Overall Don Bradman ‘17 is an improvement over its predecessor, especially visually. What’s holding it back, however, is the erratic AI fielding and uninspiring commentary. Still, it’s reassuring that despite being pretty much the only cricket game available, it hasn’t rested on its laurels.

Slick, addictive, yet oddly unfulfilling, Invisible, Inc. is great for dipping into, as long as you aren't expecting deep gameplay or substantial narrative rewards.

For a game whose hero is only one letter short from being named after the greatest monster of the past century, Ys: Memories of Celceta doesn’t do too badly at all. Sure, the lack of vocal tracks and the balance issues conspire to stop the game from reaching its full potential, but it’s still a game that can stand proud both on the Vita and within the Ys catalogue.

Watch Dogs 2 is a superior game to its predecessor and a thoroughly entertaining romp in a season light on open world offerings.

So, what is the verdict on this year’s FIFA then? It feels like a new game presented in a spruced-up shell taken from the old one.

A great game for anyone after something that easy to pick up and play that will keep you chasing high scores for a long time to come.

If you like a fantasy rich turn based RPG you’d be an absolute fool not to buy Child of Light.

A beautiful game that rewards those who lose themselves in the story and the world that Stoic Studio has weaved.

Katamari Damacy Reroll is a hugely satisfying remaster of a PlayStation 2 classic. It may be dated in some areas but the core gameplay is utterly timeless and for good reason. There is nothing else like it.

A wonderful experience only marred by its brevity.

The combat and gunplay have also been quite challenging at times. The AI is some of the best I’ve experienced in the genre as enemies don’t always just run up to you in open space (though, they tend to do so at times) but also attempt to flank you while you’re trying to take down a sniper from afar. Movement and cover are key to staying alive. The “bullet sponge” effect does still seem to be prevalent with mini-bosses and bosses despite the new armor system which intended to make gunfights more strategic. I’m still holding hope for some more interesting boss battles later in the game.

In a Venn diagram of South Park fans and adventure RPG fans this game exists in the overlap. If you find yourself there too then this game is an absolute no-brainer.

Come for the puzzles, enjoy the odd bit of exposition and do all you can to ignore the ‘supporting’ mechanics then and you’ll probably have a great time – just try to keep a handle on your willpower and stop yourself from ruining the game yourself with all those easily accessible solutions.

Once you understand that this game, whilst centred on an elemental and molecular foundation, is really just about moving blocks until they’re in the right place - and have been put there in the correct order - you’ll be able to beat all one-hundred and forty four levels of it (these can all be unlocked from the start if desired) and suffice to say such a result would be as rewarding as getting an A+ in any school exam.

An accomplished racer that takes the game beyond the track, F1 2016 takes pole position as Codemasters most enjoyable take on the series to date.

I love Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. It feels fresh while keeping some of the great traits of the first game. The changes may even change the minds of players which did not enjoy the game that preceded it. It controls very well, looks great, sounds great and is a lot of fun. Just give it a shot, I think you will like it.

Hotline Miami and its sequel stand the test of time as two titles built around an excellent combat loop while offering so much more as well. The visuals, soundtrack, and kinetic combat combine to form one of the greatest indie titles in history - and one still worth playing in 2019.

N++ is a gem, a deliciously evil little treat wrapped in moreish gameplay that most developers can only dream of, eliciting cheers and screams in equal measure.

Rhythm games are all about music, and in Tadpole Treble Encore, the music is literally centre stage. With additional and original content added to the Switch release, it feels the perfect platform for Bitfinity's musical platformer.

If you can look past the superficial failings of PES and accept MyClub as a FUT substitute then you can console yourself with the beautiful game in its finest representation.

Like a lot of various other media and art, I can appreciate the technical skill involved in its creation, but find it a tad too vexing for my own personal enjoyment. Maybe this dog’s too old to be taught new tricks; players more able of mind may fare better. But don’t count on it.

In addition, the games are over fifteen years old, and no amount of HD polish can hide the fact that they simply haven’t dated well, (particularly Night Warriors). Darkstalkers is in the unfortunate position of being less accessible than both Street Fighter II and IV, and outclassed by Third Strike.

As random as it sounds, combining robots, pinball, and hack and slash game play absolutely works. The Creature in the Well is by no means a casual game due to its difficulty, though the slow but steady ramping of skill required and the satisfaction of completing a dungeon section are more than enough to keep almost any gamer trying to beat just one more room.

The Walking Dead on the Vita is still the same fantastic game it was before; the story still resonates, you still form emotional connections with the characters and you still have the same pangs of horrific doubt over each and every choice the game puts in front of you.

EA have struck pure gold with Fifa 15, the series is back where it needs to be following the few setbacks of Fifa 14, and this year’s additions have taken it to a whole new level.

After a steep learning curve Sairento treats you to a tactical orchestra of blades, bullets and acrobatics. Its a pure joy to dissect each stage while performing amazing feats and killing with style. Its like no other game on PSVR and I highly recommend it.

One of the first adventure releases in a while that successfully blends the old and the new.

Despite availability issues, Super Mario 3D All-Stars is easily one of the greatest games on Switch and a celebration of some of the best Nintendo games of all-time.
