ZHED is a unique puzzle game with simple mechanics and challenging brain-teasers for an overall relaxing time.

Kevin Smith built a career on fan service, and Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl is as fan service-y as it gets. On its face, it’s a typical arcade beat-’em-up, but with a shiny View Askew coat of paint. If you’re looking for a solid brawler that harkens to the NES days or you’re an aficionado of Smith’s filmography, it’s easy to recommend this charming title.

To sum this up, Treachery in Beatdown City is a lot of fun, but I can’t suggest it due to the stability problems. Now I’m not saying to never get the game. What I am saying is I’d wait a while so the devs can hash out the issues.

Spirit of the North is an atmospheric, evocative adventure game with puzzle/platforming elements that—despite being clumsily implemented in parts—are ultimately rewarding if you stick with it.

I enjoyed Factotum 90 much more than the original Factotum. Complete with updated graphics and smoother controls, I would say the Nintendo Switch game is the definitive version. I definitely recommend checking it out if you’re into puzzle-solving games.

SNK GALS’ FIGHTERS will find success on the Nintendo Switch by appealing to nostalgia. Those who can appreciate what this 2D fighter did back in the day should still appreciate it now, shallowness and all. Especially at only $7.99, considering an original cart could find you spending hundreds.

Later Daters reinforces the natural desire for companionship, even at an older age. The game is just silly enough at times that it makes for a funny dating sim, without making its characters out to be a joke. There is a ton of media that focuses on trying to normalize elderly relationships, and I think Later Daters is highly effective—and most importantly fun.

If you’re a big fan of point-and-click adventures, especially those respecting the genre’s heyday, you’ll find Guard Duty to be a good game. I can’t give it as high a recommendation as first thought due to some story aspects and the way they’re intertwined, but I liked it enough that I’m hoping for a sequel.

Blind Men is very brief and could be improved with more detail, but it still offers an interesting story with multiple outcomes.

Fans of turn-based combat games will enjoy aspects of Broken Lines, but not without a certain degree of aggravation. It has promise, but the story and gameplay could’ve used a little more refinement.

As a throwback to 8-bit platformers, Miles & Kilo works better than most. It also works as a legitimate reason to fire up your old Nintendo 3DS and remember how much fun action/arcade games were—and how cool that 3D effect was—the first time you played it.

Archaica lifts the puzzle game genre into a fantastical world with a rich and gripping history.

While Bug Academy might not be what you should use when you’re studying for your Entomology exam, it is still a blast to play. The asking price of $12.99 is well worth it. Bug Academy proved to me that bugs are more than just pests that wouldn’t be any fun in a video game.

Dread Nautical provides a very good turn-based adventure underneath an unfortunately cartoonish presentation. It can’t quite figure out if it wants to be scary or goofy, but the gameplay and level designs are deep enough to keep players engaged throughout.

All in all, I can’t hate on this game. The story’s interesting and keeps you going; if nothing else to see what happens to the spoiled prince. Overall, KEMCO has another nice entry on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Play Monster Viator for a sense of what I described.

While a cheap shot somewhat spoils what otherwise would be an excellent game, Rush Rover is still is an amazing value and good title.

A paint by numbers entry into what’s becoming an inflated genre but the gameplay can still be fun despite feeling repetitive, especially late on.

In the end, this port turned out to be an average experience for me in most ways. I’d suggest checking out the free version first (on mobile with half the levels). Subsequently, you can decide if adding Mekorama to your Switch digital library is the right call.

Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe is an average fighting game. Although the gameplay isn’t bad, there are too many other underlying issues that keep me from recommending this title. Try another fighter instead.

Duck Souls+ is a simple platformer with a cute 8-bit style, fun sense of humour and selection of cool hats to accessorise your duck with. What’s not to like?

Saints Row IV: Re-Elected is a logical continuation for such a nonsensical series. Despite some issues with mission structure and some signs of age, this is still a very good superpowered thrill ride of presidential proportions.

Diabolic is a fun action-adventure game with smooth controls and unique gameplay. It’ll challenge you but not to the point where you’ll rage quit.

