Long-time veterans of the series will enjoy the new puzzles in this entry while newcomers will benefit from the game's progressive difficulty curve and three different difficulty levels. While Picross e7 does little to distinguish itself apart from its predecessor, it's certainly competent at its job and worthy of hands on.

Bringing a 2D shooter into the contemporary world means that more recent players will get to experience a style that was extremely popular in earlier days, while more experienced players will get to add one more title to their background. Ghost Blade HD is visually stunning and jumps immediately into action, only falling short of expectation on its length and soundtrack but this is definitely a work that is worth getting hands on.

When a regular flow is required to keep the player's attention, Plantera will often fail at this, which will leave its players somewhat frustrated and disappointed with what the game offers.

There are plenty of SRPGs in the 3DS but Mercenaries Saga 3 can stand on its own feet thanks to several unique gameplay elements that are certain to appeal to fans of the genre as well as to followers of the series. While its plot could benefit from some more depth that would bring it closer to the players, this is an overall competent and complex game, with involving combats, rich visuals and a lifespan that will keep players clinging on to it until the end.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a monument of a game, a dense, rich, enveloping and challenging adventure that puts the players on the mercy of their wits from the very beginning and introduces survival variables and item management as something to take very seriously throughout the entire quest. Bringing much needed innovations while remaining fully loyal to the Zelda series, Breath of the Wild is a masterpiece and a dream come true that has undoubtedly earned its place among the greatest games ever made.

Mini Golf Resort may boast a large amount of content in the form of holes, trophies, outfits, clubs and whatnot but this is not matched by the game's quality, which falls way below expectations. A lack of creativity in level design, camera problems and an overall poor audiovisual experience make this game passable and under performing, despite the amount of content provided.

While Geki Yaba Runner Deluxe is competent at what it proposes and does not fail at delivering a gameplay that responds well to the player's inputs, it also falls short of treading new ground or standing out from the crowd.

Toby: The Secret Mine brings some challenging puzzles in the midst of an outstanding visual environment but its very short lifespan ends up harming it way more than it should, as the game will be finished very quickly and offers little replay value when compared to other options in the 2D platforming style that will appear more attractive.

The Shantae series reinvents itself and in Half-Genie Hero we find a healthy renovation that took a risk and it paid off, as this game brings very welcomed variety and a new visual and animation style. Half-Genie Hero will fit very well both with Shantae followers and with those who appreciate a good platforming experience, complete with backtracking elements.

It's difficult for a port to reach the level of the original, more so when the original is for a more advanced system, but Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World does just that. Even if it doesn't introduce groundbreaking elements compared to the original game behind it, this platforming gem does everything we can expect and more thanks to its marvelous graphics, challenging nature and lifespan.

Taking full use of the touch screen and 3D capabilities of Nintendo's handheld, this new chapter in the series is well presented and reaches that right balance between simplicity and challenge. Something for everyone who enjoys having a good mental stimulation in the form of a puzzle game.

Back to Bed can stand on its own thanks to its magnificent visual environments drawn from (and by) Salvador DalĂ and M.C. Escher, which adds a layer that is rarely seen in games. Unfortunately its low difficulty level leaves the impression that the game is not finished, which adding to a rather short lifespan makes this a disappoint experience.

Unlucky Mage is simple enough to allow for an intuitive gameplay and a rather long lasting lifespan but it doesn't fulfill its job completely and its overall simple nature end up harming the game in the end.

Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure does not aim to reinvent the wheel and it certainly couldn't aspire to that with its struggling camera and often imprecise jumping, which make the experience more time-consuming than it should, but this doesn't erase an accessible plot and long-lasting gameplay, once the game's dynamics set in.

SteamWorld Heist is a stunning work that combines RPG, strategy and accurate aiming in a steampunk space environment that will put the player at the centre of a plot that is heavy in humour and which features a wonderful visual environment, as well as a soundtrack that fits perfectly within the game's universe.

It goes too far on the price tag, which is way too high for a game with the contents of Teslapunk and which creates expectations that end up not being a met in a game that despite its fun aspect, could very well be much better.

