The presence of Lowe and Tyler helps offset the silliness that goes on around them.

Sticks close to the original in tone, but, oooof, it suffers from a clunky introduction. ... The exposition is heavy-handed, the justifications for some plot twists are dubious and the dialogue often laughable. It’s just so on the nose.

This first episode felt like the most in your face checklist I have ever seen,
    Gay couple. Check
    Transgender. Check
White male with anger issues. Check
White female who's a boss. Check
    Mixed race couple. Check
    Muslim saving America. Check
Look, be woke if that's what you want but maybe at least try to be subtle about it. My fiance found it laughable how heavy handed this show was with this woke mentality. Look a show virtue signaling is nothing new. But story and plot first guys. Virtue signal between the lines, at least pretend you have competent writers.
Not that it is relevant we're a mixed race couple I am definitely more conservative than my fiancee, so it's obvious I found this virtue signalling hilarious. But my fiancee is much more left than me and even she found it absolutely over the top laughable in your face virtue checklist.

Storylines are then built around this and the characters are really just stereotypical caricatures. I really wanted to like this show but it's pushing a politically correct agenda at the expense of good stories. Nothing wrong with a diverse cast but it shouldn't be so forced and disingenuous. This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. First off, the sex scenes are way too much for this early in the evening. Don’t care if it’s homo, bi, hetero, or what. It’s too much for a show broadcast during family hours. Stop throwing highly sexualized scenes in our faces. We don’t need it to advance any subplot.

The captain’s obsession with his hair and the look was funny for a while until it wasn’t. Are we doing embedded ads for hair and skin care?

This might turn into a decent show if the writers and producers respect Texas and their traditions rather than make fun of them. The scene with the supposed old lady bigot was the worst in reverse racism.

As with 911, this show is best when the teams are out doing rescues. The garbage behind the scenes personal stories are tedious, predictable, and boring.
