Cheesy, cliche, and poorly made. Sadly, targeted towards young kids. Really wanted to like this but could not even make it through the season. An insult to the original series.

Being a fan of the first series I was really hoping this one would be good. So far it's been a disappointment. The story line is slow, the cheesy teeny bopper characters are lame, and there's not much depth to the plot. The writers need to go back and watch the first season of heroes to see what made it great.

The first season of Heroes was pretty intense, and was surrounded by mystery. After a few seasons, I couldn't help but wonder why the show continued. The show-runners had big hopes for it because of its big budget, but not even all the CGI and Hayden Panittiere could save it. NOW without Hayden, and without Quinto, we have a boring reboot that starts off as slow as the last season of Heroes.

As a huge fan of the first series (so much so, I followed 4 of the cast around London one weekend to get autographs) I was hopeful that this would return to it's former glory, Especially with the likes of Zachary Levi on board. With his character being the only one with any potential depth, I was only mildly paying attention to the show as it failed to grab me from the off. At the point (MASSIVE SPOILER). that a character transported inside of what is supposed to be a video game, the producers of this show lost me forever. That sequence offended my intelligence as a viewer and my passion as a gamer. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. From the technical end of things, standard fair for the most part in cinematography, nothing that really stands out overall in that quarter, unlike the show’s prelude. The point of contention would have to be the computer animation for Miko in the videogame parts. While they weren’t heinous, with the budget that the production company has to make this show, they were still pretty sub-par and you would think they would fork over money for better CGI for such a big time production, even as a miniseries for television. Miko’s part is supposed to reflect an actual present day videogame, video games now-a-days have way better graphics.

The characters were… a mixed bag to say the least.

Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman reprising his role) and Quintin Frady (Henry Zebrowski) from Dark Matters were the most enjoyable for this premiere, their byplay with one another is fun to watch, and both show a promising character dynamic for future episodes as their motivations become further in sync with one another. The close second was Tommy Clarke (Robbie Kay) who shows some promise as an engaging character once they pull him away from the teenage melodrama. The weak parts would have to be Miko Otomo (Kiki Sukezane) so far; her character is…well, as one dimensional as her videogame persona, and there is no clear way to define her except awkward to watch, though whatever her story is, or is going to be, will hopefully improve her in later episodes.

The story…whoo…now there is another mixed bag.

There is some solid mystery, particularly working off of the prelude Dark Matters that was released prior to the premiere. The looming threat in the horizon is well hinted at, and there are a couple of plot lines that show promising development. Despite all that, this has yet to show the promise that the premiere of the original Heroes possessed. There was also an odd character arc going on with Miko and her fanboy, possible red-shirt hopefully, Ren and the whole videogame father needs rescue subplot going on. Frankly it was like these parts were written by an otaku working out some sort of amateurish fanfiction. It was just plain jarring compared to the rest of the narrative, what there is of one so far.

Overall there is some promising things here, such as the big mystery, some decent visuals here and there, a few good characters, but it has yet to really live up to the hype that this miniseries gained. Further future episode clip reveals hold some promise, something that will hopefully signal a gaining improvement as the show progresses, so we shall see.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Nostalgia effect and nifty gimmicks aside, Reborn is lacking charismatic characters and fascinating sci-fi flair to stand above its current peers, let alone the original series

Regardless of how the series ended, the first season of Heroes was amazing. It's a fascinating watch, capturing the imagination of sci-fi fans and casual viewers alike. Heroes Reborn produces similar effect, there's a brief touch of what once a great series and it plays the superheroes angle just right. However, as much as I want it to be a repeat of glory days, there are a few hindrances that significantly hamper the presentation, be it from technical production or writing.

The first anomaly starts with one of the main plots, involving Luke (Zachary Levi) and Joanne (Judith Shekoni. The two are vigilantes in path of vengeance, they hunt people with powers, casually named Evos. Joanne character is a mess, literally. She's one dimensional on her pursuit, yet almost instantly falters in first sight of problems.

She also seems to lack moral, merely minutes after her moaning scene she immediately opens fire onto some IT guys. Granted, she's in confusing situation, but these people are not evil masterminds, they are just ordinary humans, unarmed and already surrendered. It's not a good way for audience to sympathize with their cause.

The Japanese girl’s part is also low on presentation. Back when Hiro popped up in Times Square, it's nothing short of a blast. Now the young girl must content with terrible video game graphic for her so called power. The shift to this virtual world is jarring, and audience won't be fooled by the fake attempt of fan pleasing. Not to mention this makes her story detached from the rest, and it would've been better if they made a comic style of visual for her rather than cheap 3D.

Tommy (Robbie Kay) has the plot of average superhero origin. This doesn't mean his story is bad. There's a similarity to old Spider-Man here and there, although it can also appear outdated at times. The bullying and affinity to the sweet girl are predictable, although the actor is likeable enough to create the innocent personality.

Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman) as the mainstay from original is better than the rest, he understandably carries a lot of expectation. Most of the mystery or investigation aspect comes from his perspective, and although it's bordering on conspiracy, it works with nostalgia and occasional puzzle.

