Fusing together the fundamental elements of both titles for Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney works seamlessly and the combination of characters working as partners in each other's usual settings is truly joyous to behold.

Forgetting the length and replay value, Stick It to the Man is a unique title full of harmless fun, which is more than welcomed in a world overpopulated by shooters and action games.

Governor of Poker isn't a bad game, but it's not a good one, either. The concept of taking over the entirety of Texas by winning games of poker is quite cool, but it's a tedious grind against loads of AI opponents that couldn't care less about making risky moves, simply because there's no risk involved for them.

Far from being the most challenging game around, its demographic of younger gamers could get many hours of enjoyment out of this one for a small price if it was able to even bring a few smiles to some boring game reviewer's mouth through its occasional clever design.

Treasure-like in its level of sheer ingenuity, Dakko Dakko's Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails is the sort of addictive shooter that is a must-own for Wii U owners and belies its initially brief appearance in the length stakes.

After two decades of racing, the Mushroom Kingdom crew have come together in a package that ticks a lot of positive boxes - tight controls, exceptional course designs, brilliant music and plenty of scope for high-octane online/local races and battles. Quite simply, Mario Kart 8 is absolutely sublime and the best overall installment im the series so far.

The main story encourages players to go through stages several times in order to discover all the secrets and collect every possible extra, but on top of that there is the mini-Smash Bros. - aka Kirby Fighters - included for some exhilarating battle fun, as well as the reaction-based musical treat of Dedede's Drum Dash.

Overall, it is easy and intuitive for newcomers, with elements of added depth for veterans.

Child of Light is a great first step into the genre for Ubisoft and a thoroughly enjoyable experience overall. It takes the classic Active Time Battle system and puts a twist on it with the Timeline mechanic. The presentation is top notch and sure to generate some interest in the game all on its own.

It's just a shame that the online component isn't as strong as it should have been.

It holds amusement for a brief period, but the novelty factor phases out hastily.

Pure Chess is a solid way to play the popular board game offline and features a great presentation, but unfortunately, its online component is very inconsistent.

More difficult stages and a much better camera would have put the Pac in a better position to challenge Mario, but his resulting venture is a considerable option for new gamers.

Although it doesn't serve as a replacement for regular exercise, Wii Fit U is probably the best game in its genre, and with the existence of the Fit Meter, is a great way to keep track of and accompany daily activities.

AeternoBlade offers decent combat, platforming and puzzles that involve its time manipulation mechanic. Unfortunately, it is lacking polish, and several cheap segments later in the game can lead to unnecessary frustration.

Whilst not a travesty in the platform stakes, unfortunately Yoshi's New Island is rather bland and nowhere near the quality of Yoshi's Island on the SNES, and probably not even as interesting as the oft-criticised Yoshi's Island DS.

As is, at $2, less than the cost of a side dish at a fast food restaurant, it is so inoffensive, so softly marketed, that it actually may be a good purchase for some fans of physics puzzling games. Be warned, though, that much like fast food, the entire game may be finished in less than 30 minutes.

Just because the main selling point of a console isn't utilised, doesn't make a game flawed.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is oozing with quality and polish in every aspect, and easily surpasses the already outstanding previous instalment on the Nintendo Wii.

While some in the industry decry Japanese game development as stagnant, Level-5 has proven them wrong with some of the most experimental, creative, and interesting games to come from any studio anywhere in the world.

It isn't without its faults in presentation, control and the opening few hours, but does offer one of the most comprehensive experiences to date - great for newcomers and series veterans alike.

One Piece's 3DS debut in One Piece: Romance Dawn sets sail but is quickly sunk under monotonous fights, endless corridor roaming that would put Final Fantasy XIII to shame, and a recurring reminder that it is merely a slapdash port adapted to none of the 3DS' strengths.

NES Remix takes most of the NES' early library of first party games, and fractions them into small tasks that help to revisit the most satisfying moments of each, as well as "remixes" some into new types of gameplay involving all sorts of cool and surprising elements.

Whilst this version of EDGE has a few frame rate drops here and there, players should not be put off.

There are so many missed opportunities and strange control choices that it considerably drags the quality down.

Unepic may not stand out as one of the more original titles in the genre but it does what it sets out to do very well, offering plenty of addictive exploration, challenging combat and fairly in-depth character customisation.
