iZombie is a series that shows the zombies in another way. All characters fit throughout the series. The plot involves the viewer. It's a great series for those who like humor, drama, horror and suspense as iZombie addresses all these issues!

Ok. At first I approached this series, a little skeptical of what would be brought to the table.
And to my surprise, the first time I watched it, I really enjoyed it a lot.
It has everything, mystery, humor, secrecy, horror, drama. But everything well done.
It's fresh, and brings a new look at the zombie genre.
Up that this zombie recipe grows up to be a big sucess.

It's a smart show with police drama, comedy, horror and zombies! A unique mix of Veronica Mars, Tru Calling, Pushing Daisies and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Probably it's one of the best pilots of mid-season.

I loved the scene where the two zombies have zombie shop talk time, trying to coordinate how they are going to describe their slightly out of control zombie times ("raging out" vs. "full-on zombie mode") . And where the zombie guy addresses the question new audiences might have of "aren't zombies over now?" directly, in a way that is both chilling and humorous. Though it isn't perfect, there is a lot more material to work with than I thought there would be, and has many of the hallmarks of a Rob Thomas show-- sharp wit, sly cleverness, engaging characters, and interesting storylines. Looking forward to the rest of the season. Expand

I am not a fan of most Zombie shows. This one reminds me of a show like Castle – with a Zombie as the lead. Both I and my girlfriend love the show. It is not too hard to watch – after a hard day at work. We are also enjoying all the side stories. Even the “Brains” are not hard to watch. Fun and easy – I hope it stays around for awhile.

I was expecting a kind of drama but was surprised to find something else ...
iZombie is OK ... it's a combination cop/zombie show ... perhaps a drama/comedy/horror show? ... it has a good mix of humour, mystery and horror with half decent writing and acting that makes for some 'light entertainment' viewing ... that does not take itself too seriously.

Interesting premise; however, cross genre shows frequently start strong, but then lose steam. The creators will need to determine how to balance the detective/crime elements with the coming of age zombie-style show. It will fail utterly if it descends into the horror genre.

Not a terrible s great one either, and definitely overrated here on Metacritic. It tries way to hard to be funny when it isn't, its confusing, and it doesn't give us as much zombie action as it should. There are plenty of comics series that would've been much better to adapt then this.

The iZombie pilot was not the best, it kinda sucked actually but it doesn't matter because the premise is so good that the quick, poorly written introduction to the show cannot sink the whole show.

The pilot was basically a summary, a check list of a few facts about who she was and who she has become. The interesting stuff is coming up later, I hope.

    Pros:
+iZombie is a charming, unique detective procedural show since Pushing Daises. While the case of the week plot device is such a cliched plot device, it had a charm twist to it that makes the show more enjoyable.
+The performance of Rose McIver as Liv Moore is excellent. As her chracter eats brains, she posses not only memories of the victim’s brain but also the victim’s traits and mannerisms. Rose McIver did an excellent job mashing both of personalities of the deceased victim in each episode and her own.
+This show has a lot of likable characters. Ravi is defiently my favorite character.
+As the show is developed by Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas, the show definitely has the Veronica Mars vibe to it with its witty dialogue. It’s a nice piece of nostalgia .

    Neutral:
.It took a while to get used with the show’s weird environment but it grew on me as it had a certain charm to the environement of the show.

    Cons:
-Some of the case of the week plots were really forgettable. At least the main plot arcs of this show’s season is total opposite.

It's not easy writing a dramedy about zombies, especially ones that are surviving in the living world, but they're doing a great job for this show. It's got everything a viewer can watch, even with their kids, well not under 13 that is. Still, I'm enjoying it and can't wait to find out what will happen and if a cure will ever be found for our favorite characters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The show doesn’t suffer in the visuals department. The camera work is solid standard fare for a show of this style, with nothing extraneous or lacking. The special effects support just the right amount of gore here and there, though the brains that she ate looked very much like shrimp or imitation crab meat half the time (when it wasn’t slushy style), particularly in the first half of the season, though it did improve in special effects overall in the later quarter of the season especially.

Liv Moore (Rose McIver) is not a bad character for a lead, though there was nothing that made her stand apart from other heroines in this type of role. She had just the right amount of humour and drama to suite the story, but it was more the situations she was in that made her interesting, not so much the character. Rose McIver played the main character decently well, though nothing really stands out particularly. It was a very safe performance. She was able to inject just the right amount of what was needed for each episode.

Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti (Rahul Kohli) was one of the better supporting characters, with the some of the better humour, one-liners, and personality. As the main character’s boss, yet clearly also the side-kick archetype was a good choice, giving him some authority and an identity outside of the shadow of the main character. His dynamic with Liv and other characters he interacts with is interesting to watch as well. Rahul Kohli played the character well, with great almost tongue in cheek quippish tone, but at the same time able to portray just the right amount of seriousness that’s needed for times when his character has to pull back the main character down to Earth, though in the end his character seemed rather underutilized in the show.

Blaine DeBeers (Davis Anders) as an overarching antagonist was a delight to watch every time he was shown with a definite irreverence for the people and concerns of those around him. You can tell that Davis Anders seemed to be enjoying his role, though he also seemed a bit underutilized in the show.

The rest of the characters were overall too much their character archetypes, or not overly memorable enough to make them mention worthy. With perhaps the occasional recurring bad guy such as the CEO of Max Raver (fictional energy drink company and plot device) Vaughn Du Clark (Steven Weber) who comes across as a very smug laid back apathetic businessman with a bit of promise hinted at here and there, so we will see if he is fleshed out more in season 2.

The story meanwhile has its weak and strong points.

The premise is interesting, working functional zombism into a light-hearted crime show was not a bad idea, and there is potential in seeing where taking on various memories, personalities, and talents of various deceased victim in one person/zombie can take you is engaging. The show does this, but the way they do it is…well, a little to clean, a little too safe. They don’t push the envelope of the potential of where this can take them. It improved in the later quarter as it began tightening up some of its free-floating overarching plot points, and ended well on a good climax (there was actually some decent action in the last episode) but that doesn’t save it from feeling very much like a show targeted at very young teenagers or even mature tweens, the lack of boundary pushing makes it harder to connect with adults.

The show in the end is a fun little watch with a few engaging moments and dry humour here and there, some good characterizations and acting. Not a bad little ganter for a lazy evening on the couch with a bowl of popcorn.
