This delivery brings a lot of freedom when it comes to customization, as well as a large pool of elements to choose from. Nevertheless, the game's interface, accessibility and lack of assistance to make players feel at ease are strong impediments to make this a more enjoyable, fluid and creative experience. The principle of RPG Maker MV is right, but it needs a much better adaptation to a console format.- Starbit

Space Invaders Forever is a collection that consists of three adaptations of Taito's timeless classic and if the presence of Space Invaders Extreme is by itself a major highlight, then a bigger effort should have gone into adapting these games to the format of the Nintendo Switch. Local multiplayer is a very fun experience, but an online component would have made everything much better.- Starbit

Super Sports Blast is a compilation that gathers the three previous games under the Super Sports name in one offer, bringing tennis, volleyball and football under one game. While the gameplay of the original titles is left intact, this compilation adds nothing to the overall experience and its sole advantage is the convenience of having all three games in on package. Players looking for a simple and accessible experience will enjoy themselves, but the lack of an online multiplayer is something that should be corrected in the future.- Starbit

Grindstone on the Nintendo Switch is a puzzle game with origins in the mobile market, but don't let that deceive you: this is a real gem that will grab players' attention from the very beginning for hours on end, and where everything is delightfully addicting and marvelously executed. Anyone who thinks a game with origins on mobile devices cannot deliver a good experience on the Nintendo Switch should take a good look at Grindstone as soon as possible.- Starbit

Fatal Fury: First Contact brings back an SNK fighting game to the Nintendo Switch and what's on offer is pretty much consistent with the original work. This is not an ambitious endeavour, and the dearth of game modes make the experience rather limited. Still, the characters available and their moves are fun to explore. On the other hand, it would be nice to have some extras, and there are performance issues that should have been corrected.- Starbit

Sam & Max Save the World Remastered is a perfect fit on the Nintendo Switch. The investment made in improving the game's audiovisual environment is worth of praise and brings this game up to today's tastes, making it something to be embraced by both veterans and new players alike. With its devilishly funny dialogues and a gameplay that can be easily handled in this new format that presents the game in one go, rather than the original's episodic delivery, Sam & Max Save the World Remastered is a marvel for everyone.- Starbit

While its visual environment might impress at first, the gameplay is rather limited due to the lack of single player options and absence of enough players to allow for a varied online experience, not to mention that the performance on the Nintendo Switch is far from stellar and the controller input lag can make things more frustrating. All in all, Override 2: Super Mech League lost a good chance to make a name for itself.- Starbit

Traffix presents a simple but effective concept: a puzzle game built around the task of controlling streetlights. Simple, but challenging, as the difficulty level begins climbing quickly enough, sometimes too much for some players to handle, but the overall experience is nothing but a success, especially with the game’s slick controls.- Starbit

Picklock is a very simple game, and there's nothing wrong with that. The problem, however, is that other than a memorable jazz-heavy soundtrack, there's very little where Picklock excels. Its gameplay experience, while not a complete failure, is hindered by camera errors, occasional bugs, and not very intuitive controls, as well as by a poor translation job. There are plenty of examples of simple games that provide very fun experiences but alas, Picklock does not do enough to reach that threshold.- Starbit

Under the guise of stealth action and infiltration missions, we find a game that's mercilessly difficult to the point of putting off players less keen on multiple trial and error attempts. Its complicated controls, long loading times and punishing consequences if the mission goes south mean that Commandos 2: HD Remaster lost a chance to be a more user-friendly game, as well as to try to reach to a wider audience. Those who enjoy a cruel difficulty level, however, and who don't mind spending a lot of concentration in their missions will find something well worthy of their attention.- Starbit

Five Dates is an experience that assumes the shape of an interactive movie based on the player's choices and its background, directly related to the restrictions imposed as a response to the ongoing global pandemic, will certainly resonate with many players. The acting involved is indeed worthy of praise and grants the game a good dose of realism but the experience quickly runs out of appeal and the game's simplistic goal of finding a life partner is not enough to make this a remarkable work.- Starbit

While the gameplay can feel entirely different depending on the control scheme used, this doesn't affect Ellipsis' value as a good and fun game for shorter sessions. Putting aside the concept of two dogs sharing the same body, PHOGS! puts the player solving puzzles that require a good use of the laws of physics, and it does a great job at that - even more so in cooperative multiplayer, which is where PHOGS! truly shines. If the execution of the mostly simple and accessible puzzle-solving is done without a scratch, there are a few technical flaws to be found but which don't harm the game's overall experience.- Starbit