Cartoon Network: Battle Crashers could have been a more appealing game thanks to the use of popular characters from Cartoon Network shows but unfortunately, none of this is fully explored as the game features a gameplay that pales next to any other game of the kind and the high price demanded for it only harms the game's standing even more, making it impossible to recommend to anyone.

Ninja Pizza Girl features interesting gameplay mechanics, by adding parkour techniques to what would be overall a mundane activity while including awareness for the problem of bullying. It doesn't fully succeed at getting that message across, however, and the game could certainly use improvements to its visual and audio components, as well as more variety to the repetitiveness of its levels.

Dragon Quest VIII may have been around for a while but the 3DS is getting what can be the ultimate version of this cult RPG. Featuring a stunning audiovisual environment, an immersion that will plunge the players into the game's setting and new content that sets it apart from previous incarnations of the same chapter, Dragon Quest VIII: The Journey of The Curse King is setting the threshold very high for upcoming RPGs.

Noitu Love: Devolution is an action sidescroller that is full of action and that makes a good use of the 3DS and Wii U controls at delivering it. Its action might get too confusing at times but that is a small price to pay for a game that is rich in content and beautifully crafted, even if a bit short at times.

For all its rather interesting puzzles, Soul Axiom does not manage to stand out due to its sub-par level design and overall unappealing gameplay. The game also needs a technical overhaul, as its drops in framerate can often harm the moment and its lack of immersion will keep the players from developing a keener interest.

Morbid details and shocking sights aren't everyone's cup of tea but for the players who are into horror, Corpse Party will be a blessing in the 3DS catalogue. Even if its gameplay will lose its effect after a while and become a bit repetitive, the game's dialogues, plot and audiovisual environments will keep the players focused for long periods of time, especially with the purpose of reaching that one good ending (which will require some effort).

Despite its visual appeal, however, the game takes a very long time to fully take over the player's experience, as its exploration becomes monotonous and its difficulty level is cranked up way too high. A more fine tuned level design would be very welcome here, as Exile's End feels like a rather unfulfilled promise.

Any doubts that could still be lingering about Nintendo's first production for the mobile segment have been dissipated: Super Mario Run is a marvelous 2D platformer which Nintendo adapted to the guise of an endless runner, in order to make it more playable in a mobile device. Its beautiful graphics, overall fluidity and loyalty to the Mario universe make this one memorable 2D platformer that no fan should go without, provided they can always be connected to the internet when playing, that is.

Kingdom’s Item Shop may have a rather interesting concept but the action is so repetitive that it quickly becomes a tedious chore. Overall the game lacks challenge and achieves little with its unusual premise, which could have taken the game in a different direction, were it not for an overwhelming feeling of repetitiveness that quickly takes over everything.

While Twisted Fusion does feature some interesting ideas at the level of its gameplay concepts, the game ends up falling flat on its face due to an overall poor execution. In some moments, Twisted Fusion is even borderline unplayable, which coupled with its subpar visual environment, an enormous amount of bugs that should not have passed quality control and low precision platforming, lead to a game that needed a serious reworking before being made available.

    Ash
ASH tries hard to pay tribute to turn-based RPGs of the 1980s and 1990s...so hard that it doesn't realize that genres evolve for a reason. This game is mostly stuck on a sea of obsolescence and not even its well-written dialogues can add a different flair to a production that does poorly in nearly every other aspect.

Just Dance 2017 keeps the tradition of being the best game in the dancing style. Featuring a new musical selection and the same upbeat gameplay as before, Just Dance proves that it deserves the recognition of being the best party game out there. For the next chapter, a renewal featuring brand new gaming modes would be very welcome, as keeping the same formula could start to become repetitive in the long term.

Armikrog is a point & click game that features remarkable stop motion animation in a world made of clay and with a consistent level design. Despite these points in its favour, Armikrog could make a more extensive use of its characters and rely less on memorizing its puzzles by heart, something which the players will find themselves doing too often thanks to the lack of leads or hints in the game.

Sadly the scope for this game is severely limited by the lack of online sharing of levels, which was one of the main qualities of the original and overall this feels like a downgrade. It's still an appealing title and it succeeds in what it offers but it's impossible not to shrug off a certain sense of disappointment.