While there’s definitely room for improvement and expansion, I can see kids liking this game quite a bit. There’s plenty to unlock, and hearing that you did something better than Mama brings a smile. As someone new to the series, Cooking Mama: Cookstar felt reasonably fresh to me. But vets may find it more so resembles leftovers. Hopefully, the rights holder and publisher can work things out.

Otherworldly is just a little underwhelming and short for the price. I recommend waiting for a discount if this looks like a game you would be interested in.

Bohemian Killing isn’t the prettiest game in the world, but it’s certainly a fascinating experience. It delivers on both its concept as a good ol’ fashioned whodunnit, as well as its unconventional approach to storytelling.

While it’s got problems, SnakeyBus remains a fun game with one of the more creative ideas I’ve seen lately.

My time spent with HyperParasite was a lot of fun. Aside from the difficulty at times, it was enjoyable to take over host bodies. Being able to take over people and use different abilities kept the game feeling fresh. HyperParasite is definitely worth the asking price of $17.99.

Save Koch is an absorbing story with well-written characters and a genuinely engaging mystery.

If you subscribe to Apple Arcade and can play Shinsekai Into the Depths on any of your Apple devices, there’s little to be gained by moving it to the Switch. But if the Switch is your only access to this undersea wonderland, Shinsekai is an intriguing, engaging, and beautiful adventure worth exploring.

While Random Heroes may make a decent mobile game, the updated version—Random Heroes: Gold Edition—isn’t really up to par, especially for the asking price of $4.99. It is an excellent example of why some games should stay on mobile devices.

Swordbreaker The Game delivers on its promise of a choose-your-own-adventure story. If you like reading and enjoy a somewhat crazy adventure, this isn’t a bad way to spend a few hours, especially if you’re in self-isolation mode right now.

Arcade games are known for being to-the-point and energetic. Finding one that’s both of those things, and fast-paced, is a treasure. There’s definitely replayability in a title like Super Destronaut: Land Wars. Short as it might be overall, the game modes never get boring.

Roundguard is a unique twist on the RPG and puzzle genres. With smooth controls and fun gameplay, Roundguard has some great potential.

Alder’s Blood is a wonderfully crafted game with an intoxicating story. Its missions are simple but your strategy can’t be if you want to survive.

Exit the Gungeon is a refreshing next step for the franchise. The smaller scale comes with certain drawbacks, but it’s nonetheless a worthwhile experience, even if it’s not to the same standard as the original.

I still enjoyed this game for the way it offered some youthful nostalgia. It delivers a definite challenge. But LA-MULANA 2 is cut from the same cloth and does very little that’s different from the first. While that doesn’t make the game bad, it does make it frustrating.

No, I didn’t chuck my controller as I’ve grown up. However, I still say the game cheats. That aside, LA-MULANA has a ton of playability as you try to find hidden shops and solve the puzzles. It is not the best game on the Switch, but it is a lot of fun. It would be a shame to pass up this little hidden gem.

I think this game offers quite a bit of nostalgia. And even with all of its faults, I found ways to cheese the system or use the Force in fun ways to get through the missions. However, as fun as it was, I don’t know that it’s an accessible title for gamers who aren’t fully versed on how games in 2003 played or are expecting a current-gen SW gaming experience.

To do today: get up, brush teeth, follow strange dream about a deer and head off to the cursed castle to see what happens. Sounds like a plan, so what could possibly go wrong? Well, we all know the answer to that question, don’t we? In Operencia, you take off on a journey of exploration, adventure, and heroic deeds—not to mention monsters and mayhem. If you enjoy turn based RPGs, this one is worth checking out.

I see great potential in Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories! I do think that there will be patches to fix the frame rate, and maybe even DLC chapters continuing the story.

The Complex is a cleverly made interactive movie with an intriguing sci fi plot that eerily parallels the real world.

