Writers, storytellers need to do much better. If you can forgive the often sloppy storyboard and mechanics sometimes it is good, only sometimes. Note this is a view of the pilot episode (you have to wonder who hands this multimillion budgets out). Again I have to stress the disconnected acting / story board : people running for lives in background whilst featured actors just calmly having a chat. Poor. Expand

I want to address some of the negative reviews regarding "pc" and "leftist ideology." As a conservative I didn't find an ounce of politics in the show - and zero political correctness. One review said that the men are portrayed as weak - yet the opposite is true. The father is a military veteran and is the strongest character. He fights to protect his family and is willing to sacrifice himself to save them. We all know how the pc crowd believes masculinity is toxic. Especially white masculine men. This is not the case in this show. The father is portrayed positively. They even shown how the fathers role in the family is important.

Another topic coming up in the negative reviews is the wife "emasculating the husband." This is ridiculous. They have disagreements like all couples. If you watch the show long enough you'll see why they are arguing. Eventually they resolve their differences, rekindle their love.

My advice is to ignore the negative reviews written by those sensitive alt-right snowflakes, butthurt because the show has SOME minorities and SOME women in charge. The world is a diverse place and some people need to get over it.

It was the excellent production design that won me over... the ship, the vehicles, the uniforms all look really good. The robot is extremly good looking as well. In terms of storytelling and character development, there is still room for improvement. I binged the first 8 episodes within 2 days, the rest follows today...

The main thing with this show and like shows like supergirl, is that they are using the medium of a show we all want to see to send a p.c. message. In this instance, men are still weak, and not even 50% of a reasonable partnership. As always the script is the issue and the actors do what they must.

For a sci-fi show, such as star trek, it was said that the scripts could not be re-used since they concern the values of the time and place and environment. Here we have a soap opera where the sci-fi part is replaceable. Eg: robot could be the recently acquired family pet, the stars have personal issues as per days of our lives, and the action scenes can be replaced if need be with a camper van lost in a national park. Seriously, this is the future? I think the script is a copy of one of many shows from the past 20 years , from one of many previous episodes of a show and then tweaked to suit each episode. When you come home at night and want to escape reality into scifi, you have the same old life’s family problems following along. Thats not sci-fi. Re-use these scripts for another show, with a viking backdrop, or a roman backdrop, or a cold war back drop or a zombie backdrop, because it is not specific to the title of the show.

10 minutes in and almost everything has been incredibly stupid. Stupid ship design, stupid suit design, stupid character decisions. Nothing at all makes any sense. The production quality is good, but everything is just so incredibly stupid and pointless.

And then it just gets worse.

The constant switching of good robot, bad robot was annoying, even though it happened somewhat in the original series. I'm not sure I like where the storyline is going at the end of episode 10...reminds me of Star Trek Voyager...and their robot is currently MIA. Surely they'll have to find a friendly civilization or a pod of friendly robots to help them. In the original Dr. Smith was odd, campy, and self-serving but at least he wasn't inherently insane or evil like the current Parker Posey character. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's hard to rate a show that is half made around children or young adults. Because you know that the acting might not be mature enough. And it's a bit of the case here...The story is kind of straightforward, I mean we all know the basic premise. That said the Doctor Smith is a hit and miss. Very good in the end, really ordinary before that...The actions is somewhat non existent. There are little bits here and there but maybe not enough. I like the tension with the other Jupiter crews. I like the relationships problems in the Robinson couple. I think there was a real tension problem with the main villain, maybe because she was not the real thing. The robot side was really new and I think it should have been more exploited. Way before the last episode...Sadly they missed on that opportunity. Yes, it's a story more related to survival, but the tension was sap away from the fact that you knew the Robinson would always survived anything. That said the role of Don West was absolutely delicious. And Angela wasn't that bad...I think the role of the robot wasn't deep enough. It's lack of proper communication was daunting and made the story difficult to belief. I give the series a 72%. It's a fair beginning worth watching. Hopefully it will get better. Expand

There are certainly flaws with this show, not least that the Robinson children seem to single handedly cause half the problems/deaths in the back half of the season, but everyone's okay with that because they're the show's central characters. But it's easy to forget weaknesses in characters when you've got such a fun show to watch. Molly Parker does a grand job playing the show's lead, and the production team have done an excellent ob creating an immersive environment. There's also an excellent score to back all this up. Set design, effects, and general tone of this series are quite impressive, and ultimately it isn't a bad way to spend a cold weekend in. That said there are many things that stop this from being a truly enjoyable watch. The children at times are engaging, but all too often slip into twee caricatures. Let's skip to the ultimate thing that lets this show down, it's the villain. I recently watched Lemony Snicket, and was delighted with NPHs portrayal of Count Olaf. In lost in space the lack of ability to see Dr Smith as a villain is on the same levels of Count Olaf, but where as in that series it's a wink to the audience and plays on how ridiculous it is that people can't seem to see he's a villain, in this we're meant to believe everyone is brain dead in some capacity. Unfortunately all to often you will be groaning at how oblivious the rest of the crew seem to be to even the basic levels of sense. It's ultimately what tears the series down from an well produced enjoyable sci-fi romp to a fairly average and in some places poor series. Some say the acting is bad but I'm not sure that is really the case, however it's very hard to believe in their portrayals, because it's hard to believe anyone in real life would be this stupid. The best performance is brought about by the Robot, and that should tell you a lot.

My advice to netflix going forward is: 1) Be clear in the promotion what audience you shoot for with your respective shows. 2) Let members of the target demography watch the show and listen to them whether or not you're even in the vicinity of the intended mark.

Over-reliance on flashbacks, unlikable characters, liberally sprinkled PC and leftist ideology here and there, vague to non-existent resemblance with the original show or the movie - all of that would've been bad enough to sink this completely, but none of it holds the candle to the main problem of this remake: everything and everyone is STOOOOOPID.

It's as if every 10 minutes or so there's an explosion of overwhelming and all-consuming idiocy. Not just of any skin-deep kind that can be easily resolved, but one that's fundamental, multidimensional, and dumb to the core. Nearly every single thing that happens, that the characters do or say, is stupid beyond comprehension, so once you get over the shock of how stupid all of it is, you can give at least five reasons off the top of your head for why it's so stupid, yet no of the characters seem to be aware even of at least one of them. Miraculously, however, everything ends up working out in their favor, so after a few dozen times, once you no longer have the strength nor willpower to face-palm at yet another moronic thing the script writers have managed to come up with, you finally say "to hell with it" and walk away to keep your sanity.

In this update, the Robinsons are part of a colony ship on their way to a new solar system because Earth is in a bad way. Stuff happens and they crash on a plant. More stuff happens and they're rescued. Stuff keeps happening and they bump into more survivors. Stuff happens to them too, and because there's more of them the stuff that happens just escalates to another level. That there are more survivors gives the show a chance to breathe and expand the story out from each episode having to neatly tie things up every week. There are flashback sequences that fill in character backgrounds and lay seeds that will be developed in further seasons, it's not all as straight-forward as it seems.

There are enough ideas and things happening to propel things without too much sagging, which is a problem with a lot of series which have a story spread over 10 episodes. The mid-season malaise doesn't seem as deep with LiS and things build towards a season finale that has me wanting more.