Maid of Sker may be a rather short experience but it's a very rewarding at providing a frightening environment that excels at all levels. This point and click adventure with a few (too few) action and puzzle moments features a marvelous writing work, a captivating and disgruntled world, an exquisite visual presentation and top voice acting. Apparition draws inspiration from some of the most successful horror-themed games of the last decade and it certainly succeeds at inspiring fear and dread, causing chills down the player's spine in sheer terror that the game's wretched ghosts are right around the corner. Unfortunately Apparition's limitations when it comes to its narrow and short experience, excessive repetition and unambitious visual environment make its appeal very limited to a niche of horror games fans and not much more.- Starbit

Root Double -Before Crime * After Days- Xtend Edition is a long name for a long game, a visual novel built around a captivating plot that's anchored on mystery and whose endings make the experience worthwhile. Its gameplay mechanics are enjoyable, although a bit too unwelcoming for beginners, and its audiovisual world is good enough to be immersive. The problem is this third chapter in a series of action RPGs does little to stand out amid its peers and what was remarkable in previous years ends up feeling repetitive by now, with little new elements to add. Fans of the series who want a modern Torchlight might be pleased with what they find here but players looking for something fresh and able to stand against other modern action RPGs will end up disappointed.- Starbit

Immortals Fenyx Rising is ambitious and putting this game on a Nintendo Switch is a feat, in a certain way. However, the game fails to impress at the several facets it puts up - there's plenty of content, but it gets repetitive soon; the game world is vast, but the enemies' variety is too short; the combat is engaging, but quickly becomes too simplistic. On top of that, the game is clearly affected by performance issues on the Nintendo Switch. While there are good elements on display, Immortals Fenyx Rising could certainly use some improvements in order to stand out on the Nintendo Switch catalogue.- Starbit

G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout is an action game that takes no risks in venturing outside the usual conventions, and while it may be a fun effort for longtime fans of the series, thanks to its wide cast of characters, it will end up feeling like a rather drab work for everyone else. If the variety of game modes and content is worthy of praise, the game's lackadaisical AI and overall monotony make G.I. Remothered: Broken Porcelain follows the trail of two other horror-based games that while far from perfect, did display some interesting ideas. Unfortunately, this attempt to wrap the Remothered trilogy does not succeed in any front. If the visual downgrades can somehow be explained by the Nintendo Switch conversion, the other serious issues in this work are simply inexcusable - controls that don't work and actions that don't happen, unsynchronized dialogue lines, random crashes, long loading times...all this amounts to an experience that has nothing going for it.- Starbit

Just Dance 2021 follows the classical formula of Ubisoft's successful series and while it doesn't tread outside of its usual conventions, it proves once again that this is one of the best designed party games out there. It misses, however, in one crucial aspect - despite the possibility to pair up with players around the world for tournament play, it lacks an online component that would put friends playing against each other. With that in mind, Ubisoft's subscription service widely expands the catalogue of songs and the fitness option, as well as kid-friendly mode, are two very welcome components.- Starbit

Wallachia: Reign of Dracula is a fun and compelling action platformer that acts as a good tribute to its inspirations and stands out amid its peers. The title UnderHero gives a hint about what the game is about, but it also shows the game's rather unassuming nature. LUNA The Shadow Dust looks much better than it plays. The game looks gorgeous, with its hand-drawn like style and its colouring but the gameplay experience doesn't live up to the same threshold set by the visual environment. Its puzzles are accessible enough to most players and the game doesn't push too hard but what's presented here could perhaps fit better in a visual novel rather than a point and click adventure, especially when its control system is far from perfect.- Starbit

Postal Redux can be seen as a sort of a time capsule that brings us back to the second half of the 1990s, when unlimited on-screen violence could make a name for a new game. While this version includes several improvements, it still feels like it's stuck in its original time. The new Rampage mode is certainly worthy of note but everything else here is visibly outdated and should be seen with nostalgia in mind, rather than as an effort to stand out in today's world.- Starbit

HyperBrawl Tournament brings a heap of chaotic fun to the Nintendo Switch, especially on multiplayer. Over The Alps is a game with a lovely looking presentation and a concept that's original and interesting. If those two elements raise the game's threshold, it's also not any less true that the plot development and the way the gameplay flows is hardly passionate or exciting. For a game based on espionage, the plot choices are strangely inconsequential and this makes players feel like their actions have little impact on what's happening, which ends up standing as an impediment to the ambitions of Over The Alps.- Starbit

Terror Squid deserves to be praised for its intuitive, easy to grasp gameplay and for its score attack challenge, a characteristic that is not far from arcade experiences of previous years. Inmost carries with it a strong, emotional message related to feelings of loss and grief and as such, it's a game that starts off right when it comes to bonding with its players. Unfortunately it doesn't take long until unexplainable performance issues start harming the experience with an inconsistent framerate, which is difficult to understand as this is not a visually demanding game (despite its very competent audiovisual art style), and the dull, redundant gameplay with two of its three characters transmits close to nothing in terms of challenge. Inmost could have turned out much better, with a greater investment in its gameplay experience and in solving its paralyzing issues but as it is, this is an interesting but also extremely frustrating game.- Starbit

