If it had just stuck to the hidden object part of its name, it could’ve been one heck of a game. Instead, it’s half very good hidden object game, and half thoroughly nonsensical puzzle — and, unfortunately, those two halves don’t quite match up to being a worthwhile whole.- Gaming Age

I’d say that this episode is a pretty great start to the finale of the series for Telltale. It’s been a long, and occasionally bumpy road, but this seems to be shaping up extremely well early on. The cliffhanger for this episode has me anxious to see what happens next, and the new cast of characters are more appealing than most of the hardened jerks that populated The New Frontier. It’ll be interesting to see where things go from here, but again, I’m not holding my breath for a happy ending.- Gaming Age

I’d be lying, of course, if I said that I found the puzzles that compelling. And the fact that they almost always lead to more gore (albeit hand-drawn gore) is more than a little off-putting. But still, if you’re in the mood for a puzzle-platformer/word game that’s different from pretty much everything else out there, Haimrik may be an interesting investment.- Gaming Age

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is an absolute must play for anyone who enjoys that genre at all. As for the Switch version, it is a bit of a mixed bag. If you only own Nintendo consoles and never use anything else, get it. If you are looking to play the game on the go and the Switch is your preferred gaming console, get it. If you have other consoles and you only use your Switch now and then, and want the best experience possible with Wolfenstein II, go a different route and experience it for the first time the way the developers intended.- Gaming Age

I really wish I could say anything positive about Maximum Football 2018. After all, it’s clearly a labour of love, and you hate to say something bad about a game that people have so clearly put their hearts and souls into. But when the end result is something as bad in every conceivable way as this game is, your options for positive words are pretty limited. Maybe one day down the road this franchise may evolve into a worthy Madden alternative, but right now, it’s not even close to being a passable stopgap solution.- Gaming Age

Given the game’s structure will usually lead to short playthroughs, these short sessions won’t feel that empty and with the amount of unlockables means I’ll be playing for quite the while before all the empty jars in the opening area are filled. With this summer having other similar platformers releasing (La-Mulana 2, Iconoclasts, Chasm, Salt and Sanctuary, Death’s Gambit, and Guacamelee 2), Dead Cells definitely will hold its own and it will be in contention to be one of 2018’s finest.- Gaming Age

If you’ve ever wanted to play a JRPG but don’t know where to begin, Rainbow Skies serves as a pretty thorough intro. (And, of course, if you’re already into JRPGs and you need something to sink your next couple of weeks into, it’ll more than serve that function, too.)- Gaming Age

This is a great set of 8 mostly classic Mega Man games and will certainly help get you reacquainted with the Blue Bomber leading up to his more retro return in Mega Man 11. The series started to tale off with the PS2 titles (horrible voice acting mixed with some questionable 2.5D designs), but I would love to see a resurgence in the X series like we did with the OG Mega Man series, just please do it in the 16 bit SNES style.- Gaming Age

Where Zelda is all about combat and the story, Yonder is a much more relaxing experience. It wants you to simply settle into the rhythms of living on the island of Gemea — and it’s a testament to how good it is that, given half a chance, it’ll have no problem sucking you in.- Gaming Age

Tempest 4000 is a fantastic version of a true classic. However, no matter how stunning it looks, or simple it plays it’s definitely not for every gamer out there. Those looking for a legitimate challenge will find it here. Those looking for a deep story or engaging quest will not find anything like that. It’s a simple shooter designed after the tried and true classic Arcade gameplay. Being the Classic Gaming fan that I am, I had an absolute blast playing this, but it might be hard to persuade other gamers to take a look.- Gaming Age

Classic trilogy or not, the idea that you have to sink 40 or 50 hours into a game before it gets really good is kind of insane. By itself (or, I guess, going by the two games included here), Muv-Luv falls a little short of being a must-buy…though, at the same time, if you want to check out the third game (and I do after playing through Muv-Luv Unlimited), it’s probably unavoidable. So — buyer beware.- Gaming Age

Just like you’d expect, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is the complete package on the Switch. It’s a straightforward port with a couple add-one that don’t feel stapled on, but as always the real draw is having a game on a console with more staying power and appeal than the Wii U offered. If you’re not familiar with Captain Toad then definitely check this out, but if you had the game on Wii U then you’ve probably already made up your mind about if you’ll be migrating the recent ports over to the Switch. Either way you cut it, this is a great game and a definitive port.- Gaming Age

