Destroy All Humans! definitely falls under the 'faithful remake' category, with great humour, short and sweet missions, and lots of stuff to blow up. Blowing things up does become repetitive, but it's still a lot of fun.

Although it is essentially a big chunk of downloadable content, with no major aesthetic improvements on the original game, there is plenty of worthwhile action in Xtreme Legends – another mightily fun carve-up from Omega Force.

It is as intense a game as I have played in recent times and I did get close to smashing a few things in frustration – it is as unforgiving as they come. A fast paced, pick-up-and-play, run-and-gun dungeon crawler that may impress the hardcore – if it doesn’t drive them insane.

In Between is a confused puzzle-platformer with some interesting ideas but ultimately, the story held my interest more than the game itself.

A solid space shooter that offers a well-crafted balance between arcade blasting and tactical challenge. Unless you’re a fan of dog-fights and sci-fi, you’re unlikely to give Born Ready’s console port a second glance, but if you’re after a user-friendly blaster with a decent lifespan and enough variety to stave off the tedium often inherent in the genre, then this comes heartily recommended.

Challenging, fast and exciting, AiRace Speed is as fun as it is fast. It’s got that “one more go” factor, and provides a couple of hours of twitch gameplay for less than a fiver.

Despite one or two issues, Mini Motor Racing X is a fast, frantic and fun little game that offers bitesize racing for everyone.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia is a perfectly serviceable fighter, but the story is dull and unexciting, and there's better out there.

Umamusume: Pretty Derby - Party Dash is a decent party game, but some poor events and a lack of tutorials spoil the experience a bit

While interesting iterative improvements can sometimes be greater than the sum of their parts, the in-game economy hampers much of the goodwill that may derive from elsewhere in the game. I shouldn't have to talk about money this much in a basketball game. But in this series, it's become unavoidable. NBA 2K24 feels like a game made by details-obsessed basketball experts unfortunately hamstrung by bottom-line-obsessed executives.

The Curious Expedition is an enjoyable roguelike with a likeable 19th Century setting, humorous writing and lots of content to explore and discover.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is vast and ambitious, but won’t please everyone no matter how hard it tries.

A dated version of FIFA, then, but still a fun one, with plenty to build on for next year.

With its bold new direction, superbly overhauled handling and some of the best, wheel-to-wheel racing out there, Project CARS 3 is a gamble that has resulted in one of the year’s best racers.

Deliver Us Mars is heavily focused on story and exploration, both of which it does fairly well. It’s no thrill-a-minute blockbuster, but fans of the first game will find a lot to like here.

But this is still a game that revels in a party environment. Alone, there’s little to keep you coming back for too long, but after a few drinks, or with the family, Wii Sports continues to provide a good time.

The true BBL story is gripping and an absolute must-play for anyone with an open mind who is a fan of visual novels. The game doesn’t make things obvious, though. I had no idea this route existed until I actually put in the effort to do more endings, and I’d recommend you do the same. If nothing else, it’s nice to see Devolver and Mediatonic bringing something so new and unusual to Steam.

If a group of buddies all chip in Star Rush can be a cheap night or two of fun, but it’s not much more than that.

My Hero One's Justice 2 is an incredibly fun and over the top anime fighting game, with a ton of modes to play. Although there's not been a massive amount of new content added since it's predecessor, the combat is good enough to keep you coming back for more.

Her Majesty’s Spiffing has some of the sharpest, funniest writing I’ve seen in a games and it has the rare accolade of being a point-and-click adventure that follows actual real life logic. But it’s all over far too soon and leaves an unsatisfied feeling with plot threads just left hanging.

If you're not looking for anything particularly original, American Fugitive is a decent adventure with enough good ideas and atmosphere to keep you interested.

Despite some aggressive AI and an unforgiving penalty system, FIA European Truck Racing Championship is a solid and highly enjoyable racing sim.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway isn’t a bad kart racing game, but technical issues and some issues with track design make it hard to recommend to all but the biggest Nickelodeon fans.

Throughout its very short 90 minute run time, Dear Esther creates an atmospheric and engaging experience that begs you to keep playing. If you’ve played it before though, the director’s commentary is all that’s new for the Landmark Edition.
