This writing in this show is dragging it down. Unrealistic, and borderline stupid scenarios that deflate what otherwise is a great premise supported by good actors. I understand trying to be original but not at the cost of incredulous story-telling.

The first few episodes had me hooked. But I found the last three episodes venturing too far into the gratuitous and ridiculous. So the whole thing is just a lesbian love fantasy? Disappointing.

I think the overarching story is a good one but alas is let down by mediocre writing and directing. I think the viewer is introduced to this early in the first episode, 2nd scene I think, where the chinese chick is having a nightmare and screaming her **** off. Have we not moved on from this overly melodramatic, childish nonsense in 2018. A later episode has 3 assassins who turn on each other in just one of the most amateurish, nonsensical, childish scenes I have had the misfortune to witness of late. This scene would pass as slapstick comedy, quite out of place with the genre of most of the episodes, one where you find your eyes rolling up.

I think we also need to consider just how many shows we need pushing the feminine star/hero who just happens to prefer other women to boys. It's a shame, it's an interesting story which just was not translated to screen very well.

In the first half of the season, the characters are complex and the show reveals aspects of their characters thoughtfully to build them up. Unfortunately, in the second half, there is no more revelation to their characters but seemingly just a mishmash of personality traits that provide no new insights but keep you confused. The underlying storyline similarly builds in the first four episodes, revealing the edges of a conspiracy at the highest levels, but then flounders around in the final four leaving me unsatisfied, skeptical, and unexcited. The characters themselves seemed to have been asked to go out of their way multiple times to ensure the supervillainess remains alive by always underestimating her (despite substantial evidence that she's an extremely competent assassin) and ignoring opportunities that would reduce the threat. The first four episodes are fabulous. Gritty, intriguing and different. However, from episode five it's all down hill as black comedy and ludicrous writing lead to audience indifference. Performances are good especially Sandra Oh, but the threat of a second series is, on the evidence here, not to be contemplated with any relish. Ultimately less than the sum of its parts.

the problem of this show is that it doesn't know whether it takes it seriously or not, whether it makes fun of spy tropes or has to resort to the most tired of them.
Otherwise it is fun, but not at all in the same league as Hannibal or any far more intelligent -and dare I say beautiful- shows that some pundit critics compare it to.
It's British in its self-deprecatory tone, but as always

It's British in its self-deprecatory tone, but as always with English snobs, it's just fake-modesty and wants us to believe it is smarter than the plebs....which it is not.

Since when does a trained MI5 agent freak out like a 12 year old at the slightest hint of drama? She is pathetic, frankly. No ability to protect herself and completely lost in the face of any level of conflict. Again, pathetic. And the assassin...seriously? Can anyone possibly suspend disbelief long enough to accept her characterization of a homicidal psychopath? Can anyone possibly suspend disbelief long enough to accept her characterization of a homicidal psychopath? She's more like a bored teenager acting out while the parents are away on vacay. And that 61 year old detective wandering into a crowded nightclub without backup? Of course he's going to freaking die. And the team is just a hodgepodge of characters i don't care about anymore than I care about anyone else. What i do happen to like are the various cities the scenes are shot in and camera work, in general. But the whole thing is like a wanna be Blacklist with a lesbian twist I still don't get. Expand

Killing Eve, which like Fleabag is mostly set in London, has the same irreverent sense of humor and the same intense exploration of the psychology of its lead characters. Here, those qualities don’t always come together with the conventions of the spy story in perfect harmony. But they do make something new, gratifying, and--in its finest moments--thrilling.

The dialogue has some of the snap of Alfred Hitchcock, both main and minor characters (again as in Hitchcock) are well-played and vivid.
