  1. It is the achievement of Gerhard Richter Painting to shine a light on that hidden, private act as few other films have done.
  2. A visceral story of beat cops that is rare in its sensitivity, rash in its violence and raw in its humor.
  3. Inspired by a documentary, the film is shot with vérité immediacy and beautifully acted by an outstanding ensemble. If not every piece of the puzzle delivers its intended impact, the movie as a whole gets under your skin, and the central characters resonate long after the screen goes dark.
  4. It's a character study about faith in connectedness, with an unforced love for cross-generational companionship that's special indeed.
  5. It is the inventive design of the many creatures that feels so fresh. The detail is so rich, and so dense, that you wish some of the frames would freeze so you had more time for savoring.
