I understand why this season is not as beloved as the rest of the show but nevertheless I had a great time watching it.

I've seen a lot of negative reviews for this season Danger Island, but I wouldn't say this was a bad one. I personally don't think there are any bad, or even weak, seasons of Archer. The show ranges from great to just okay, and Danger Island was just okay. More specifically, the first fiveI've seen a lot of negative reviews for this season Danger Island, but I wouldn't say this was a bad one. I personally don't think there are any bad, or even weak, seasons of Archer. The show ranges from great to just okay, and Danger Island was just okay. More specifically, the first five episodes are okay and the last three are great.

This is the second "coma dream" episode where all the characters are reimagined in a new context. Here Archer and company are all set on a 1940's French-occupied tropical island. The new setting idea played very well last season with the delightfully twisty Dream Land. However Danger Island is far more basic. The actual main plot, a search for a hidden idol isn't half bad. (Plus, trust me, you're never going to guess what the idol really is.) However, all the subplots tend to fall flat. It seemed that the writers didn't know how to proceed, especially surprising considering how well-thought out Dream Land was. What hurts the show the most is that the characters are split up. A lot of the show's strength comes from the their dysfunctional but witty back-and-forth dialogue, which just isn't available in the first five episodes. Plus, Pam and Archer spend a little too much time together for their story-line and they fight so much that it gets a little tedious. However, this all changes in the last three episodes. The characters end up all in the same place and the dialogue starts firing on all cylinders again.

Now like I said, the show is okay. The first five episodes aren't a wash. There are good jokes strewn throughout. The decision to make Krieger a talking parrot was a stroke of genius. Also, the island they're on looks great. Definitely the best animated season.

Ultimately, I still think this is worth your time.

P.S. I did really like the finale but prepare for it to end rather abruptly without much wrap-up.… Expand

Still trapped inside the unconscious mind of Sterling Archer season nine finds the cast setting on a 1950’s inspired adventure yarn. Personally I found this to be a more enjoyable season than last year but it still lacks the sharpness the show managed so effortlessly during its peak.

Another throw away season of Archer. Poor use of characters, lack of character development, insultingly weak jokes, and mixed cliches make this unwatchable

Dreamland was a pretty cool diversion, but now that Season 9 is using the same plot twist to justify shifting the setting it unfortunately seems to have jumped the shark, which is a real disappointment to have to say.

The other user reviews here have been pretty spot on so I will try not to replicate their points as best as possible. This season of Archer personifies the phenomenon when actors still have time left on a contract they no longer want. Everyone seems to have phoned it in for this season. Lets face it, when voiced actors get on-screen gigs they eventually spit in the face of that which sustained them and help get them those roles. There are SO many unexplored avenues related to the characters and I can tell Archer is going to end without. Archer and Lana as a married couple living in a house together? Thousands of opportunities for humor there. Krieger embarking on a journey to find the truth about his roots and history, with the gang along to "assist" (Pam and Cheryl as stow-a-ways of course)? Easy one there to crush it with. I mean, these are the same people who did an entire episode with the cast stuck in the elevator and it was hysterical. Have em get stuck on a deserted island, trapped in a bank vault... We dont need setting, we need their interpersonal dynamics.

My only hope is that the constant references by Archer in this season to being "immortal" is Freddy Foreshadowing an awesome season 10 that involves Archer waking up and seeking out Veronica Deane for vengeance with the group in tow and finally getting to hit the house of John Huston with a coconut. And for F--- Sakes, if season 10 is the last, make it an extended one. 160 minutes cant make a season of a show. or just stop calling them seasons and call them movies and make them better.

Yet another "Archer in a coma so this entire thing is a dream" season. There is no real sense of a story early on and by the time things finally pick up, It ends abruptly because it's only 8 episodes long.