For the most part, R.B.I. Baseball 20 is the best the series has been in a lot of areas–even the soundtrack is better this year! That being said, they are no longer the only game in town. With other baseball games offering more solid gameplay, the R.B.I. Baseball series really needs to up their game. I prefer playing with real MLB teams, but if the gameplay isn’t as fun and engaging, more and more people will go to another arcade baseball title. R.B.I. Baseball 20 is a very solid experience, but not all of the new features hit a home run. And, no online multiplayer for the Switch audience makes the Switch version really hard to recommend over its console counterparts.

Thunder Paw is a charming platformer that’s short but not so sweet. The gameplay doesn’t hold up compared to the cute pixel art and fun music.

Ski Sniper is fun enough for some shooting practice with a funny premise, but it doesn’t have a whole lot of meat to it.

Ganbare! Super Strikers is a fun tactical RPG that happens to feature soccer players. The turn-based approach works well overall, though the formula can wear a little thin after playing several matches in a row.

Bubble Bobble 4 Friends is an unfortunate step backward. It’s a fun, but very vanilla entry in the long-running series. The launch content doesn’t match the launch price, nor does it compare favorably with other arcade games available on the Switch eShop.

Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly is a clever, comical, completely accessible combat game that’ll appeal to arcade action fans of any age level. Gameplay is tight, the characters are engaging, and the music is simply outstanding. The Royal Guardsmen would definitely be proud…even if Snoopy himself is called out here.

Overpass certainly adds an interesting take on the genre, allowing for well-trodden ground to feel fresh. Unfortunately the difficulty of the game and poor handling will prevent most from making it past the tutorial.

Epic Word Search Collection doesn’t particularly excite, but it accomplishes what it sets out to do. If you own (and have enjoyed) prior Lightwood titles, the length of this one makes it worth adding to your Nintendo Switch digital library.

My time spent with Pooplers was disappointing as it wasn’t fun. I thought to myself several times when playing, “Who thought this was a good idea?” and “People are expected to play this and enjoy it?” I would not suggest this game to be played at your next gaming party or at all.

Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet is a short, sweet game that has enough heart and replayability to it that it is definitely worth the cheap price.

3000th Duel is a great play through and truly a hidden gem on the Switch. The more time I put into it, the more I enjoyed it. Despite my one small complaint, I enjoyed seeing what I would discover next. Metroidvania fans should certainly give this game a playthrough.

BE-A Walker may be a “walking simulator” but it’s nowhere near as humdrum as the genre suggests. The easy to pick up, difficult to master controls make the Joy-Cons work in tandem, in near-perfect harmony. The difficulty curve may be too much for some to handle, but if you’re looking for a satisfying challenge, this may just be it.

Wunderling is a challenging and fun puzzle platformer. With smooth controls and unique level designs, it’s hard not to say, “one more try.”

Ibb & obb plays like a smooth, simple platformer with no rough edges to be seen. The characters are cute and the puzzles are difficult enough have kept my husband and I engaged. I recommend this game for a fun, collaborative time.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons hit every checkbox for me. It’s clear in their handling of New Horizons that Nintendo truly cares about this series and understands its value to its audience.

Warriors Orochi IV Ultimate is so big and messy that I would never recommend it as an introduction to Mosou-style gaming. If, however, you beat Fire Emblem Warriors or Hyrule Warriors and thought, “Wait…that can’t be it,” you will not draw the same conclusion here. Not by a longshot.

While short, The Unholy Society is a fun story-driven game that uses an odd protagonist to tell an interesting story. Mix that with unique combat and cartoony graphics, you have a fun title for an afternoon.

While I can’t give Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection a broad recommendation above the Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2, I can still put in a favorable mention. Zero 3, and the two ZX games – Advent especially – are the top picks in this compilation, all with optional adjustments to better reflect modern gaming sensibilities.

Afterparty is a hilarious bar hop through Hell. I had a blast meeting all the demons and people roaming the streets and crashing Satan’s house party. I highly recommend this game for anyone who is looking for a humorous take on life and death. Night Club Studio knocks another one out the park.

My time spent with the collection was great. Langrisser I & Lagrisser II both are immensely strong strategy turn-based RPG games, which make them so great. Fans who love the likes of Fire Emblem and Advance Wars are in for a treat with this collection. I can’t wait to put more hours into this one!

