    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm baffled as to who the target audience is for this reboot. My nieces and nephews (ages 4-10) are way more critical thinkers than the majority of the adults and young adults portrayed. Parker Posey appears constantly in shock as to how dumb all of those "specially selected" crew members are. No wonder her character is P-Ohhed. I realize that entertainment media is scrambling to match expectations of the latest round of identity politics on screen but it is absolutely ridiculous how every single male in the show is a wimpy, emasculated, inept, sad sack with the notable exception of the chicken guy. The robot even has had his male identity computer voice, vocabulary and comic relief role stripped out. The chicken guy is the only unapologetic alpha male and it appears that his character has been given the solitary role of comic relief as a punishment for that crime. I guess that what we are to take from that is that unapologetically masculine men are to be relegated to being clowns... oh and single. Some have deduced Black Panther to one phrase,"I hate white people" this show would be,"I hate men"
    I have to agree with all previous comments about the bad writing, gaping plot holes, breathtaking absence of logical thinking and absence of basic laws of physics. Really?? Freezing cold temperatures that instantly freeze a deep well of water and yet they have no helmets or "space hats" on? At some point way into the first season they explain how come there is a strange disparity in technology by divulging that the spaceships are constructed on alien tech but that doesn't explain why they are communicating with C.B. Radios when satellite phones exist today. Lost in space or B.J. and the bear? It seems that the annoying and constant flashbacks are a device to mop up the illogical mess that is constantly created. There is no doubt that this show has been written from the female perspective because of the constant and never ending private one on one meaningful conversations where they wax on at infinitum about ,"their feelings". I should make a count of how many times there are only two actors on screen at a time engaged in deep and meaningless babbling while they are supposed to be in a survival situation.
    Then there is the blatant theft of iconic sci-fi moments such as when they are in the bat cave gathering space poop from blind but somehow not adapted to sonar pterodactyls. You know the scene from Aliens when the beast comes within licking distance of Sigourney weaver but then is drawn away? The most egregious theft from that series is when Maureen is beating up the robot with a heavy equipment robotic arm towards, you guessed it, an open airlock! I was waiting for her to scream at it,"Get away from her you B$%^%*&CH!!" But stopped short of outright plagiarism. My suggestion to whoever is in charge of that show is to fire every single writer on staff and sketch some testes onto the male cast.

    No spoiler here. Nothing to spoil. Within 5 minutes you can already tell that this is one of the worst series or remakes that you have ever seen. Horrible on all fronts but worst of all was the writing which was laughable. Don't waste your time as I did. Geez.

    For the exception of the soundtrack and cgi effects, this is close to being the dumbest and least imaginative adaptation of a television series yet rebooted to the binge screen. The Robinson clan should have gone into therapy, not space. The dialogue is terrible, and the show is too freaking liberal.     I Cannot believe the crew of the Jupiter 2, as survivors, are on their way to a hostile environment without an arsenal of weapons to defend themselves all because Ms. Robinson did not want any onboard the ship. It’s a foregone conclusion where next season is going. Now the robot will have to do all the fighting and create (xerox) weapons convenient to the plot when needed. Ugh! Deus ex machina!!! About the only thing that's presented with any purposeful consequence is the pandering set-up for the second season.

    A few bright sides to this reboot is that the cgi is great, and hearing the John Williams theme after the Jupiter 2 busts free of its icy grave is a plus for the series. I also enjoyed the change of pace at the start of an episode where a collage of photos commercialize the space program: Past, present, and future. Good stuff.

    But watching Lost In Script for a whole hour is not worth the few minutes that I enjoyed. Yes, the robot is amazing for the exception that no one mentions why it speaks AND understands English.

    The crew is bad, really bad and the children cause half the problems. I think mission control forgot to load the Tang. These Robinson's couldn't colonize my backyard. If LIS continues down its backward, non-cerebral, juvenile path (which appears to be its direction), at least feature more action, less wordplay, and less female chest beating. Too much estrogen and not enough testosterone in this Robinson clan. As for Dr. Smith? I have to say it. "The pain. Oh, the pain..." Get rid of her, please! What a disaster! Also, forego the tired "boy and his robot" relationship, a facsimile and trope which is all too familiar. We've all been down that rabbit hole! The whole 10 episodes were like trying to run a marathon under the water. The writers take the whimsy and surrealism of the old tv show and transform it into this muddy, grimy, and droning diversity riddled space opera that completely over thinks the premise. Embarrassing!

