If you’re willing to put up with its flaws, there are things to like about The Library of Babel. The story is interesting, the world is fascinating to immerse yourself in, and the puzzles are pretty solid. But it can’t be ignored that a significant part of the game is its stealth platforming, and it’s the one aspect of the game that really leaves something to be desired. It makes demands of the player that its mechanics are ill-equipped to live up to, and it makes me wish it would have just stuck to what it did well.

The biggest problem with A Musical Story comes in its gameplay mechanics, though. You play the tunes in sliced out sections, and you have to hit every note perfectly before the game will let you move on. And unless you’re really good with audio cues, you’re going to fail a lot. The worst thing is that once you’ve missed a note, you know you can’t succeed but you still have to finish out the slice anyway. It’s aggravating in the worst way. You never get that feeling of being one with the music that you get with better rhythm games. Great music, an uneven story, and unpleasant gameplay make for a very rocky road trip indeed.

If your love for NEC and Hudson’s plucky platform burns equally bright, you’ll probably get a kick out of FX Unit Yuki. Sure, the dialogue is terrible, the level layouts are bland, the controls are often awkward, and the shooting levels are genuinely bad, but it’s still kind of worth the trip to see all the parodies and homages. On the other hand, if you don’t have any warm fuzzies for that system and its library, I’m not sure it’s worth putting up with FX Unit Yuki‘s more annoying aspects. The presentation is nice, but everything else falls just short of the bar.

Berzerk: Recharged is an interesting twin-stick shooter that might not feel much like the Stern classic, but has a lot of appeal of its own. Unfortunately, given the bizarre lengthy lock-ups that happen randomly during gameplay, I can’t really give it a very strong recommendation. I also think it missed a trick by not trying to be more faithful to the source material, but it’s the buggy nature of the game that really drags it down.

Cannon Dancer is a fun action game for the short time it lasts, offering the extra dose of Strider thrills that you may have never known existed. It’s great to see it available on home consoles at long last. The problem is that it’s priced like a celebration, but the bare bones way it’s presented feels like anything but. With the same old Ratalaika emulation front-end and no extra materials or even any context for the game, it feels like the publisher has thrown a decent burger patty between two slices of Wonderbread and is charging the price of a steak. Really hard to recommend to any but the dedicated fans.

If you're a Peggle fan who's completely exhausted the game, by all means, give it a go, you've got nothing to lose, but otherwise, there's really no reason you shouldn't be playing Peggle instead of this.

Dead Dragons isn't a terrible game, and it has a few interesting ideas to hang its hat on, but it's really hard to recommend the game to anyone but the hungriest of JRPG fans.

It’s a pity – Gravity Duck has such style, and the four-way-gravity gameplay holds a lot of potential for puzzle-solving. Unfortunately, unlocking unchallenging levels never feels like much of an accomplishment, and difficulty levels remain ho-hum throughout the entire game.

You'll have a great time with Moscow Dash on your first playthrough. Unfortunately, apart from cleaning up Game Center achievements, there isn't really a lot of incentive to replay the game once you've finished it, apart from the actual joy of playing.

Despite the game's many flaws, it's still Ghosts 'n Goblins, and I doubt I'm alone in enjoying this game just because of that.

NBA 2K14 is a decent game and if it wasn't for the prequel, I'd more than likely suggest snapping it up. As it stands, however, I seriously recommend purchasing NBA 2K13 instead - It's the same price and the commentary and up-to-speed court announcer make it worth the investment.

I find the original board game a bit shallow and this video game version is no different, but it’s a decent enough game to play with younger kids.

As such, I think it's worth giving it a shot, especially if you're fond of Tetris on the Game Boy from more than two decades ago and want to see how you deal when the ingrained Tetris formula is turned on its ear.

Apart from its attractive presentation, Super Nanaru is a bit plain as a game. That’s especially the case for those of us who have been playing mobile games for a long time. The large sprite makes the platforming a little awkward at times, and the game’s penchant for dirty tricks is something you’ll either love or hate. Infinite lives and generous checkpointing means even the toughest stages are surmountable, but that doesn’t make it any more tolerable when, say, a bus drives in front of the platforms you’re hopping across and completely obscures them. I can’t say it doesn’t have its charms, but it ultimately didn’t do a lot for me.

If you must have it portable, it's not the worst choice But if you just love the game, there are fine versions of it on XBLA and PSN that are simply easier to maneuver.

A short but entirely enjoyable little top-down action game. The largely timing-based puzzles aren't too mentally taxing and keep the core of the gameplay at a fairly fast pace.

In summary, Colin McRae Rally is a good game but with the series' heritage, it should have been a fantastic game. Perhaps the reason there wasn't a major fanfare about the iOS release was it was just cash-cow milking experiment.

So, if you're a fan of WWE and its brand of muscle-bound entertainment or just a dude tweaking over the lack of Angry Birds content, I'd say go ahead and give this one a go. I dug it and I'm the kind of guy who often rolls his eyes at Angry Birds references.

It's a pleasant enough read and the unusual puzzles are a nice change of pace, but it doesn't quite offer the bang for the buck that you would get with many of Tin Man's other efforts.

I love falling block puzzlers and there are a lot of good aspects to Dr. Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine. It looks good, the controls are responsive, and I respect that it tries something new in the genre. Unfortunately the core gimmick is also what sinks it. It’s too hard to focus on setting up solid combos when you have to deal with all the frustrating traps along the way. Survival often feels like pure luck, and I’m not a fan of that kind of thing in a game like this. Ultimately, I’d just rather play Puyo Puyo.

F1 2016 is a great game if you only want to do Time Trials but a pretty frustrating one if you like racing against the AI. Codemasters has always had a problem getting the AI to work right in its F1 games, so I'm not really surprised to see the AI in F1 2016 having all these issues.

Once you get past the nice visuals and interesting locations, Men's Room Mayhem is a pretty standard affair as far as line-drawing games are concerned. It's enjoyable, and the thematics are certainly different, but there's really not much new as far as gameplay. Based on that, unless you're looking to revive the glory days of old-school line-drawing, I'd probably suggest taking a pass.

It's certainly not the most interesting revival we've ever seen, and neither does it forge any new ground in terms of a standalone iOS title. I'd never accuse it of being a bad game -- far from it -- but it's simply too pedestrian to get remotely excited about.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a companion game and it feels very much like one. It’s a very average game overall, with the strongest point being its presentation and the weakest being how much of a grind it becomes. It’s hard to recommend to anyone who isn’t deeply interested in Eiyuden Chronicle, and even then something tells me this isn’t going to be a critical piece of lore for the main game. It’s adequate, and given how many excellent games we have on the Switch of a similar style, I’m not sure that’s enough.

True, the gorgeous visuals certainly warrant consideration (especially on newer iOS hardware), and the battle system is filled with potential, but the controls are a huge black mark on the entire experience.