I think the reason that Mario Tennis feels like it’s been out of the picture is because Nintendo hadn’t tried to seriously get it online and into the modern era. It seems like this time the game feels fully online with no gameplay issues that I found. It also helps that Aces has the best gameplay of the series so far and if you like party sports games, you really can’t go wrong with this one. The court variety, character selection, and ability to go online with multiple players on one console make Mario Tennis Aces out to be a game with lasting value. If you’ve been waiting for a series return to form well here it is.- Gaming Age

By no means is Omensight a bad game. If you’re into the story and the lore, in fact, I can see being able to overlook the action and the camera — neither is great, but nor are they the worst things ever. What matters most, though, is how well OOTP 19 delivers in terms of giving you full — and I do mean full — control over your favourite baseball franchise. Essentially, I never found myself enjoying The Crew 2. It’s not broken or busted in any major way, but I kept hacking away at the progression in the hopes that something would click and make the core game fun, but that never happens. Hollow could have the most terrifying monsters ever chasing you through its dimly-lit hallways, and it would still suck on account of the fact that said chase would take place at the slowest speed imaginable, and give you ample opportunity to be reminded of what an eyesore it is. The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is a really, really good remaster of a iconic ’90s game series that’s due for a revival. And with three games in the bundle, a remastered cut level from the original game (of which GameShark let you play, back in the day), and a brand-new level with level design and art that make it feel like that revival’s probably in the right hands… I think N. Sane Trilogy, past its inherent issues from the source material, is a great set that’s a no-brainer if you’re looking for some platforming action.- Gaming Age

It’s a satisfying RPG with a steady pace and great gameplay. There are also plenty of sidequests if you want to pursue them, but it’s optional. One thing I really like are the raids which will happen on your little castaway village. These happen throughout the game and you can choose to participate in defending everyone from a monster raid. The big problem with Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly is that it contains a lot of fluff. If you want to advance the story, the game forces you to watch bonus episodes that consist of little more than Beniyuri and co. sitting around the mansion. It adds nothing to the story, and, to make matters worse, you have to replay chapters over and over in order to earn points to unlock the bonus chapters. Unfortunately, even if you think that’s a point in the game’s favour, all the funny interactions and oddball characters in the world can’t hide the fact that Penny-Punching Princess’ action is kind of meh. The game gets points for trying something new, but it would’ve gotten even more if that new thing had actually turned out well.- Gaming Age

League of Evil is still the same old game that made it so much fun all those years ago. The levels are still quick little puzzles for you to feel out and solve, ideally within seconds. The graphics are still heavily indebted to games of earlier eras, as is the plot (which, as the title implies, is all about you taking on a group — a league, if you will — of evildoers). There’s little here that you wouldn’t also see in the likes of Super Meat Boy.- Gaming Age

There’s little in Neurovoider that you wouldn’t be able to get in most other twin-stick shooters…except, of course, for that fantastic soundtrack. If scores were everything, we’d be talking about an all-time classic game. Instead, it’s really more of a niche game, with a soundtrack that you need to go download right this second.- Gaming Age

All things considered, Super Mega Baseball 2 is, as I said, a very, very good arcade baseball game. It may not have the depth of an official MLB game, or the out-of-nowhere shock that made the first game such a pleasant surprise, but it works, and it’s fun. Compared to its competition this year, that makes for a monumental achievement.- Gaming Age

For everyone that’s already very familiar with Dragon’s Crown, I’d say that Pro feels like a worthy re-release even if it’s a bit light overall on extra features. If you’re starting to wind down with something like God of War right now, Dragon’s Crown Pro could easily be a solid addition to your PS4 library next week.- Gaming Age

Rogue Aces is a very good addition to the respective libraries of the Switch and the Vita. It’s not the kind of game that justifies your purchase of either device, but it’s a fun little game that’s a lot of fun to play on the go.- Gaming Age