Given the short number of similar games, it's always good to see the Nintendo Switch catalogue accepting more proposals of less represented endeavours. In the case of Nexomon: Extinction, it features a laudable amount and variety of creatures, appealing art style, and it's fairly simple to get into. At the same time, it's far from a groundbreaking game, though competent, and it feels like it follows its main inspirations a little too close. That said, it's a welcome arrival for those looking for more creatures to capture and collect.- Starbit

Lair of the Clockwork God sets a rather ambitious purpose for itself: to successfully merge platforming and point and click mechanics and wrap them up in a funny and enjoyable package with its own brand of humour. It succeeds at the latter, less so at the former. Indeed, platforming and point and click still feel entirely separate from each other in this work, but that doesn't mean they can't be enjoyed.- Starbit

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a commemorative edition and one that's mostly about nostalgia. This means that players looking for a reinvention of the three classics included herewith will not find what they're looking for, as the contents on this release consist of something as close to the originals as possible, with only a few tweaks added. This will satisfy those looking for a strictly nostalgic experience, but it will also highlight how Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine did not age perfectly. Beyond that, it's difficult to understand why there's a one-year time limit on the availability of this release, or why there's so little additional content for an anniversary edition other than the three games' soundtracks. In any case, those looking for a revival experience will be well served.- Starbit

It's not every day that a cult series of nearly 40 years has a brand new entry in a contemporary gaming system. It does a fine job at portraying elements of the series, and with two history modes it allows for players to either follow the main character or create their own, which is the most rewarding choice. Nonetheless, Rise of New Champions has some aspects that need additional work. Most of the football experience is fun and addictive, but the game's camera often feels off, the loading times are long and the game's overall technical performance on the Nintendo Switch falls short of what is expected. Fans of the series will love this entry, while others might feel put off by its flaws.- Starbit

There is some enjoyment to find in the game's rhythm-based puzzles and in the comic-like sequences, but the game can get too repetitive and some of its missions feel forced and unnecessary. Overall, Giraffe and Annika needed some more time and attention dedicated to its best ideas to be a more engaging work.- Starbit

Jump Force Deluxe Edition arrives on the Nintendo Switch with some concessions regarding its technical aspects and if the character roster and special moves will certainly appeal to the fans of the series that are portrayed here, the rest of the audience will mostly feel that the game's shortcomings regarding its visual performance and rather lacklustre combat is not enough to stand out from its peers.- Starbit

Spellbreak joins the growing catalogue of battle royale games on the Nintendo Switch and adds its contribution under the form of a game that follows some of the genre's conventions but also brings something of its own, namely when it comes to a combat that features magical elements, rather than firearms. Spellbreak could use some more content and reasons to return to, as it can feel rather empty too quickly, but its tactical elements and fun combat, along with its free-to-play model, make this an option that is set to grow and develop in the near future.- Starbit

Cross Code is a marvelous 2D action RPG that features an interesting idea of a game-within-a-game and which treats the player to a lovely visual environment that recalls the 16-bit era right away, versatile combats, appealing dungeon exploration and plenty of freedom to wander around. Its occasional performance flaws, already under rectifying action, are not enough to tarnish the experience, which is one of the best to be had among RPGs in the Nintendo Switch catalogue.- Starbit

Part dating sim, part pet sim, its dimensions end up standing on each other's way and never quite fulfilling the best that those two genres can achieve. The game's world is quite a gem to discover, with its multicoloured design and profusion of characters, but the game's inconvenient controls when it comes to look after the character's puppy and a certain lack of clarity when it comes to the game's purpose make this experience somewhat of a half-success.- Starbit

Manifold Garden is a peculiar and attractive experience. In many ways, the game feels more like an audiovisual experience than as an interactive work and its art style and soundtrack definitely stand out as indispensable elements. At the same time, some of its puzzles turn out to be less enjoyable than they should, and the game's short lifespan and little motivation to pick up again after completed mean that even though it has outstanding qualities, Manifold Garden falls short of its potential.- Starbit

Spitlings presents itself as a chaotic arcade game, even though it starts off on a rather slow pace that may put off less patient players. Nonetheless, those who dedicate some time to immerse themselves with the simple mechanics involved will be duly rewarded with a fun and varied multiplayer experience that doesn’t leave out a bit of a tactical dimension. Spitlings is less stellar on a single player basis, though, and it can become rather repetitive on a short-term basis.- Starbit