    Anyway, if the writers cannot submit intellectual scripts with a persuasive execution for story & words, then may I suggest sticking to an arty production with imaginative eye candy? Above all, THINK. I'm not suggesting LIS resemble 2001: A Space Odyssey, even though the writers ripped off the movie by using an evil AI for taking over the Jupiter (remember HAL the computer?). But the audience doesn't need to be told everything that is already captured on camera.

    Limit the excessive babble and red faced humor lines, such as, Penny's bad acting when she says through her nasal like voice, "Anybody have a mop? I may have barfed a little bit back here.” (Albeit, a little ironic for how I felt about this binge of episodes). The point is the crew just escaped death. A long scan from the camera onto the crew's silent expressions as they look at one another, the sweat of fear on their faces from the nerve wracking, death defying experience, and the unmentionable sigh of relief that they're still alive from the Jupiter's rough landing should be enough.

    Netflix needs to give me 13 reason why I should watch season 2. If I do watch, the writers can beware of my fickle finger of fate on the fast forward button. Unfortunately, this is one expedition that should have been scrubbed long before the final countdown. Hmm... maybe season 2 will be the season where John Robinson finds his balls. As for Mrs. Robinson, she’d be better off doing Benjamin! LOL. ...

The family dinamic is terrible, some of the characters are useless and serve nothing but make the lenght of the episodes longer. But my biggest complaints with this show are the lazy script and the flashbacks. They're absolutely terrible!!! The sloppy dialogue makes every character interaction awkward and the flashbacks are even worse.
    Spoiler: Doctor Smith ( the villain of this show which is a terrible and cliched proffile of a psychopath ) and another guy are trapped on this plannet and a dangerous storm is getting closer to them and they have a flaregun. At the same time the main characters are driving a rover back to their ship. Then they see a flare. They go into that flare's direction and then only doctor smith comes. It's clear that she tricked that other guy and stole his flaregun but no we are shown a flashback to see how she stole his gun..................Why? Who thought this was a good idea? Anyway I was bored to death by lost in space and I am givinh it a 2/10 for decent CGI and a few decent characters. Oh and did I mention that the acting is terrible?    … Expand

    The original LiS was essentially a comedy. This version attempts to take its subject matter seriously, but fails most of the time. Multiple continuity failures, inept writing, and barely passing glances at "science" make LiS 2018 deliver comedy for the wrong reasons. Most of the characters are not credible, with some praise to the efforts of Molly Parker (Maureen Robinson) and TaylorThe original LiS was essentially a comedy.     An additional thought: With the sudden expulsion of the Robinson's little Jupiter into an entirely new realm, please find a way to make Dr. Smith more interesting and less a pain to watch, or please kill her off as soon as possible! This series has great potential with much more skilled writing and significantly better creative thinking. If Season 2 is merely a continuation of the Season 1 disaster, the show will be gone in a couple more episodes.

    Absolutely no effort has been spent to make the "alien planet" not look like Vancouver in the Summer. A little creativity by the set designers (if there are any) and the show runners to make the show minimally interesting would be deeply appreciated.

    Because of my fondness for the original, I will struggle through the entire season with minimal hopes that much better writing, significantly better directing, and passable acting will make the effort minimally entertaining.

    Again, please either make this mess a clear comedic effort, or fire the writers and directors before the series is cancelled.    … Expand

    Deep frozen water, which freezes in seconds AFTER few hours of disturbance from space ship, shards of ice, and of course diving people.

    NETFLIX seems to have too much subscribers. They created this series to solve the problem. I don't have any other explanation. I am sorry but except some CGI, nearly everything else is annoying to watch!

    Dr. Smith was an annoying villain, and I would've enjoyed the show much more without her.
    She can't act, she is like reading script and her facial impressions make me cringe.
    It would be easily 7/10 show without Dr. Smith role.

Playing cards with the family in an emergency situation. A pond of water frezing within seconds after sundown, while everyone is just watching without special protection. Having watched the original series as a kid, the movie as an adult, I was still open to the idea of revisiting this show, for the the movie didn't really have time to flesh out the characters or story line. What I also was willing to look past was a reliance on CGI for flash for that is just how it is today, and the very young ages of the children (and their related skills), because the actors really made the children be a strong component to the story line without dropping it into a kids show.

    All that given, I still had to rank this as a moderate to poor series of shows. The first few episodes were decent. The interaction of the family, dealing with crisis, and even Will's first encounter with Robot was enough to keep me engaged. While there were some "ya gotta be kidding me" moments (water does not freeze that way, how can it be raining and the water freezing at the same time, why the Robot understands people, but can only say 'Danger' and someones name). Where it started to go south was the introduction of Dr. Smith.

