  1. This is a brilliant, if challenging, film.
  2. The film isn't quite excellent, though, since it sags in the middle and starts to seem repetitive.
  3. Weerasethakul's latest has received mixed responses on the film-festival circuit, yet while it's anything but commercial, it's also anything but unadventurous.
  4. It's a pity that such vital, thought-provoking material has been rendered so lifeless and inauthentic on the screen.
  5. A romantic comedy that's pleasant, if not exactly spellbinding.
  6. Yes
The results are visually striking, but conceptually they oscillate between poetic, pretentious, and philosophically dubious.
  7. As a zoological spectacle the movie is riveting. But the narration tries to make us think of these adorable animals as if they saw the world in human terms.
  8. Superbly acted, especially by Giocante as the teasing 16-year-old instigator.
  9. Suspenseful, surprising, and psychologically rich.
  10. Utterly predictable, but pleasant enough for its young target audience.
  11. Should be required viewing for every concerned citizen.
  12. The subject is intriguing even if the dialogue is stilted and the acting is uneven.
  13. Repetitious teen-targeted fluff.
  14. This unusual Macedonian release is engrossing if not always nimbly directed.
  15. There's much subtle beauty in the last movie completed by Merchant Ivory Productions before Merchant's untimely death.
  16. A mixed package, but often fun to watch.
  17. Superbly acted, movingly written, and directed with a tough-minded lyricism rarely found in today's films. A summer movie to love.
  18. This isn't a movie, it's a thingamajig - frequently as off-putting as can be, but unassailably one of a kind.
  19. Delivers enough action to please Saturday-night crowds, if not the surreal wit that made the first two "Batman" movies, directed by Tim Burton, so entertaining.
  20. Suspenseful and psychologically rich.
  21. Riveting and unique.
  22. The movie is a mish-mash of action-adventure clichés, book-ended with lame attempts at psychological interest. Written, directed, and acted with ham-fisted heaviness.
  23. Serial killing and other insanity in the French countryside, with ineptly dubbed English dialogue.
  24. Only part of it is in 3-D, but youngsters should enjoy pulling their special specs on and off at appropriate moments.
  25. You run across animation this ingenious about as often as a moving castle comes your way.
  26. The primary impression is lots of moping and mooning, plus a song at the beginning with some of the worst lyrics you've ever heard.
  27. 5x2
Compellingly acted and rich in visual ideas, but a bit thin in its psychological approach.
  28. Has touching and instructive moments.
  29. Hou's sensitivity plus Ozu's inspiration equals sublimity of sight and sound.
  30. Riveting, suspenseful, and a perfect antidote to the too-tricky documentary "Super-Size Me."
