    I have spent almost 5 months watching this and couldn't get it done. If you are a fan of the first season, don't watch it. This show successfully ruins every character that you liked.

    With the first season, I understood the ennui that presided over the plot. But this season is awful. Everyone is in a constant state of depression, someone is crying or yelling every 5-10 minutes. Hate it.

    I don't think anyone should rate this if they have not seen the second season. It was great! .. Until the second season's last episode. Absolutely disgusting and distasteful. Everything you've seen before on tv. Yes, there are raped scenes and they are graphic, but it's something we have seen before. The bathroom scene in the last episode though. That only puts thoughts in kids heads andI don't think anyone should rate this if they have not seen the second season. It was great! .. Until the second season's last episode. Absolutely disgusting and distasteful. Everything you've seen before on tv. Yes, there are raped scenes and they are graphic, but it's something we have seen before. The bathroom scene in the last episode though. That only puts thoughts in kids heads and it's the worst of the worst. I will make sure to go to every site and netflix and rate this show so that people aren't tempted to watch it. Also, you can't justify putting that in there with the excuse of "it's based on true events". Terrible.     Basically, Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why didn't need to exist. The first season was a fairly self contained adaptation of the only source material. With the second season, there is no source to adapt from, and it shows. The writers retroactively add events that are unneeded and mess with the first season's plot. Many plot points built up over the course of season 2 lead nowhere satisfactory,Basically, Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why didn't need to exist. The writers retroactively add events that are unneeded and mess with the first season's plot. Many plot points built up over the course of season 2 lead nowhere satisfactory, including the finale. Largely, the season comes across as an excuse ride the success of the prior season rather than stories that needed to be told.

    It is my truthful recommendation to anyone that enjoyed the first season to leave the series on that high note instead of moving forward with this trash. I regret having watched it.    … Expand

    Season 1 was great and presented a troubling decision in a compelling and unique way. Season 2 fails the first season so badly that it should never have been produced...in many ways Season 2 completely dilutes most of what was great about Season 1.

    Season 2 seems to be more interested in PC damage control, creating gray areas and being edgy than it does at telling a compelling story like the season before it. The entire season just feels like a hamster wheel experience, time passes but you don't feel like you've gone anywhere or done anything of any significance. I kept waiting for something big to happen but it never did and certainly never captured the "what happens next?" aspect that Season 1 did. The major plot lines are incredibly predictable and cliche. It looks as if there could be a setup for a Season 3 which is unfortunate.

    TL;DR They should have kept this to the first season to preserve its magic. Nothing of any real significance happens in 13 hours and any small bits that do happen are massively predictable. This season ruined what should have been a classic.    … Expand

    sure as hell not a 0, but the show insistently tries to ruin good memories from season one, furthermore a new season was always unnecessary because of that great ending of last season. BTW one of the dumbest things in this season is Clay seeing Hannah in his head !

    this season really crossed the line! suicides, gun shootings, far too cruel bullying and legal help gets you nothing at all !?     This shows first season was great it ended with closure and it was awesome until it wasn't, it should've been left at that, the second season did not match the ending of the first one. Alex didn't die?? I just hated everything, and now this season was left with no closure what so ever, meaning they're probably coming back with season 3.... oh god no!

    This show got interesting

    Overall was a very gripping story, you got too learn about court cases and how they worked. Has a few new story's from Hannah which nobody expected. Whether people think it was pushed in or not that's just an opinion I enjoyed it.

    Overall I'd say it wasn't as good as the first season but is still an amazing season and I cannot wait for the 3rd.

    Hannah Baker's suicide note-tapes plagued last season with slow-paced insights into the characters to whom they were addressed. In season 2, these tapes are replaced with courtroom testimonies that do the same thing: they focus on a different character each episode and ask how that character is to blame for another teenager's suicide. The problem with that is that the characters stay shallow and the themes that are attached to them are quickly forgotten when the show moves on to someone else the next episode. You simply can't deal with the complex topics of sexuality, mental illness, self-harm, bullying and sexual violence in one show. These things need to be handled carefully and deliberately, especially when the themes are as heavy as suicide or rape and you know most of your viewers will be teenagers who are heavily influenced by what they see online.

    Let's ignore the mishandling of all these issues for a second and focus on the show's storytelling. In a teen drama like this, the show has to be fueled by, of course, drama. And most drama is centered around dialogue and, in the case of this show, a lot of monologues. These are linked to the trial that ties the episodes and characters, and therefore the whole season, together. And it is absolutely awful. The trial is a parade of slut shaming and victim blaming and an absolutely dreadfully executed courtroom drama that just drags on and spawns the flashbacks that provide the events and action of the show. The monologues are a combination of oddly wise statements that no teenager without a script could come up with, forcing one to think that maybe these are all just twenty-something year olds with an odd amount of muscle mass and tattoos and badly written scripts. The dialogue is even worse, drifting between forced, unfunny wit in lighter moments and pretentious, unrealistic rambling in others. People just don't speak that way. The same could be said for Tarantino's mix between dialogue and monologue, but Tarantino's work is fun. This is not. The most dreadful part of all this is having to sit through the Blame Game that is 13 Reasons Why, where you have to sit through thirteen hours of people blaming each other for the death of a girl who committed suicide.