Heroes Reborn presents many perspectives, it also tries to produce social tension between evos and humans, which is definitely commendable, but there are many aspects that feel outdated. Realistically, it opens up against DC Three (Gotham, Arrow and Flash) and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. While they're not entirely better, but each of them has more recent established fan base and at least an edge on either mystery or visual cinematography.

I'd love to be captivated like nearly a decade ago, and to its credit Heroes Reborn is a decent series, but it's lacking charismatic larger-than-life characters, mysterious twists and the fascinating sci-fi fantasy flair to stand out from the shadow of its predecessor, or even stand above its current peers.

After giving it sufficient time to reach it's stride, the eleventh episode "Send in the clones", hits what surely must be a lowest point. Considering this is the first episode after the winter break, it should have been a high, but the poor writing, directing, acting, sound recording & re-recording in studio to cover it up, all adds up to the end of Heroes: Reborn and Kring.

Considering this is the first episode after the winter break, it should have been a high, but the poor writing, directing, acting, sound recording & re-recording in studio to cover it up, all adds up to the end of Heroes: Reborn and Kring.

There are more inconsistencies and dropped continuity in Heroes: Reborn, within a single season, than just about any other show in history, barring Kripke's trainwreck Revolution. The writing is pure comic book disposable trash, and for a show with super-powers, it is amazingly boring. Not to mention how infuriating it is to see the powers being ignored, or misued more often than not.

Kripke is clearly pandering to the Japanses anime crowd with many of the aspects of Heroes: Reborn, but does it so blantantly, in a laughably illogical manner, that it just obliterates the show's (and his) credibility. Hopefully he has a nice five year vacation on NBC's money, and has a good re-think about this whole TV thing.

Excellent reboot! just enjoy the show. Do not waste your time reading critics. Remember that those who gave a "53" to Heroes Reborn were the same that gave Marvel Agents of Shield a "74" and Under the Dome a "73".

I credit Tim Kring here for redeeming himself in his own mind from the chaotic third act mess the original series got into.

Also of interest is the Supergirl comparison.  The producers speak of trying to emulate the lighter, upbeat Richard Donner/Richard Lester mood of the first two Chris Reeve Supe movies.  The original heroes was a heady mixture of Donner hero-optimism and tragedy as heroes died, killed and/or betrayed their own values and pledges.  Reborn follows up on this theme of the tragic hero, the failed hero, the dying hero and the dead hero even better than the original series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think Kring does have some talent, based on S1 of the original Heroes. I think what he lacks is the political clout or economic spine to stand up to marketing execs and high ranking producers.

S2-S4 of original looked as if the script and character development was swapped and changed without concern for artistic and dramatic considerations. Nielsen figure writing! Heroes reborn is similar and looks like there was a good idea which could only get the money if concessions were made to artistically inept marketing people. It comes across as if for the 12 to 17 age group.

From the original there was some residual affection for the character Mollie, what happens, she kills herself. Oh big drama, Oh lets keep watching. No! Its a pathetic waste of a potentially good character, linking back some of the, (very few) best bits of the last 3 original seasons.

It seems current trend in Super heroes generally is to start killing off Evo in droves.

If you haven't started watching i recommend find another way to spend your hours watching time.

I will stay to the end because of the Man in the Horn Rimmed Glasses and Hiro, and i'm off on the sick and a bit bored.

Like Nathan and the villain Erica kravid. As I went deeper with the show the better the storytelling was it begins to fill up some plot holes and questions that the first episode never did and this feels satisfying and the show began to feel like the Heroes of old.The special effects were amazing for a TV budget and seeing some old faces from the old Heroes series made the show even better although at times it relied heavily on Heroes(2006) too much without focusing on it's current characters which hurt the series at times,as there was this one episode  that tried to be similar to an episode of Heroes and failed.Reborn also had an interesting storyline about time travel which was also exciting and a few surprises character changes for some old characters and the final episode did justice to some characters. The best episodes are, episode7,8 and 13 and the worst episodes are Episode 1,2 and 12.So Heroes Reborn was as revolutionary as Heroes but it was a good show within it's own right with good effects, good storytelling and a satisfying conclusion even with the cliffhanger at the end of the show. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have watched the entire season hoping to find something smart and I found Superman IV the Quest for Peace kind of laziness in terms of writing instead. The flashback to the past could have revealed that the twins holding a taco together at Woodstock leading the taco to fly freezing the solar wave would save the world and somehow it would be much more smarter than coming up with what they went along with. I mean the guy who figures out that he can send radiation beams a few days ago starts flying and bombs the solar flare with full confidence. Heroes Reborn should stop trying to portray a universe and focus on fewer characters with less impressive powers - Heroes first season was good because all the characters were in a realistic environment and they had real people problems and they had a phase of figuring things out. There was mystery because there was something left for imagination - not dozens of people who seem to change powers as it is necessary for the plot for the sake of showing mediocre CGI effects. Frustratingly, from the first episode we are instantly cast back, back, back, into familiar tropes - a muddled plot, poor acting, and a failure to keep proceedings grounded in the gritty realism that the second season haemorrhaged, along with its viewers. And worse was still to come for the rest of the series, if you made it that far, with a consistent stupidness in characterisation that was as insipid as it was terrible. I'm just glad that it's over, but I do wonder why they bothered to further besmirch the brand?
