil - Season 3 definitely one of the worst season. Huge plot mistake !!! He should have just gone after Daredevil. In the latter part of the series, they have shown FISK had arranged Agent Nadeem's sister's health policy to be revoked? Come on its so cheesy & overdone. It was so laughable some of the scenes. The season focused so much on Foggy & Karen with less talking to Daredevil !!! In one of the episodes, Agent Nadeem tells Daredevil " you have lost so much" BIG FLAW as Agent Nadeem does not know what Daredevil has lost ! Very bad direction they were trying to get the audience emotionally inclined to Daredevil's character :-( Bullseye ( Dexter ) scenes are so cheesy specially when he is interacting with Agent Nadeem after he is identified such a joke & overly done Expand

It's rich with character development, don't get me wrong--honestly, there's a point where you almost feel that you understand the supervillain better than the superhero--and offers up a lot of entertainment along the way. It's just not "The Wire."

It's competently assembled but ultimately sort of hollow.

Some of the show’s episode-by-episode plot threads do come across as perfunctory filler. And Daredevil has a tendency to stretch out its conversational scenes to the point of enervation, especially with regard to Fisk’s attempts to romance an art gallery owner (played by Man of Steel’s Ayelet Zurer). However, the show makes up for those missteps with its clear and compelling voice.