    No one is to blame for suicide. A murder has murderers, a suicide doesn't. No exceptions. There is no one to blame for something that horrible; not the person who committed suicide, not anyone around them. But this is season 2. Season 1 was the same and a lot of people called Netflix out on that, from. What did Netflix do with all that feedback, both from people who experience mental health issues and those who are experts on them?

    The only change Netflix made was a tiny announcement stuck to the start of every episode that this is a show that might shock some people, providing a link to a website that both gives visitors some numbers for suicide prevention hotlines all over the globe. They deserve some credit for that, but no more. Minimal effort.

    In the first season, despite the presense of the most extreme consequence of mental illness, mental illness itself was entirely absent. The real murderer of Hannah Baker, depression, wasn't acknowledged in season 1, and it still isn't now. There is, however, a character who suffers from bipolar disorder. There is one scene in one episode that deals with this, but I'll take what I can get. Sadly, the depression-part of the disorder isn't acknowleged and the mania is explained as trying to jerk your boyfriend off in front of his parents. That is all the representation the mentally ill get in a show about suicide that, otherwise, does representation and diversity quiet well. There's at least one of all the races, sexes and orientations that get some quality screen time. Of course, trans people, big people and the mentally ill don't exist.

    There is one main character who experiences mentall illness and that is the show's main character Clay, who sees Hannah as a hallucination. Now, a hallucination that isn't drug-induced is simply a psychosis. Psychoses are most often experienced as a part of bipolar disorder or schizophrenia but can also be a result of postpartum depression or depression. This psychosis isn't a psychosis in the show, it's simply a story device that perfectly represents the insult that is 13 Reasons Why.    … Expand

Its a season less interested in giving you happy endings, but rather mirroring horrific world life events. It wont be for everyone, and the final episode's graphic nature will turn most off. So just recently finished this new, perhaps unnecessary season of 13 reasons why, let's start by the pros, the soundtrack remains awesome and each music selected fits with each scene nicely just like in the first season, especially at the ending of episode 9, also Clay although a few problems showed up to his character in this season, it's now less disturbed and faint in contrast to the first season where people played with him almost all the time.
    However the cons is the thing really smashing this season quite a bit, there are considerable plot holes from start to finish, characters who appear for a few secs and only show up again far later, or not even that some disappear completely, certain characters taking questionable and plain dumb decisions that feels completely off compared to the first season and how they behave and most of them are just plain depressive
    Also compared to the first season, this one tries to go the darker, violent way in many moments,clay constantly seeing hanna in his head as if this was fight club, now going back to the darker/violent moments, this applies especially to the final episode with the now infamous bathroom scene that perhaps was something forced in and completely unasked, as if the writers are trying to turn this into a way too violent teen series
    Despite all this, the biggest flaw is how the Hannah character got mostly butchered, the first season portrays her as this vulnerable, shy and sometimes just plain weak teenager girl constantly target of other people, but at the same time kind, friendly and very loyal(jessica was a good example when it came to loyalty) who end up leaving these tapes to make people self consciousness of their acts that lead her to the unfortunate act of suicide
    Now in this season this was almost all thrown away, hannah looks like a slut most of the time, FAR too forgiven also a problem that clay ended it up having in this season, she doesn't appear to like clay that much in contrast to the first, often shoving herself into weird ass relationships(cof cof dampsey) and giving her dumb and laughable dialogue lines unfit for the character that was built in the first season.
    One last point i wish to write are the new "tapes", basically split between polaroids and testimonies, the polaroids idea is quite interesting, especially if you are a fan of life strange it may give the feeling they were inspired by it and they have a rather important role,the testimonies however aren't that good, most of them is where the plot holes come in and messes with the plot of the first season.

    My final thoughts are, this season is truly unnecessary as most people say it, it doesn't have a source material which is likely the reason many mistakes were made it by the writers trying to making this into another exaggerated dark teen drama, hannah character was mostly butchered/damaged, clay now has a bigger motivation in contrast to the first season but at the same time is way too forgiven to other characters such as justin, zach, jessica etc    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My only criticism of season 2 is that I did not like the Bakers vs. school trial plot device. I doubt a real court would have let the attorneys abduct the trial to investigate on the Bryce Walker rape allegations but hey, this is tv!

    What was good particularly about season 2 was that the story was not very black and white. The Hannah Baker suicide was shown as what it was - a desperate but pointless and rather selfish act that nothing good really came out of. The same applies to the rape charges sub plot. Bryce's sentence seems realistic - that's the sentence you would get for a rape like that.

    I think some of the bad reviews are based on moral indignation rather than the actual merits of the show.    … Expand

I get how some people were offended by the first season, but I bet half of these people who have given negative reviews for this season have either not seen this season at all, or don't see past all the controversy for them to formulate their own opinions.     Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why takes a dive in quality from the show’s first which, for all of its flaws, remains a moving tragedy and a potent conversation starter. ... Season 2 employs Polaroid pictures as the breadcrumbs propelling along its feeble mystery. Along the way it also leads us through Jessica’s journey as an assault survivor, indubitably the season’s strongest storyline.