Skull Rogue is a unique endless adventure. The gameplay is simple, and the idea to beat your previous record is fun. However, what starts as a challenge quickly becomes too easy.

Dead or School provides a surprisingly long side-scrolling action campaign that’s sure to please fans of Castlevania-style games, especially those who’ve grown tired of countless retro-graphic homages. The action is tight, the story is fun, and the rewards are big.

At its core, Ego Protocol: Remastered is a harmless puzzle affair, but quickly becomes a forgettable exercise in blandness.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is exactly what you expect it to be: it’s a fun dungeon crawler with a cute art style, all your favourite Pokémon and an overarching message of love and friendship that is generally best suited to younger players.

I had way more fun with Hidden Through Time than expected. Of course, if you’re not a fan of the hide and seek premise, this game might not change your mind. But this is a bargain when you consider it’s just $7.99 for everything it includes. If the map editor can be enhanced, this very good game would become a great one.

Fishing Adventure is a mediocre fishing experience for the Nintendo Switch. While it looks nice, it suffers from a simple and repetitive formula that detracts from the overall experience. The idea of leveling up and earning rewards is sound, but it’s executed poorly, making it feel like a grinding experience.

Last Encounter is punishing with difficult AI and controls. Be prepared to die a lot and invest a good chunk of time if you hope to master the game and make progress.

Bloodroots is a charmingly written tale of revenge. Although its story lacks originality, it makes up for it in vast weapon variety and satisfying yet challenging gameplay that keeps you coming back for more.

As a fan of cinematic platformers, I rather enjoyed playing Stela from start to finish. Be that as it may, it didn’t take me long at all, hence one of my leading (but not my only) concerns. At under three hours, and with little replay value to speak of, $19.99 is a lot to launch for on the Nintendo Switch. On sale, this would be one to consider for sure, depending on how burnt out you might be on the subgenre.

MouseCraft, while pretty easy, is a fun and unique puzzle game. It’s great to play on the go and worth a buy.

What it all boils down to is that Knightin’+ struggled to keep me engaged. The lack of an overworld of any type makes it ultimately forgettable. For $5.99, you’ll get a strictly average title.

Inbento is a joyful little game that’s wonderfully presented. It’s perhaps too challenging for young kids, however, and not varied enough for adults. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth playing, but rather—like lunch itself—that it’s best enjoyed if you and a youngster can share the time spent with it.

Murder By Numbers puts you into the heart of a detective drama with fun characters to hook you into the story and puzzles that give your brain a decent workout.

I’m not sure Wet Dreams Don’t Dry is worth playing if you’ve never been on an adventure with Leisure Suit Larry before, but those of us who have will enjoy the trip back in time to…uh…2020. The comedy is mostly there, the frustrating puzzles are fully there, and the lessons therein will make us take a critical look at ourselves if we’re open to doing so. Larry’s always been useful in that way.

Tower of Babel – no mercy is a great game to play with the family or friends. It’s easy to understand, has a silly and charming style, and can be played for as many rounds as people desire.

Vitamin Connection is pretty much a unique concept, so if you’re looking for a game that’s hard to compare to others, this one should be near the top of your wishlist. Just keep in mind that, much like actual vitamins, this game is best in small doses. Also, if you’re a solo player, be mindful that backtracking and encountering difficulty spikes through maze-like bodies is best when tackled as a pair.

Sometimes you want a game to play while watching TV or just needing to kill time. The $39.99 price I feel is too much, especially with the crashes. But if it goes on sale, give Two Point Hospital a shot.

Metro: Last Light is included in the ‘Metro Redux’ package for the Switch. While you can certainly buy the games separately from the eShop, I think it’s still good to experience the series from its roots. You’ll notice the improvements that have been made and I believe your time with the game will be that much more satisfying. Just like with Metro 2033, this game features all of the DLC including a ‘Ranger Mode’ that offers a HUD-less, UI-less experience with more powerful enemies and even fewer resources. If you can’t get enough of the Metro experience, you’ll want to give the Ranger Mode a try.

