Beyond the combat though, Total War Battles: Kingdom is a little too familiar for me to give it a hearty recommendation.

If you could do more with your cats, the items they bring you, and the room you all occupy, it’d be a good time. For now, there’s a lot of “look, but don’t touch” going on in the title — though when you think about it, that’s what cats are all about, anyway.

Hammerwatch Coliseum does have potential, but “potential” is about all that’s going for it right now.

I understand the value of game clones that might improve upon or even just contribute to a genre, but sadly, Tesla Tubes just doesn’t live up to its innovative namesake. If you want easy tasks to occupy some time, this game will do the job.

Chesster feels quite awkward and rarely natural. Moving the pieces involves dragging them around, rather than simply swapping, and it’s surprising how such a small tweak can instantly make a game feel more cumbersome.

Dragon Land is a lot of fun, but simultaneously sums up many of the issues with free-to-play.

But despite Timenauts being colorful, character-rich, and at times funny, it’s bland as far as gameplay.

Legacy Quest would have greatly benefited from a unique mechanic that could have been used to set itself apart from other generic dungeon crawlers, but instead, its one trick is just a fancy way of giving the player another opportunity to spend money on the game. Combine that with the clunky menus and all-too familiar gameplay, and dungeon crawling gamers have no shortage of better options on mobile.

With so many uninspired clones and copycats on the App Store, Telepaint is a puzzler that stands apart from the pack in quality.

Figuring out the basics and watching your Tsuro knowledge blossom as you make new connections and figure additional mechanics out is still quite fun, and this is a very well-made title that holds your hand when you need it to and backs off to let you learn on your own.

Able Black still tells a good story, albeit a short one. If you’re into tales about robots with identity issues (and who happen to like Nintendo), Able Black is worth rifling through.

If you’ve never played Retro City Rampage (DX or otherwise), this is as good a place as any to start. Heck, if you already have it on a computer or console it’s not a bad get either, since you’ll be able to enjoy all the goofy anarchy on the go.

DIRAC offers a great presentation, looking really quite stylish for a game that’s solely about joining the dots, but I can’t see it maintaining your attention for long.

As a whole, I don’t think Dungeon Monsters RPG is terrible. It’s a cookie-cutter mobile RPG experience. The developers mostly played it safe, and the one really unique thing the game brought to the table (the torch mechanic) ended up hurting the experience.

As a game, Lost Tracks is pretty, but too simple (and short) to get much enjoyment out of. As a means of telling a brief but meaningful story about a shy boy trying to work up the courage to talk to a girl he likes, it succeeds.

Clash Royale is one of those rare games that not only gets everything right, but does so while trailblazing a new formula for mobile games.

Faily Brakes seems like it ought to be a joyride, but it’s more like taking an awkward stop-and-go trip with your grandmother. It’s not beyond saving, though, and its premise is sound.

Without the dense rules and minute details that these sorts of strategy games usually employ, Super Tribes leaves the door open for players new to the genre to come in and see what the game is all about, hopefully leaving as a fan.

It’s interesting how such a tiny gameplay tweak can make or break such a simple game, but here we are. Slide the Shakes’ perfect timing makes it a great title to go back to repeatedly, even if you’re only playing in short spurts.

It’s satisfying to watch as your skills steadily improve, and its speedy nature means you’re sure to come back for more anytime you’ve got a few minutes spare. Even if it’s just to watch your crash test dummy character fly out of the car, as you hurtle into a barrier for the 100th time.
