Drawing inspiration from series such as Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing, Rune Factory 4 may not stand out for its plot but its gameplay mechanics are more than rewarding. The long lasting contents and different options are set to keep the players closely connected with the game for a long time and even though the initial phase may drag itself for too long, what follows is a plentiful and involving JPRG.

The Legend of Dark Witch is a fun and very challenging shooting game which picks up a healthy amount of ideas from classic titles. Despite occasional camera flaws and a somewhat repetitive level design, this is an experience that is set to appeal to a crowd which takes great pleasure in shooting down enemies.

Riding Star 3D is a collection of failed experiences, repetitive challenges, flawed controllers and outdated graphics. It's hard to see how this game brings any added value to the 3DS catalogue, as all its elements are simply unworthy of exploring.

Fairune is an appealing and fun effort, full of interesting and addicting puzzles which is set to capture the attention of fans of the 8-bit generation and beyond.

Shiny the Firefly may have an excellent artwork but it immediately becomes a dull and repetitive experience that fails to captivate or pose a significant challenge. Based on the game's art, this could be taken further and into more promising fields but faced with a gameplay that is all but compelling and interesting, there is little choice left other than leave Shine the Firefly in the (digital) shelf.

Picross e5 is a good starting point if you’re a newcomer to the series or if you’re already a Picross fanatic looking for your next puzzle fix. However, because Jupiter Games didn’t even try to bring anything new to the table this time around, those looking for some innovation in this version will most likely end up disappointed.

Three excellent games with a fantastic plot, embroiling difficulty and humour-filled moments in a one-game package make this a fundamental title in the handheld’s catalogue.

It's baffling how Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric draws inspiration from such good sources but fails at delivering almost everything it promises. Burdened by technical problems, a lackluster plot, confusing exploration mechanics and empty settings, Rise of Lyric needed a complete overhaul before being released.

A beat’em up in the style of what was done in the early 90s but which is not fluid at all, has a faulty and dull gameplay and overall is simply not fun does not carve its own space in the Wii U’s online lineup.

Nintendo’s first downloadable content for Mario Kart 8 is a welcome addition that can rekindle the players’ dedication to the game. Pushing for more contents from outside the Mario universe is a very good idea and expectations are high for the next DLC batch.

The new Just Dance 2015 brings what the audience expects: a large musical assortment, along with fun and creative choreographies. Where this game does not stand out is on its variety, as it lacks significant improvements and additions to its experience, possibly as a consequence of a release policy that produces one Just Dance title per year.

Its blend of platforms and puzzles and the way the game was spawned from Super Mario 3D World are very well executed and the overall atmosphere of the title is extremely creative and likely to keep players around it for a long time.

Jett Tailfin may seem like a decent proposal, given its Mario Kart inspiration and the amount of tracks, characters and background...but this quickly gets lost in a sea of faulty controls, a camera which does more harm than good, frequent slowdowns, poor artificial intelligence and a shoddy visual environment.

Unfortunately, the extra time it took to get on the Wii U did not lead to improvements over the other versions and some technical issues remain unaddressed.

Costume Quest 2 starts on the right foot and quickly puts the player at the centre of a light-hearted narrative along with the colourful displays that adds an immediate appeal. As the adventure goes on, however, expectations start to fade as the game becomes too repetitive. Its challenges become less compelling and customization options too limited which goes against what a solid RPG should stand for.

Bringing back all that made older classics into unforgettable games and pushing aside all their technology constraints using modern methods of game design, Shovel Knight is the perfect flagship of a piece of retrgaming made in the 21st century.

The most experienced players will be delighted with this and its customization options and online modes are very welcome elements. Nevertheless, not all the new elements are to be praised and there’s an overall lack of innovation in a title that sticks to its job as an anniversary game and not much more.

Paper Monsters Recut is one such example of a graphically charming and long-lasting 2D platformer with 3D backgrounds and with simple and intuitive gameplay mechanics. Its difficulty level and soundtrack could use some improvements, which does not take any appeal away from this piece of gaming.

Tetrabot and Co. rightfully deserves more exposition in the Wii U’s eShop catalogue. This is a fun, challenging and intuitive puzzle game, topped by a brilliant level design that is set to keep players glued to the (very well implemented) control system for a long time.

Tengami brings forth the ever-more present question of where does art end and the game begin, or vice-versa. A stunning looking graphical environment and an involving soundtrack do not make up for a slow and dull pace, a very limited gameplay and the lack of experience for the player.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U may not correspond exactly to what everyone was yearning but this does not take the spotlight away from Nintendo's flagship brawler. Players should not be deceived by Ittle Dew's apparent similarities with The Legend of Zelda series. The references are merely for comic and background effect and this is, in reality, a very satisfying puzzle game that will delight those with enough mental energy to invest their time on it.

Just Dance 2015 shows why releasing an annual delivery of this series was not the best of ideas. This does not mean the game is not fun, as it boasts the best soundtrack of the Just Dance franchise, but the short number of new elements and breakthroughs makes this feel like a half-way release which would have been significantly better with more investment in its contents.

Rather than the classic tension buildup, climax and return to an apparent normality, Lone Survivor prefers to let the players question themselves constantly over what is real and what is not and not giving them the chance to feel safe once the worst seems to be over. A magnificent and intriguing effort, worth of all attention by those brave enough to explore it.

Disney Magical Life may seem like it follows the path of other similar games but it creates its own personality as it grows. It’s always a joy to see the most memorable Disney characters in an interactive form and the exquisite way they are portrayed only adds to the game’s appeal.

Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones is a sequel that goes beyond the original and understands that a puzzle game needs to be more than just a collection of levels that have to be finished. Its varied mechanics and a (decorative but inspired) storyline make this a worthy title in the Wii U’s catalogue, for both fans of puzzle games and curious minds alike.