While certainly an interesting game, Metro 2033 won’t be for every first-person shooter fan. However, if you enjoy a more thought provoking, story-driven adventure you’ll most likely enjoy yourself. With all of the game’s DLC included, there’s a good amount of content to keep you busy.

Psikyo Shooting Stars Bravo certainly gave me more time spent with the arcade shooter genre. I can say with absolute certainty that I have a greater appreciation for the genre than when I went into this review. I recommend it to those who have a great appreciation for arcade shooters. I also recommend it for those who are curious or would like to have a solid collection to round out their Switch library.

Tilt Pack’s simplicity is both its biggest strength and weakness. The game offers very little for those playing alone, but there’s a lot to enjoy if you’re playing with friends.

With scores of tracks, bikes, and modifications to be had—along with a multiplayer mode to share with your friends—Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame 3 will keep a gamer happy for a good, long time.

With an enjoyable story, the novelty of changing between a large cast of characters, and a fun extra game mode, Code Shifter makes up for its shortcomings with many ideas successfully carried out. Bright, colorful, and energetic, Code Shifter is worth a buy for studio fans.

Help Me Doctor is a simulation game that’s made with broken dialogue, sprinkled with glitches, and only a pinch of gameplay. Save the $8 and find a different medical simulator.

SEN is for people who need a short puzzle game to pass some time. It’s a simple game that won’t stay with you, but It’s good for when you’ve had a hard day and just want to relax or channel your focus.

Although it’s great to see new games released for the 3DS (and with a good implementation of the 3D effect that even Nintendo eventually abandoned), Silver Falls: 3 Down Stars isn’t worth dusting off your old portable. It’s effectively creepy, but it’s also buggy, drab, and a general slog. However, it leaves me with hope that the developers will be able to put it all together in future games.

I get that this is more like an interactive story than an actual game. But I’d like some more interaction and less story. The reality of Evans’s life is just a little too close to home for me, but this would be a good learning experience for someone trying to understand depression and other mental health issues.

I had a blast from my day to day activities and my time spent with it didn’t feel like nearly enough. I will be playing this long after reviewing it. Rune Factory enthusiasts, as well as newcomers, should certainly give this a go.

Overall, the update for Retimed wasn’t too fancy but it was just enough content to keep players coming back for more. I’m pleased with the update and will definitely go back to the game for more.

Sci-fi and/or puzzle fans who are looking for an exotic, perplexing adventure that can terrify while challenging, will find a memorable experience with Soul Axiom Rebooted. Look for this atmospheric game to leave an impression with Switch players who check it out.

Coffee Talk is a fun game that offers entertaining conversation and chilled ambiance. For what it’s worth, the game’s setting and premise require very little from the player, but that also takes away the experience of playing a game. I recommend Coffee Talk to anyone interested in a relaxed time on the Switch, even if the choices you make along the way are minimal.

In the end, ELEA: Paradigm Shift looks and feels like a beta release. It has a very unfinished feel with all its problems. It wouldn’t even make a good hardware demo for the Switch because of glitches.

Super Mega Space Blaster Special Turbo may have an absurd title that’s hard to remember, but it’s a super-fun and addictive shooter, with plenty of modes and challenges. The high difficulty will please shmup fans, pushing you to play just one more time…

You don’t have to be a puzzle aficionado to enjoy Glass Masquerade 2: Illusions. It helps, of course, as would an appreciation for quality artwork. What really matters here, though, is that the game is so well-crafted and presented that it serves as a captivating, ethereal way to spend time relaxing with your Switch.

While EQQO has a few shortcomings that are quite apparent, it’s multi-layered, touching story and easy-to-understand puzzle mechanics make this journey worth a look.

Reed Remastered doesn’t do much of anything to leave a positive impression. Platformers (even one-hit-kill ones like this) are a dime a dozen on the Nintendo Switch. How does this one hope to stand out with the multiple ways it comes up short? I was hoping for better; I didn’t have fun playing it.

Milo’s Quest is a fun and cute game that plays like a simple RPG with a dog protagonist. There’s a lot to like for the budget price, though it does lack some variety and is over rather quickly.
