However, Brink is unified by its art direction, its smooth presentation and a fine user interface. Even if the maps lack some visual variety, their structure is incredibly difficult to fault. Players who can look past the hyperbole and ignore the fat will find underneath a sleek, highly refined multiplayer shooter long on balance and tactical gameplay.

Some stunning visuals and audio mixed with an enjoyable multiplayer experience is quickly forgotten as the poorer design choices found in Capcom’s Lost Planet sequel impair what might have been a great experience.

For new players, H.A.W.X. 2 offers the ability to jump right in and take the fight to the skies, but if you've never been a fan of this genre before, H.A.W.X 2 won't do enough to change your opinion.

A well-rounded action title with elements of strategy, traditional hack and slash, and arcade action.

Space Hulk: Tactics is probably the best video game adaption of the classic board game yet, with decent presentation and some welcome additions. But the faithfulness of its adaption only highlights the limited tactics offered by the board game's basic setup, and its lower budget makes for a lack of polish in some areas. Strategy buffs may be diverted for a bit, but won't fall in love.

While majorly different from ‘traditional’ Pokémon fare, Shadows of Almia provides a satisfying RPG-lite adventure for players of all ages. Varied puzzles and a wide range of Diamond/Pearl era creatures to chase give the game widespread appeal and charm.

This was a title we'd all desperately wanted to see perform well, and while the core game does offer a lot of entertainment, it's frustrating to imagine what could have been if only Eden had a bit more vision. It's clear that if there's to be another edition to the series, it's going to need some serious work in order to remain relevant.

The developers at Relentless Software have put a huge effort into ensuring the franchise gets a worthy portable version. It isn't going to set the world on fire, but as far as hand-held quiz shows go, this has to be at the top of the list.

The switch to three dimensions hobbles rather than helps Trine 3. In the wake of the first two excellent entries in the series, it can only be considered a disappointment.

Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl Gold falls short in most areas with it's dull, monotonous gameplay. Repetitive missions and gameplay lead to this one wearing out it's welcome after a few short hours, despite having lots of content.

Fable Anniversary is a worthy game and sure to appeal to fans of the original, but sub-HD cut-scenes, a jumpy camera and a poor targeting system indicate this re-release didn't get the full attention it deserved.

A fast paced, fluid tennis simulation. The steep learning curve will put off those wanting a quick, arcade tennis bash, but if you take the time to learn the game it is a rewarding, fun experience.

Some great concepts and even an original feature or two. This is a solid RPG, but ultimately not one you'll remember six months down the track.

Outlast 2 is more of an ordeal than the first, in terms of content but also gameplay. The story provides some momentum, but trial and error sequences will see many succumb to frustration (and many large pick axes).

Another excellent addition to the host of downloadable games available today. A great puzzle title that is innovative and different, as well as cute and entertaining. A host of levels, and an in-depth level editor mean you will have hours and hours of puzzle fun herding barnyard animals.

An unnecessary retread of one of last year's great titles. While still retaining much of the Xbox 360 version's features, it lacks any of the extra polish and content that the additional time in development could've brought.

There is no doubt Lollipop Chainsaw is heavily marketed to be an indulgent romp through pop culture and appeal to our baser sensibilities. But once the façade of plastic fantastic is stripped away the game has to survive on basic combo repetitions and mediocre game play.

Sniper Elite V2 has includes many enjoyable and memorable sequences. It's just a shame that it these moments are so padded out. When Karl is at the top of a ruined church shattering skulls from 200 metres, the game soars, but sadly transitioning to these instances is too often a chore. Let's hope any third game in the series adds better stealth gameplay to complement the sniping mechanics and presentation that Sniper Elite V2 does so well.

SOCOM: Special Forces isn't an epic single-player game, but it's not trying to be. The plot is mostly predictable but better told than the same story in other shooters, and the glitches are surprisingly absent when you take the game online. It's very obviously oriented towards the multiplayer experience, so if that's what you're after, this is one of the most enjoyable and complete tactical combat experiences in the current console generation.

Web of Shadows is an improvement over previous Spider-Man titles, but still lacks the punch we expect from such a popular movie-based intellectual property. A poorly told story coupled with mediocre and often repetitive action sequences have thwarted this titles chances of blockbuster glory this Christmas.

Doom 3 BFG is great value, considering everything that is included. But as a stand-alone HD remake of Doom 3, it's slightly disappointing, despite the inclusion of a whole new mission. Just a little more polish would have made this a must-have just for Doom 3 itself. Thankfully its two predecessors are along to provide some added value.
