But I'd hate if a TV Series mocked my country/city like that. Expand

This definitely won't be the most intricate show you'll ever watch, but it's an easy and comforting binge that'll make you forget about the global pandemic for the duration of its ten episodes.

This definitely won't be the most intricate show you'll ever watch, but it's an easy and comforting binge that'll make you forget about the global pandemic for the duration of its ten episodes.

There are some issues with the portrayal of Paris being quite stereotypical and the show isn't fully clear on whether this is done intentionally or not. At certain points, the French cast will ridicule Lily Collin's character for being "too American" and "too dramatic", which are the moments when the show really sparkles and shows that it doesn't take itself seriously. At other moments, though, when Emily is hanging out with her American-Parisian friend Mindy, for example, it is not clear on whether Mindy is a character that should be viewed as ignorant as well, which can be a bit confusing.

Don't watch this if you want something with a lot of depth. Watch this when you're in the mood for something fun, something uplifting, which is what it's meant to be and excels at.

It's littered with clichés and infuriating stereotypes, feels stretched a bit and suffers from a jarring transition between "the fish-out-of-water Emily" plot-line and the actual plot; but it has the charm of rom-coms we rarely get to witness in TV shows nowadays that's further bolstered by the radiantly amiable Lily Collins, and it has characters that are very easy to be invested in.It's littered with clichés and infuriating stereotypes, feels stretched a bit and suffers from a jarring transition between "the fish-out-of-water Emily" plot-line and the actual plot; but it has the charm of rom-coms we rarely get to witness in TV shows nowadays that's further bolstered by the radiantly amiable Lily Collins, and it has characters that are very easy to be invested in. Plus, it's addictively bingeable!

Wasn’t sure if I would like this but will give season 2 a go and see if it’s better.

The warm and goofy and topical camaraderie of that show [“Sex and the City”] is nowhere apparent here. Nor are any laughs. There are no actual laugh lines here, just lines that let you know they were supposed to be funny. It is, in essence, a romantic picture postcard comedy show without any comedy (or much romance for that matter).

“Emily in Paris” is like scrolling through Instagram. It’s a great way to waste time looking at pretty pictures with no depth, taken by beautiful people with the ability to do and call it a job. If that’s what you’re looking for, it’ll be for you. If you’re thinking this is the second coming of “Sex and the City,” sorry, no dice.

It’s TV chick lit, a rom-com in a foreign location where nothing bad ever happens and the cute protagonist gets laid a lot on her way to having it all. But the complicating thing about Emily in Paris—the best thing about it really, the thing that turns it from a trifle people enjoy into a curiosity they enjoy insulting—is how brittle its protagonist is.