    Yes, the original show had a Dr Smith so I guess if you are going to re-boot you need to have that character in play, but where the original Dr. Smith was superficially conniving character with undertones of guilt for his actions and moments of doing good, this current reincarnation of Dr. Smith was confusing and as the shows continued, such a drag on the plot line that I started to skip scenes she was in and tried to just figure out her impact. It was not that she was a bad person, she was an evil person and that character made no sense for that level of evil cannot exist for very long. Her behavior was sociopathic with each decision to do harm getting progressively worse. The writers then make the Robinson's, supposedly very smart and aware people, completely unaware of Dr. Smith's manipulations.

    I even skipped one whole episode simply because it featured the bad Doctor and how she fixes Robot and gets control. I didn't care any more and frankly, Will ordering the Robot off the cliff was not even believable other than to set up Dr Smith's later act.. In one scene she some how figured out how to turn off a perimeter fence to allow a nasty creature into destroy a communication device. Why? No real reason other than to create chaos, but that no one asks the question, how did that happen, who may have done it...nope, the bad Doctor once again gets away with her bad actions.

    But okay, she seems to gain the upper hand against Maureen and the family. she secures her seat on the Jupiter by force, then loses the Robot, is now discovered by the family to be behind all that bad things that happened, and they do what? They lock her in a room...on the ship...Why?

    The actor played her role well in creating a monster and in the world of the Robinson's, there could be no room for such a human for at some point she once again can become a danger to the children and the families survival. I would have been very happy to see John, or Maureen "accidently" space Dr. Smith and let the show writers find a more fitting antagonist. They seemed to have no issue dumping Don West (who i thought was more Doctor like than the Doctor) and I think he would have been the better character to keep.

    I am certainly not waiting on the next episodes to come out, and when they do, if the character of Dr. Smith remains in the same vein, I won't continue to watch the show for that one character ruined it for me.    … Expand

And that charm was real, even if it isn’t exactly “cool”. So why not try having an iteration that fully embraces that? And like the 90s version, that would've worked if the acting, pacing, characters, and etc were any good, but like the 90s one, it isn't. What's worse is that despite the dark and serious tone, its PG-rated and setup as family friendly, which means nothing truly dark, serious, or suspenseful really happens to the any of the characters as it doesn't take any risks to achieve any serious emotional drama and impact other than predictably putting people in danger on purpose by doing dumb things (especially the Hollywood typical annoying kids) for the most predictable, faux, suspense.

    Someone needs to tell these sci-fi film producers that it's okay to relax and be goofy sometimes. There’s a place for that as the Marvel films have shown. Lost In Space was a perfect spot where that could have happened - just have a bit of camp and silliness in it, make it done with a bit of a wink to the audience and you could mix in some more deep stuff. Ash Vs The Evil Dead and Deadpool gets that right.    … Expand

    Parker Posey doing a bad Ally Sheey from Breakfast Club imitation is enough to make me want to punch my screen. Oh and of course we have to make one of the kids African American. Just like every other commercial on TV now, all blended families. Why not have one of every minority group in the family. Robot was pretty cool though. Don't waste your time unless you are a kid

The space ship initially sinks into the ice (then freezes over like an ice cube), and we're told that it's registering -60 degrees outside. But conveniently their faces are not covered over and show no signs of frost, freezing or as would happen in reality, fall to bits. I've given this two episodes and when you sit watching something whilst thinking 'I'm really not sure about this...', Then it's time to switch off and watch something else.… Expand

Oh did I mention that 1 character is injured, Oh I forgot to tell you one character is trapped as well. Oh how bout this killer friendly robot, he helps the characters and the plot. All of those things are done in every episode. Writing this review has my attentionyou can watch the very first episode and realize what the premise of this show is. Oh something bad happened well lets fix it. Oh did I mention that 1 character is injured, Oh I forgot to tell you one character is trapped as well. Oh how bout this killer friendly robot, he helps the characters and the plot. All of those things are done in every episode.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For such a long wait...underwhelming. I guess they felt they had to retrofit each of the original characters (welcome to the politically correct 21st century), save for Penny and Will.
    Prof Robinson becomes Special Ops scapegoat of the family
    Maureen Robinson becomes an AstroPhysicist akin to Steven Hawking
    Judy becomes a black doctor - why not just go with an entire black family?
    Penny retains her playfulness
    Will is science boy
    Major Don West is turned into a campy smuggler (not unlike the weekly villain of the original series)
    Dr. Smith, now a woman, has no panache. That's what we liked about the original
    And the Robot - I just can't.
    The plot is sooo predictable for the series to be so serious. When it was campy, we loved the outrageous twists and rescues. In this new version, when they do have a "surprise" twist like Will's discovery for fuel or Special Ops rescue, the writing falls flat. Too convenient for the serious tone.
    The CGI was on point, although the escape of the Jupiter 2 in Ep 3 reminds me of the movie.
    I guess I was hoping for more, and will be if there is a season 2 the way they are chatting it up. I'll probably watch that too...just wish they'd take more than a few minutes writing each episode.    … Expand

    Ow. I felt physical pain while watching this. Besides the CGI and sets, everything in this show sucks. The acting is lame, the plot is predictable, the characters make stupid choices, etc. And the science makes 0 sense. At one point it's raining, but ice begins freezing? Just don't watch this.