Connection Haunted has an original concept joined to an interesting game world and several alternative endings. At the same time, it offers little in terms of longevity as its main idea is done with too quickly. Then again, this game does not intend to be a monumental work but rather a simple, if immersive, horror experience. In the end, there's plenty to explore here for a potential sequel.- Starbit

This is a game that's mostly aimed at a public looking for a quick experience and while it does a pretty good job at that, it also runs of ideas too quickly and would really benefit from having an online component, but since that's not available players will have to settle with hat's on offer here, which is not bad at all.- Starbit

Road to Guangdong is a simple effort but it does most of its job right: providing a relaxing, contemplative experience, where the player comes into contact with the plot through text and makes dialogue choices that make the story advance. A number of puzzles also makes part of the experience, as does a series of actions that are part and parcel of driving a car. While the game does well when it comes to relaxing the player, its controls become a hassle when handling the car parts, and that can cause some harm to the experience.- Starbit

Elden: Path of the Forgotten will definitely evoke memories and impressions of some very known action and adventure games, namely those with a particularly difficult combat. When it comes to the fights, Elden demands a certain tactical mindset but it also runs the risk of becoming too repetitive. With a charming audiovisual presentation but a plot that suffers from minimal narration efforts, this is a game that might please fans of action and adventure games but which will have some work to do if it is to convince other players.- Starbit

With a varied and high quality musical selection based on Rock and Metal, the game's audiovisual component is worthy of praise. As for its gameplay, it can get a bit confusing at moments when there are too many things on the screen simultaneously, and a plot that feels too bland. Still, Double Kick Heroes can be a fun experience, especially for those who are particularly keen on Rock and Metal music.- Starbit

Skully would be a great recommendation, were it not for its execution: poor camera mechanics, an inconsistent visual performance and unstable fluidity mean that the game's experience is severely harmed, not because of the game's creative input but because of its subpar execution. With a thorough update that can correct those issues, Skully can be a star in the Nintendo Switch catalogue.- Starbit

Hotel Sowls joins the niche of point and click adventure games in the Nintendo Switch and even though it does not reinvent the genre for a new age, it does a good job at delivering an experience akin to that of its peers. Featuring interesting characters, involving dialogues and a plot that can reach a surprising turnaround, Hotel Sowls does not go so far as to provide the player with a groundbreaking experience but it does a competent job at creating a game world and the atmosphere to go along with it.- Starbit

Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break does not reveal what the game is about but the word 'rock' is key - yes, this is a game about rocks. Beyond that, there's really not much more to add. There's a level editor that allows online sharing, which is always welcome, but Rock of Ages 3 barely makes an effort to provide any hints or notes of a fun and engaging experience and it will only take a few minutes for most players to move their attention elsewhere.- Starbit

There's no doubt that Ageless is based on a laudable concept and that its plot, as well as its blend between platforming and puzzle elements work at a competent degree. Tiny Racer may not be very ambitious but unfortunately, it doesn't try to be a good racing game either. Despite a good speed performance, nothing else seems to work as it should in the game, and after looking at vehicles that may look different but behave identically, the game's driving mechanics simply don't stand up to the standards that most players expect from racing games. Overall, Tiny Racer is not a worthy alternative to the other racing games on the Nintendo Switch online catalogue.- Starbit

There aren't many city building games on the Nintendo Switch, let alone with adventure elements. Unfortunately the way Mittelborg was executed leads to a sub-par effort. With controls that are difficult to get used to, a lack of touch-screen interaction, very little variety on what's happening during the gameplay and a poor translation and plot development, Mittelborg: City of Mages turns out to be a major disappointment after creating reasonable expectations.- Starbit

Monster Prom XXL is a fun and creative dating sim, a kind of game that's not very common on the Nintendo Switch catalogue. Gerrrms is a simple, multiplayer-oriented party brawler that was made with the social side of gaming in mind. While a solo experience is available, Gerrrms clearly plays better in a multiplayer context and at that, it does a decent job. Trails of Cold Steel III is a very ambitious game in terms of plot and lore but it really couldn't be no other way in this series. If the fans will be delighted to mire in the game's content, improved interface and combat system, it's also not any less true that Trails of Cold Steel III can feel intimidating for players unfamiliar with the series, and as such they might not enjoy this effort as much as long-time fans, who will find a long-lasting work to wrap themselves with.- Starbit

Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1 & 2 is a compilation of arcade classics similar to other collections we have seen in the last decades. The emulation of the games included in the two releases is extremely competent at every level. At the same time and unlike other similar works, including others by Namco, these two titles are very bland beyond the games included and have nearly nothing to offer in terms of additional content, something which seems to particularly affect the European release of Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1 & 2.- Starbit
