Another well rounded win for Phoebe Bridgers. A varied algamation of a spy thriller, drama and comedy. Jodie Cormer is striking killer with a myriad of sublime personalities that pilot this coded love story to fresh territories.

Killing Eve is my favorite new show of 2018, my favorite black comedy show, my 3rd favorite comedy show of all time, one of my top 5 favorite drama shows of all time, and one of my top 10 favorite shows of all time. Jodie Comer (one of the best portrayals of a villains I have ever seen) and Sandra Oh give astounding performances, they give very complex, powerful, and deep performances and they just have outstanding chemistry and play off of each other perfectly and Sandra is funny and Jodie is hilarious in a dark way. Fiona Shaw, Yuli Lagodinsky, Kim Bodnia, Sonia Elliman, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Sean Delaney gave pretty fantastic performances. The writing is phenomenal, Villanelle is one of the best written villains I have ever seen and Villanelle and Eve's odd but so well-written connection and obsession with each other is just superb. The costumes are exceptional especially on Jodie Comer. The makeup and hairstyling is stupendous especially on Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Fiona Shaw. The cinematography is remarkable. The music is terrific. The fight choreography is great especially in the scene between Villanelle and Nadia. This first season was better than I ever expected, it was an A+ Expand

Horrible, evil people discussing cheese puffs - genre: black comedy, dead-pan humor

You are a good person... because you are sad and sad people are usually good because they feel things more.
Villanella reacts in her heavy eastern-European accent: OH GOD... you're one of those profound little kids! I'm not sad... I have a happy face.

Jodie Comer playing psychopath Villanella provides a stunning and superb delivery of the primary protagonist in this dark comedy.
I question my morality when I enjoy this type of entertainment. Nevertheless, this is an excellent series.
Fun to watch - does not have anything significant to say... except, perhaps... watching horrible, evil people do horrible evil things can be fun to watch. Perhaps that is profound.

The thematic humor used over and over is the juxtaposition of the macabre and normal/trite aspects of normal everyday life. It never seems to get old.

The Canadian/Asian/female actress Sandra Oh seems bizarrely cast in her lead role. I kept thinking of dozens of actors and actresses that I would have selected to fill the lead role. And, then it is clear she was brilliantly and perfectly cast to fit within the context of this film series.

I'll rate Killing Eve season one a 7 because it starts off well and our two lead characters, Eve of British intelligence, and Villainelle, the assassin, are convincingly written and rendered. The problem of course is that neither one of them belong in this series. A backroom intelligence analyst shouldn't be running around like a field operative and an assassin who can't obey orders, and who develops a tendency to simply kill anyone who proves irksome, including operatives she's supposed to be working with, would herself be "retired" by any organization with an interest in its own survival.

And this pretty much sums up the problems I have with the series. It keeps doing things that seem implausible. I mean, maybe the FBI really did take a cadet out of training to help investigate a serial killer, but until I see the proof of it in writing I'm not going to believe it. And the same goes for sending a backroom analyst to Moscow and allowing her free rein to "follow her instincts."

I know crazy things happen in real life, and that's why truth is stranger than fiction. For fiction to succeed it absolutely has to make sense. It must be believable, and in the end I just don't believe Killing Eve.. And frankly the worst of it is the final few minutes of the season finale. Oobatz!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I thought this was going to be a good show. Started out good but then got really stupid. Sandra Oh is miscast. They should have gotten somebody younger that had more chemistry with the villain (V) but there really is none. Although V takes a beating from time to time she never seems fazed by it or anything else. She should have some vulnerability even if it is something as silly as her vanity, or her clothes which are super chic so we can see actually really upset. She breaks a poor little boys neck who is horribly disfigured and lost his family after a car accident supposedly doing him a favor because he really didn't want to live anymore. You would think she would show a tear or a slight sadness in her face, but nothing. What really got me is when V goes "undercover" into a Russian prison so she could assassinate another assassin who V tried killing before by running over her with her SUV. So she tries to kill her in the prison kitchen and gets into a scuffle and kills two prison guards then puts her hands up and says "throw me in the hole". O.K. folks, this is a RUSSIAN prison. I doubt the only hole she would be seeing is the one between her eyes right after they take her out to the yard and shoot her immediately. Well they do put her in the hole with a 300 lb. gorilla of a girl and of course V gets the kills her by jumping on her back and biting into her jugular. Really? The gorilla really could have taken V out with sooo much ease. I stopped watching after that episode. The antagonist and protagonists have met up so many times, there really isn't much tension. Why, they even had dinner together and were girling it up in V's bedroom before Oh stabs her. Why did she stab her? Disappointing and ridiculous. Expand

The premise of Killing Eve is great and the execution from the actors is fantastic. Jodie Comer as Villanelle is remarkable. However, the story never really grabbed me and demanded that I paid attention to it. It's still a solid watch, but I do think there was some potential left on the table.