    How the hell does the little crying woos have a telepathic connection to an alien robot that is willing to jump off a cliff for him??

    Even avid sci-fi fans will struggle with this lame remake. Lost in Space is a sandbox for great story telling and adventures but sadly this series is full of lame characters making really stupid decisions. For a family, no one talks to each other! Everyone continually make terrible survival decisions given they are in the wild and the plotlines are simply ridiculous. Too many strugglesEven avid sci-fi fans will struggle with this lame remake. Lost in Space is a sandbox for great story telling and adventures but sadly this series is full of lame characters making really stupid decisions. For a family, no one talks to each other! Everyone continually make terrible survival decisions given they are in the wild and the plotlines are simply ridiculous. Too many struggles that are overcome adding nothing to the overall story line. The saving grace is Dr Smith who is brilliantly cast and acted, and the CGI is excellent. However, these elements are not enough to save this series. Strongly suggest that series 2 is quite literally lost in space as this is a duff series and hard watch.… Expand

    The special effects, and basic plot gave such hope for a good view.. Sadly Mr. Director ruined with irrational soapy and mind numbingly incoherent progression. Yes leave it for the kids.

    If you are an old timer like me, DO NOT expect to watch an updated LIS with better SFX, but a whole different story altogether. If you have seen "The 100" you will recognize the basic story line, and location shots.

    For those of us who watched the original cast [Billy Mumy (Will), Angela Cartwright (Penny), Marta Kristen (Judy), June Lockhart (Maureen), Guy Williams (John), Mark Goddard (Don West), and the fabulous Johnathan Harris (Dr. Zachary Smith)] in real time for three seasons, the only things familiar are the character names, and the title. Changing the origin, voice, purpose and look of the robot, changes the concept of a remake, to a new production that is so-so, and at best a feeble attempt at a remake of "The 100" with a cast of dozens rather than the original eight.
    Many thumbs down for lack of creativity by the writers, and directors.
    Many thumbs up for Molly Parker (House of Cards), Parker Posey (The Good Wife), and Toby Stephens (Black Sails) for trying to pull this disaster out of the wreckage.    … Expand

    The show had a few strong points but in the end, they were not enough to make up for multiple plot holes and obvious lapse in judgment by the cast. I was often left wondering what was this person thinking? Many decisions were made that were not only stupid but completely unrealistic for someone in that particular situation.     This series should be posted in kids section of Netflix. Generally the auditory is about 8-10 years old children or so. Not a bad movies, but wrongly presented by Netflix. If you are looking for another altered carbon, move along and don't waste your time.

    I allways thought that the director and writer would have even little bit professional touch about their work but , seems that the serie was made for stupid people...or the Director and writer have just got a brainfart.    … Expand

    This is so bad. The acting is bad, everything is so predictable. Really bad directing. Do not waste your time watching this cheesy TV Serie. They made so much advertising for this but the result is very poor.

    Dr Smith absolutely ruins this series. The character is so cliché which becomes really annoying. Very unfortunate as the other characters were developed reasonably well. Don West is great.

    I knew I would love this show and sat down to watch as soon as it was released. Unfortunately it was so bad I could not get through the first episode even after repeated attempts. Terrible stupid fake characters and completely unbelievable plot points. Ugh. Major disappointment. Great CGI though . . .

    Posey plays the role with a gravity that encourages the show to orbit her, eccentrically, whenever she’s in view. The dynamic exemplifies the awkwardness of this muddled update. Charging in several directions at once, it asks the viewer to imagine efforts to secure a proud future for humankind, but it seems most vital when painting depraved schemes to survive.

    Oddly enough, it’s the robot who proves most engaging. ... What really makes the robot stand out is its complexity. It’s mysterious, both in its origins, intentions, and inability to over-communicate. The human characters don’t earn the same mystery.

    The thrill of exploration, or the examination of family dynamics, never feels like it arises organically from the action, in the way it might have on the show’s most obvious forebear that isn’t its direct predecessor: Lost.
