Hades II is a benchmark for the genre. The story, characters, writing, and art direction exceed the expectations set by the original Hades. Further, the new gameplay mechanics and the addition of a second area make for a game that can keep you occupied for dozens of hours without ever getting boring. While the ending is extremely disappointing, I can confidently recommend Hades II to everyone, regardless of whether you've played other entries in the genre or not.- Final Weapon

BlazBlue Entropy Effect X is a great roguelite action game that pays homage to the BlazBlue series while delivering an intriguing storyline, engaging mechanics, and a fair level of challenge. The updated release builds on the foundation of BlazBlue Entropy Effect and brings new features that will keep players playing after the original storyline. Although cross-play and an English dub are missing, BlazBlue Entropy Effect X is an experience that fans won't want to miss.- Final Weapon

Nearly three decades later, the gameplay of Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World still holds up. And perhaps more importantly, it reminds us that there’s something timeless about a hero or heroine who never wavers in the face of danger.- Final Weapon

Patapon 1+2 Replay is a nostalgic blast from the past and features many upgrades from the original titles, including difficulty and latency sliders. While the story is light and the timing can be strict, this re-release manages to capture the charm of the originals while updating the games to stand alongside other modern titles, making Patapon 1+2 Replay a must-own for fans of the series.- Final Weapon

Ruffy and the Riverside is a 3D platformer from Zockrates Lab. It is inspired by platformers of the late 90s and early 2000s and wears that inspiration on its sleeve. It wears that inspiration well, though, and offers not only a game that fits on the shelf with its inspirations but one that is able to stand out as well. A short but fun time that is a must-play for any fan of the genre, or anyone that grew up with it.- Final Weapon

SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance looks to revive the long-dormant Shinobi series after an almost fifteen-year hiatus. Developer Lizardcube brings Joe Musashi back into the limelight in one of the most stunning-looking games of the year, which is sure to make longtime fans of the series happy. Although there are a few stumbles along the way and design choices that I wish had been ironed out more, SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is a great game that will hopefully kickstart this series back to life and work as a building block for future titles to come.- Final Weapon

Lies of P: Overture largely retains the quality of the base game, if not improving upon it in some aspects. While it isn't particularly experimental, it is more Lies of P, and it proves why that isn't a bad thing in the slightest.- Final Weapon

The Yakuza franchise makes a great debut on Nintendo Switch 2 with Yakuza 0: Director's Cut, the definitive version of the 2015 Yakuza prequel from the PlayStation 4. Yakuza 0: Director's Cut offers several new cutscenes, the new Red Light Raid multiplayer mode and English voice-overs, which are all on top of an already great action game with a captivating story. Although the cutscenes can be hit or miss, and players who already own Yakuza 0 may have already had their fill, the game is a great time on Switch 2, thanks to its solid 4K and 1080p 60 FPS performance.- Final Weapon

Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian brings the beloved series back to its roots. With charming visuals, classic alchemy mechanics, and a cozy yet engaging story, it feels like a love letter to longtime fans—though its safe approach may not surprise everyone.- Final Weapon

Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse is a masterclass in atmosphere, successfully blending Japanese folklore with a "summer horror" aesthetic that keeps you uneasy from beginning to end. While the lack of voice acting and slow opening hours may prevent some players from truly enjoying this game, The Mermaid's Curse is a great visual novel that honors its predecessor’s legacy while offering something new.- Final Weapon

Ys Memoire: Revelations in Celceta is a great entry point into the Ys series as it explores a lot of lore of Adol’s childhood and reinforces his inalienable drive as an adventurer. For Ys fans who somehow haven’t played Celceta yet, I certainly recommend Ys Memoire: Revelations in Celceta since it’s such an important game full of world-building and character development for Adol.- Final Weapon

Million Depth is another great example of the malleability of roguelike and roguelite games. Instead of following the same cliches as other titles in the genre, it chooses to follow the paths laid by visual novels and real-time strategy games to great success. The story is compelling thanks to a charming cast of characters and three different timelines to dive into, and the gameplay is addictive because of the abundance of unique mechanics to unravel. While there are some issues with story progression, if you're a fan of roguelike games, then Million Depth is a must-buy for you.- Final Weapon

While I never had that phase where I was obsessed with skateboarding and Tony Hawk as a kid, Skate Story managed to trigger an element of nostalgia with its carefully crafted use of both style and substance. I can only hope that Sam Eng has more content to add to the experience at a later time, but for now, I’ll just settle for listening to the Blood Cultures soundtrack on loop.- Final Weapon

