In short - great for kids around 8-12 years old. Technical quality is great, proper mix of CGI and real props, interesting questions asked. Just keep in mind that it's meant for kids and don't expect deep dark story, blood or X-rated content.

I want to address some of the negative reviews regarding "pc" and "leftist ideology." As a conservative I didn't find an ounce of politics in the show - and zero political correctness. One review said that the men are portrayed as weak - yet the opposite is true. The father is a military veteran and is the strongest character. He fights to protect his family and is willing to sacrifice himself to save them. We all know how the pc crowd believes masculinity is toxic. Especially white masculine men. This is not the case in this show. The father is portrayed positively. They even shown how the fathers role in the family is important.

Another topic coming up in the negative reviews is the wife "emasculating the husband." This is ridiculous. They have disagreements like all couples. If you watch the show long enough you'll see why they are arguing. Eventually they resolve their differences, rekindle their love.

My advice is to ignore the negative reviews written by those sensitive alt-right snowflakes, butthurt because the show has SOME minorities and SOME women in charge. The world is a diverse place and some people need to get over it.

Grading on a curve to balance out some of the ridiculous one to three star reviews.

It's not perfect, but definitely has been worth the time spent watching it. I laughed at one of the top user reviews that complained about them always being in danger. Yes, that is the whole premise of crash landing a family on a hostile planet after their transport to a new world got attacked.

Yes, that is the whole premise of crash landing a family on a hostile planet after their transport to a new world got attacked. They should be in danger all the time - and that's is something they get right. I think some of the family dramatics gets a little overdone - but not to the point where I cringe at it. There are a lot of complaints about Parker Posey's villainous character Dr. Smith. I personally think it's the best written character on the show - she's unpredictable, cunning, conniving, an yet there is a little glimmer of good you want to root for but can't. She's the character metaphor for the planet they are on. Danger! That's what it's all about when your Lost in Space.

There is nothing like this series.
Exelente in all. The filmography was fantastic. Fantastic visual effects too.
The Robot, is it CGI or did they use special effects and is anyone inside it? He was perfect.
I hope it has many seasons, just like the Dr. Who series.
If it's up to me it will.
Ideas are not lacking, may use some things from the old stories of the old series. It would be very interesting to use some aspects.

One thing is very apparent. It looks and feels like a motion picture. The cinematography and score are fantastic! in this era of large wide screen television sets that are High Definition you couldn't ask for more in sight and sound. We are not just talking about 1080 here, but 4K!
I hope we get many stories and seasons than the original series. I'm hooked.

Perfect show to watch as a family!! It feels kinda like the tone of Jurassic Park crossed with The Martian. Parker Posey is weird and hilarious and perfect as Dr. Smith. It's inspiring to see the kid characters being so brave and strong. The music and effects are AMAZING. Feels like a 10 hour movie. Love love loved it, can't wait to watch it through again!

Any time a show has me wanting to see the next season is a good show watched Lost in Space in 1965 and upon watching this one I found myself wanting to throw Dr. Smith out the airlock just like the original. Special effects are excellent. Did have problem with it supposedly getting so cold so fast that it froze the water but not the people exposed to the open air.

Fun, engaging, and exciting. Great spin on a classic concept, with familiar components interacting with new takes. Solid acting, wondrous effects, and a great soundtrack. Family shows apparently are given the side-eye now, but don't be fooled. Well worth the watch!

The way they bring the personalities and essences of the characters, the technology, and the story of the original to today's audience's expectations of that tech AND special effects, is just wonderful. Judy and Maureen have been treated awesomely, empowered. The back stories of the characters add so much depth. The combination of adventure and excitement, emotion and humor make a nice balance in the story telling. I got excited, laughed, and even cried! They are treated this so carefully and so well, it's great story telling. I'm already hoping for a season 2. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The original LIS was one of my favorite shows for years, both in its original run and reruns. It was melodramatic, and later got silly and campy; but the first season was an exciting Sci-Fi adventure show.

Many of the comments and critics panning the show speak to its lucky coincidences, inaccurate science, "dumb" character motivations and actions etc.

But the fact is that these characteristics were part of the original show as well--particularly the lucky coincidences. There's definitely room for improvement with respect to plot and character; but frankly they captured many of the elements that made the original series captivating to me as a child. I enjoyed the developing relationships among the characters, and I thought the family dynamic was well represented and believable. Yes, the science was wrong in many cases (e.g., when trapped in the tar, it would be physically impossible to lift that hatch--in the same way you can't open a car door in a submerged vehicle; the outside pressure would never allow it), and supposed scientific geniuses sometimes aren't very smart (e.g. Dr. Maureen can't figure out how to tell if someone pretending to be a physicist Ph.D is lying; why not ask about Maxwell's equations, or thesis work?), but the action was plentiful and enough new questions and surprises kept coming up to keep it all entertaining.

Maybe that does suggest it's really only suitable for young children; but I found it nostalgic in a way that made me want to stick with it. I'm looking forward to a season 2...hopefully!

The action sequences and special effects blow the competition out of the water as this is feature film quality stuff. Instead of the usual stranded on a desert island cast away scenario, we find the family are part of a large colony headed to Alpha Centuri with a propulsion system just discovered. Part of the discovery is revealed later in the season as is the origin of "robot" who apparently is responsible for much of the "danger" we encounter right from the jump. Hang tight and let the story unfold. This time Dr. Smith,(who isn't who you think she is) is more than a cartoon narcissist , she's a full on sociopath. Bent on getting her own way. this is a thinking, reasoning, plotting villain. Parker posey is a great actress and its takes one of her talent to make you hate a character this much. Dr smith aka Jessica aka June Harris bring out the best and worst of this show at times she is so good that you fall for her lies and her betrayals are fun to watch (they just leave you wondering why you fell for the lie and hating yourself that you fell for it). Toby Stephens and Mina Sundwall are just awesome in this show, the confidence of penny in her father and herself is just epic.

Posey plays the role with a gravity that encourages the show to orbit her, eccentrically, whenever she’s in view. The dynamic exemplifies the awkwardness of this muddled update. Charging in several directions at once, it asks the viewer to imagine efforts to secure a proud future for humankind, but it seems most vital when painting depraved schemes to survive.