If a character starts tailing a professional assassin who knows she's being trailed there's probably about a 100% chance that character will be killed. In the first half of the season, the characters are complex and the show reveals aspects of their characters thoughtfully to build them up. Unfortunately, in the second half, there is no more revelation to their characters but seemingly just a mishmash of personality traits that provide no new insights but keep you confused. The underlying storyline similarly builds in the first four episodes, revealing the edges of a conspiracy at the highest levels, but then flounders around in the final four leaving me unsatisfied, skeptical, and unexcited. The characters themselves seemed to have been asked to go out of their way multiple times to ensure the supervillainess remains alive by always underestimating her (despite substantial evidence that she's an extremely competent assassin) and ignoring opportunities that would reduce the threat. Sandra Oh is so good in this show she almost convinced me to watch Greys Anatomy. Almost, though, I don’t hate myself enough to catch up on 15 seasons worth of medical soap opera.

Killing Eve is the funniest drama to come about since Breaking Bad.

There's a particular tone to this show, that makes it Playful and not destructive. Coming from the mind of Phoebe Waller Bridge it all makes sense.

The writing is simply amazing, comedy intertwined with gritty drama. Usually the comedy in these types of shows comes across as out of place and silly but never in Killing Eve, the comedy comes at the right times causing the intended effect.

The first four episodes are fabulous. Gritty, intriguing and different. However, from episode five it's all down hill as black comedy and ludicrous writing lead to audience indifference. Performances are good especially Sandra Oh, but the threat of a second series is, on the evidence here, not to be contemplated with any relish. Ultimately less than the sum of its parts.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Long version.

(I managed to get to episode 4) Whilst it started interestingly enough, it very quickly became undone with plot holes, unrealistic scenarios and characters that weren't particularly sincere or believable. For example in what world would a Secret Intelligence Officer get out of a car whilst under pursuit by a known hit women A) without a firearm and B) Just to wave and have a little chat. Also would a Secret Intelligence Officer continue to stay in a house when they are aware a professional assassin with a motive knows their address? I don't think so really. However the most ridiculous thing Ive actually ever seen is when the intelligence officer received an unknown gift, was told it was DNA evidence then took it home and wore it. I mean, imagine that conversation. Have you seen the evidence? Oh yes it hanging in my wardrobe. I mean seriously.
Sorry for the spoilers (as you can tell it actually wound me up). Its a real shame cus the first episode seemed so promising.

The can't be assed to read all that version.

A fundamentally unprepared, ill equipped intelligence officer (No Firearms etc) goes toe to toe with a 'Professional' assassin who quite frankly did everything she could to appear as amateur as possible.

Don't waste your time on this crap. It starts brilliantly but loses steam after the fourth episode, descending into a cartoonish parody of the spy genre. A pity, because the cat-and-mouse game between a super-assassin and a determined spy had all the ingredients of a crackling thriller. Sadly, even a willing suspension of disbelief cannot save this mish mash of a plot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 4 episodes in and wondering when I'm supposed to care about any of it. It doesn't even go for the most perfunctory believability, none of it even remotely makes sense.

Eve is supposed to be this genius, except that nothing she does is particularly genius-like, and each time she's under stress she turns into a gibbering nitwit. These are supposed to be MI5 agents and they talk and act like hysterical idiots. Like probably no spy ever, the Bill character, a 61-year old man, goes after the assassin by himself, unarmed, walking into a crowded dance club hoping to do who knows what and, big surprise, is promptly killed.

And the assassin character is too silly and childish to take seriously for even a single second. This show is billed as a drama when it's actually a cartoon, except without the laughs, an Austin Powers movie has more credibility than this drivel. BO-ring.

Killing Eve, which like Fleabag is mostly set in London, has the same irreverent sense of humor and the same intense exploration of the psychology of its lead characters. Here, those qualities don’t always come together with the conventions of the spy story in perfect harmony. But they do make something new, gratifying, and--in its finest moments--thrilling.