It’s a shame, then, that such an interesting story and such fantastic designs are kind of wasted on a game that’s basically your standard action-adventure. Sure, you’re exploring a brightly-coloured desert with enemies based on creatures you’d find in northern Mexico, but at the end of the day, you’re just hacking and slashing and throwing spears and, er, magicking at them.- Gaming Age

To be clear, I wouldn’t say that Dragon Sinker is going to blow you away or anything. You should go into it expecting a mostly-generic JRPG, just as you would any other Kemco game. But, like the better JRPGs from that studio, that tiny bit of game that isn’t generic is enough to ensure that JRPG fans looking for their next fix may want to consider it if the price is right.- Gaming Age

It’s a fairly forgettable sequel to a game that, really, wasn’t all that interesting in the first place. It won’t crash your Vita, and I assume that means that your PC or PS4 would be safe as well, but that’s pretty much the highest compliment I can pay the game.- Gaming Age

In some ways, de Blob 2 even improves upon its predecessor. It has a much improved camera, more frequent save points, and cutscenes that don’t show their age, all of which count as plusses in my book. Further, it allows a second player to join in the fun, which is a welcome addition for a game like this one. None of these changes represent massive steps forward, to be sure. But they all contribute towards making de Blob 2 every bit as enjoyable as the original de Blob.- Gaming Age

Extinction Day isn’t worth celebrating, while the game attempts to be ambitious, fails to deliver for Iron Galaxy. It’s just a little too repetitive to hold one’s attention. The 60 dollar price point is extremely hard to swallow given it is a new unproven IP, although I’m not even sure if a lower price point would make the game a more attractive offering.- Gaming Age

Overall, it’s great to see one of my favorite franchises on the Nintendo Switch and able to play anywhere. The load times are frustrating, but if you are playing in burst sessions, it may not be that bad. If you only have a Switch and wanted to play the game, it’s totally worth it, just maybe not as a rebuy for someone that has played already.- Gaming Age

Your enjoyment of Mercenary Kings: Reloaded Edition will still depend to a very large extent on how much you enjoyed games like Metal Slug or Contra. If you didn’t like them before, you’re probably not going to like a game that borrows from significantly. If you did, however, then you can rest easy with this game/homage, knowing that it no longer gets in its own way.- Gaming Age

Burly Men at Sea is most definitely not a bad game by any means. It’s bursting with invention and imagination, in everything from the way you drag the screen around to move the titular burly men, to the music that’s largely built around vocally-created sounds, and all points in between. If you’re looking for a unique experience, Burly Men at Sea offers it — but, at the same time, don’t be shocked if it’s an experience that wears thin before you’ve seen everything the game has to offer.- Gaming Age

It’s not going to wow you with its graphics or anything, but it’s still easy to see how One Eyed Kutkh would be appealing to people who don’t usually play video games. On the one hand, that’s really just another way of saying that if you’re looking for a challenge or something that will wow you, One Eyed Kutkh probably isn’t it. But if you’re an optimist looking for the good news, or if you’re looking for a way to hook someone just starting out with games, there are certainly worse ways to do it than with this one.- Gaming Age

While it’s great that Root Double strives to give players something more than the standard visual novel experience, there’s still something to be said for economy and brevity. I feel like there’s a middle ground between nothing but clichés for a less than ten hours, and requiring 60+ hours to tell a full story, you know? With a good editor, Root Double probably could’ve been great. As it stands, it’s more the kind of visual novel that you’ve really got to be willing to commit to.- Gaming Age

It’s not particularly ambitious, which means that it neither wows you, nor does it ever run the risk of mind-blowingly bad. It’s worth checking out if you need an average platformer, but don’t expect to be thinking about it beyond the few hours it’ll take you to beat it.- Gaming Age

The thing is, point & click adventure is, as a category, much more competitive than hidden object game. It’s great that True Fear: Forsaken Souls – Part 1 tries to be something more than a generic hidden object game, but based on the evidence, they probably shouldn’t have even tried.- Gaming Age

For me, the biggest sign that Deadbolt is worth checking out is that it gets really tough really quickly, but I couldn’t help but go back to it again and again. Seeing as I tend to be allergic to ultra-tough games, that should tell you a lot about its addictive properties. It should also tell you that if you’ve been in the mood for a stealth game that blends action and puzzling, Deadbolt is well worth your time.- Gaming Age
