Only a few days into the game, the strategizing and whispering has already begun. According to Maryelle, the teams are split down the middle; The yellow, green and brown teams against the grey, purple, orange, and red teams.
Meanwhile, the blue team has split too. While Scooter wants to align with the purple and red teams, Christa is going back and forth on her decision.
When the teams meet on the beach to compete in their first competition, they learn the challenge is a Temple Mission, and one team will be leaving the game that evening.
In the mission, "Tower of Power", teams race across the water and beach, collecting large blocks as they go. The first team to cross the finish line with all their blocks stacked in a tower will win the first Temple mission.

When the mission begins, the yellow and brown teams take an early lead, while the orange team is still struggling to stay afloat in the water. Soon, many of the teams are struggling to keep their blocks stacked, and the green team is able to run ahead, making it to the finish line first.
The green team, Mike and Keetin, are given the duty of sending two teams to the temple, but are more surprised they won then anything. Mike tells Keetin they should send two weak teams to the temple, because no matter who comes back, they will not be a threat.
Later that afternoon, the teens meet on the beach, and J.D. asks Mike and Keetin to reveal who they are sending to the temple. Hesitantly, Mike announces the green team is sending the orange team (Michelle and Tyler) and the grey team (Wayne and Maryelle) to the temple. J.D. also tells the teams that the team that leaves will CHOOSE which remaining team they leave their pyramid piece to.

Back at the huts, Michelle tells the cameras she is surprised orange is being sent to temple because she is close to Mike. At the same time, Mike and Keetin reveal they are only sending the orange team to get rid of Tyler, who wants to go home.
Later that night, at the Temple of Fate, J.D. reveals to the orange and grey teams how the Temple of Fate challenge will play out. Three cauldrons stand in front of each team. The cauldrons contain fire, wood, and water. In a similar game to rock /paper/ scissors, the teams choose any element, and must have the winning element (ex: water beats fire) to stay in the game. After two rounds, the orange and grey teams have both won once, and the next round is sure to reveal the losing team. After the two teams choose their elements, it is revealed that the orange team picked water, and the grey team picked fire. The Grey team (Maryelle and Wayne) lose the challenge, and are sent home.
The orange team returns back to the beach, determined to not return to temple for a long time.
