Though I still believe there is plenty of room for improvement, and it’s not the kind of game you’re going to want to sink hours of time into, I have to admit that I’m impressed by the hard work of the developers, artists, designers, and programmers that created Ruckus Rumble as students.

[All The Delicate Duplicates’] moments of greatness – often coming from its experimental nature – are too few and far between stages of gratuitous reading and derivative searching. The final experience, marred by playing it just too safe, comes off feeling needlessly short and forgetful.

Blueprint Tycoon just isn’t particularly fun. Without a way to lose, there’s no real challenge… It all just feels like a long, somewhat tedious, tutorial.

Poor sense of humour aside, Kill the Bad Guy is a decent puzzle game that is worth a stab if you are in the mood to be challenged.

For its price, SQUAKE is definitely worth a go if you’re looking for something fun to play in short bursts.

Under the hood Warhammer Quest is a good game – at least for a while. The gameplay loop of killing, looting and upgrading is an enjoyable one; it’s just a shame it gets buried underneath a few negative issues, exacerbated by frustrating controls.

Good concept, but lacking depth and variety’ is probably the best way to describe Legend of the Skyfish.

What [Clouds and Sheep 2] lacks in originality, it more than makes up for enjoyable gameplay.

Blue Collar Astronaut is an experience that is simply devoid of any merit or creativity, and I very much doubt any player will find it at all fair or enjoyable.

The level of difficulty will likely throw casual gamers off, but if you enjoy solving puzzles that will make your brain hurt, then [Induction] might be for you.

The Wild Eternal is simply enchanting. It is unbelievably immersive, incredibly moving, and teaches us all an important lesson in hardship, friendship, and the meanings of life and loss.

With the right crowd and the right mood, you’ll have a lot of laughs and a great time. Use Your Words follows the format of the genre, but is just unique enough to be memorable.

Subjects like life and death can be decidedly hard to tackle, and it is clear what Heaven Forest Nights is attempting to achieve in that it wants its players to think for themselves, go their own way, forge their own path, seek out knowledge, and make decisions without the need for instruction or guidance.

For its asking price of $19.99/£19.99, ArmaGallant feels short on content. Yes, it does offer a unique and polished experience, but with only two maps and one game type to choose from, it almost feels like it should be a free-to-play version of the full title.

In short bursts, it could be a fun diversion, but in the annals of history, Age of Rivals may be a short-lived one.

Baboon! isn’t a bad game per se, but because of its flaws I can only really recommend it to the most die-hard of platform fans looking for a new quirky challenge.

Caveblazers is a solid roguelike that always feels fair and gives players a real challenge to complete. The combat is fast-paced and exciting, and the controls are as tight as you could hope for.

On PlayStation 4 The King of Fighters XIV was impressive, and on PC it’s even more so. Being frank, I think it’s the best 2D fighter out there, all things considered.

In my eyes, MotoGP 17 is the best instalment of Milestone’s MotoGP efforts yet. The Managerial Career really adds a great deal to the package, and the racing itself keeps you on the edge of your seat due to its authenticity.

The few interesting ideas Zombeer has with regards to art-style, setting and voice talent, are all squandered due to an overall lack of presentation and polish.

Bar some buggy controls and slightly mediocre gameplay, it might have been an enjoyable blast of nostalgia… But Starfighter Origins flaunts its influences so brazenly that it’s difficult, no matter how much I tell myself that it was made by a small team of indie devs, not to compare it to those giants of the genre.

If you love classics like Streets of Rage or Double Dragon and long for the arcade cabinet experience of the past, Kung Fury could be what you’re looking for, but its short length, frustrating mechanics and lack of variety really hold it back.

For fans of the long-running series, buying King of Fighters ’99 on the Nintendo Switch should be a no-brainer. It’s a great game given new life on a new platform – what isn’t there to love?

ICY: Frostbite Edition is a distinctly average title. It definitely has its moments, particularly when you stumble into the game’s stranger locations and end up having to deal with a colossal mutant tree or similar horror. Plus, never knowing whether you’re “right” is a wonderfully unsettling sensation. But you’re still left with a narrative that fails to draw you in, an oddly out of place combat system and a superficial survival mechanic, making gameplay middling at best.

Though it has some minor issues that undoubtedly hold it back a little, Sine Mora EX is a fantastic side-scrolling shooter, cram-packed with enough content to keep you playing in the long term. The high level of difficulty may be off-putting for those who aren’t overly familiar with the genre, but those who persist will find a game that looks great, sounds great and is ultimately very rewarding.

If you’re a fan of tower defence games, then you’ll likely enjoy the fun elements that Rock of Ages 2 injects into an otherwise fairly dry genre. It’s much better as a local co-op experience, but if you do jump into the single player, you’ll at least get a guffaw or two out of the wacky cut-scenes. It’s just a shame that the same amount of character and personality don’t run over into the actual gameplay.

Ultimately, because of Reaching for Petals‘ short running time, it feels more like a tech demo than an actual, fully-formed video game experience. It’s more of a showcase of “just look what the Unreal Engine can do!” than anything else. I guess, being Blue Entropy Studios’ first game, in some ways it is a tech demo. The team has demonstrated their incredible ability, and it leaves me excited for what may come next with a little more experience under their belt. But while Reaching for Petals may be impressive visually, there’s just not enough there to make it truly worthwhile.