Moments of backtracking should’ve been cut down, but most segments ended before they became a problem. Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale, while short, is packed to the brim with charm, passion, and heart. This is an adventure I will be thinking about for quite a while.- Final Weapon

Romeo is a Dead Man isn’t without its flaws. Performance issues can disrupt gameplay, repetition can occasionally take you out of segments, and some gameplay sections can get incredibly tedious. But in the end, these stumbles give way to a wacky and confident vision that carried me through the credits with a smile on my face. The fact that I still can’t stop thinking about it says enough in itself, and I suspect fans will be raving about Romeo for years to come.- Final Weapon

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is an excellent strategy RPG that follows the same aesthetics and themes of the Danganronpa series while being an entirely different game and IP. The game offers a straightforward combat system that's easy to pick up and play while offering some challenging battles. In addition, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy brings an intriguing and eccentric cast of characters with a compelling narrative and shock value at some points of the story.- Final Weapon

No, I'm Not a Human is a psychological horror game that transforms paranoia into gameplay, where deciding who to trust becomes a matter of life and death. Its uncanny visuals, suffocating sound design, and ambiguous interactions are perfect for creating tension that any horror fan will love. While its save system and repetition can frustrate, the game’s paranoia lingers long after you stop playing.- Final Weapon

If you have a Switch 2 and have been looking for a great-looking action-adventure game to keep you occupied until the next mainline Legend of Zelda game, then Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a must-buy. After playing it for myself, I’m now even more excited for the upcoming sequel, Kena: Scars of Kosmora.- Final Weapon

The battles may feel slow at times, and the leveling system can take some time to learn. However, SaGa Frontier 2 manages to reward you no matter your skill level. This is a gem that I hope any RPG fan will check out, as it truly is worth your time. The world of SaGa is ever-expanding, and I’m just glad to have yet another entry available on modern platforms.- Final Weapon

To stand out from the crowd, Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree take a few risks. Some pay off immensely, while others fall a bit flat. This is definitely one worth checking out if you're looking for a fast-paced combat system with a Shinto mythology-inspired story. However, if you're keen on experiencing the game in co-op, it's best to err on the side of caution.- Final Weapon

Koira is a magical adventure that I adored from beginning to end. While the game’s bugs did detract somewhat from the overall experience, if you’re looking for a cozy experience that you can beat within a few hours, then this is the game for you. If you need more convincing, you can also pet the dog, which is always a plus. I can’t wait to see what other games Studio Tolima has planned because this is a fantastic start.- Final Weapon

The puzzles may be obtuse at times, and even the help that we do get might not be what we expect. However, that makes everything more true to life. Many times, I felt like I was Debbie in her predicament, getting frustrated over a puzzle I was close to solving. Despite that, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Your House and Debbie will stick with me for a long time.- Final Weapon

At its best, Tokyo Xtreme Racer delivers racing thrills like no other game will. Battling at high speeds while weaving through traffic gets the heart pounding. This new entry doesn't bring too much new to the table, but it never had to anyway. It's a solid modern conversion of old gameplay ideas.- Final Weapon

The First Berserker: Khazan is a truly great hardcore action RPG that fans of the genre owe it to themselves to play. While I did feel some fatigue after fighting many spiders, skeletons, and zombies, I still kept coming back for more. Some fantastic boss fights, a satisfying sense of progression, an intriguing story, and a stellar soundtrack make this an easy recommendation.- Final Weapon

Admittedly, there are a couple rough creases here that need some addressing, with the lightning issue and some systems definitely needing a bit more polish, but overall, this is the best chance you’ll get if you want to get into the Atelier series of games. REANIMAL is a beautiful horror journey that uses subtlety to its advantage. The lack of dialogue and cutscenes is traded for worldbuilding, while the gameplay highlights more thrilling chases rather than action-packed combat. Both are used to great effect, even in spite of some major issues with exploration and a few glitches here and there. If you're a fan of the horror genre, Little Nightmares, or have a friend to play with, though, REANIMAL is a must-buy.- Final Weapon

I went into DAMON and BABY with almost no experience in twin-stick shooters, but it ended up being a genuinely fun and charming surprise that kept me coming back. While the story and some mechanics feel undercooked, and losing progress can be frustrating, the combat, customization, and overall journey easily carry the experience. It’s not perfect, but it left me smiling by the end and excited to see where Arc System Works goes next.- Final Weapon
