Ginsha is a must-play for any fan of classic metroidvania titles. The game takes a hardcore approach with next to no guidance that can scare off less experience players, but its surprising depth and boundless exploration of wonderfully crafted sci-fi world more than make up for the occasional spike of difficulty.

The versatile mirror mechanic along with the well designed puzzles and the devilishly twisted level help make Ugly a game that is well worth the time of any puzzle fan. If you enjoyed The Swapper or Braid, this should be right up your alley.

Even with some performance issues, Death Stranding Director's Cut on iPhone and iPad remains an adventure that blends a strange story, extraordinary characters and often slow gameplay into something special that is captivating and unique in a way that only Kojima can achieve.

Please, Touch the Artwork 2 is a very well done mix between art and a point-and-click adventure. By no means does it re-invent the genre, but the simple puzzles are fun and the presentation really make the game stand out and are at the same time a central gameplay mechanic.

Crayola Adventures is an Apple Arcade title that offers the player a lot of creative freedom. It is an experimental game in many regards, but one that has so much heart and soul that it‘s easy to fall in love with.

Rogue-Like and seemingly luck-based gameplay doesn‘t sound like a good match, but the developers fine-tuned it so that you never feel completely out of control, but are always on edge. If you are looking for a Rogue-Like with a fresh take, Slice & Dice is certainly worth checking out.

As a child, did you also like building towers and houses out of wooden blocks - only to tear them down with catapults and battering rams? "Abriss - Build to Destroy" serves exactly this feeling, adding the challenge of having to construct the destruction devices first. A game with brutalist architecture, spectacular graphics and an awesome electronic soundtrack.

Perish has more style than substance. The amazing soundtrack and a neat selection of different weapons can’t hide the middling gameplay that lacks any meaningful way to build your character during a run. The repetitive nature of the runs become boring fast while the impressive boss fights are genuinely fun.

SoLA is a brilliant addition to Dead Island 2. The music festival it is set in, combined with the new weapons and enemy types build on what made the main game very successful already. The DLC fits perfectly into an ongoing playthrough of the game or adds a neat little experience for players who have already seen the credits of the game itself.

Despite being a F2P title, Astra: Knights of Veda doesn't push you nearly as hard towards microtransactions as some of it competitors. Instead, it manages to captivate players with its RPG gameplay loop as well as with its gorgeous presentation.

Ghost Trick has been somewhat of a cult classic for well over a decade at this point, and for good reason. Just like with the Ace Attorney series by the same creator, Ghost Trick is a prime example of why point and click mystery adventures are such a timeless genre.

The Night of the Rabbit is classic in two senses: a classic adventure game that is clearly modeled on Alice in Wonderland. The result is graphically outstanding, narratively convincing, but not very innovative in terms of gameplay.

Braid Anniversary Edition is the best version of a game that was already great. Engrossing and genius puzzles, amazing soundtrack, inventive game mechanics and a story that is deeper than one might at first think, Braid has it all.

Although Dicey Dungeons+ is not a new game, its core gameplay loop and the lighthearted and colorful presentation hold up very well and make this a game absolutely worth experiencing in 2024.

Both the jokes and puns as well as most of the puzzles can be enjoyed by people of almost all ages. Duck Detective: The Secret Salami offers a short narrative that doesn’t overstay its welcome and is for the most part very engaging for two to three hours. The English voicecast is fantastic but with the text only being available in English as well it’s unfortunately not accessible all around the world.

The fascinating and addicting core mechanic of arranging a backpack as efficient as possible to fight in turn based combat is marvelous. It carries a lot of the weight because most other aspects of Backpack Hero are mediocre at best. Navigating the menus is slow and unintuitive, the city building is mostly boring and the font for dialogue almost hurts our eyes. Skipping the story mode and just doing quick runs might be the way to go to get as much enjoyment out of the game as possible.

With Return to Monkey Island+ coming to Apple Arcade, there is now one less excuse to not play this gem of a game in the legendary series. While the graphical style drew some criticism, there is no denying that Ron Gilbert and his team have delivered what fans were hoping for.

Resident Evil 7 was a return to form for the franchise, and while one could argue that a horror game is best experienced on a big screen, being able to carry this horror masterpiece around in your pocket has a charm of its own.

As a package Super Woden GP II is an absolute love letter to the last three decades of racing games. It offers smooth and fun racing as well as a ton of tracks and cars. It is old-school by design, with all its pros and cons. Thankfully the gameplay is as good as it is because the menus are frankly a bit of a mess and the AI of the other drivers is stubborn and destructive. Yet it is a great racing game for a low price from a clearly talented developer that loves the genre, warts and all.

While Punch Club 2: Fast Forward doesn't stray too far from the first game in terms of its core mechanics, it doesn't need to. The unusual gameplay loop , the entertaining story and the charming pixel graphics combine into a package that is well worth taking a closer look at.

The simple yet addictive roguelike-gameplay predictably works as good as ever in the Apple Arcade version of this indie hit. If you have yet to play the game, Vampire Survivors+ is a great place to do so with the lack of any in-game monetization and the inclusion of 2 DLCs.

The core gameplay loop is entertaining enough. The nonstop action feels fun and the pixel-art is gorgeous. Unfortunately the gameplay is brought down by the awkward feeling wall jump mechanic, too much repetition and boring bosses. With that said you can spend your money on much worse things and if you fancy a bit of nostalgia you’ll have some fun with Speedollama.
