The one thing that Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions nails is its balance between not only being a worthy tribute to its source material, but a competent and fun game. As someone who isn’t a fan of sports titles, I never would’ve believed that I could have as much fun as I did with this game or that I’d become so interested in checking out the Captain Tsubasa series. I already feel like I’ve become a fan of the series and now that I’ve played Rise of the New Champions, I would love to see other sports anime titles get similar treatment in the future.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst represents a compromised vision. It’s one part exhilarating first-person platformer, one part bland open-world title. In a year crowded with great releases, not to mention last year’s Dying Light representing a much better open-world parkour experience, that’s a vision many people won’t want to put their money on the line for.

A convoluted story and ugly visuals, each of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD's flaws are only made worse by bringing them to bigger screens.

While it isn’t the worst, I wouldn’t suggest that anyone plays Fate/Extella unless they’re starving for more time with the Fate universe.

Slave Zero X is a solid hack-and-slash and is an easy recommendation to fans of the genre.

Star Fox Zero is the most fun I’ve had with any Wii U game to date. The title more than makes up for Fox McCloud’s conspicuous absence for a decade and proves just what a uniquely satisfying gaming experience the gamepad offers when treated as an asset by game designers, rather than a bulky requirement to work with Nintendo’s mascots. It’s beautiful, challenging, deep, addictive, and plays unlike any other space shoot em’ up I’ve ever experienced.

In its current state Jurassic World Evolution is entertaining, but barebones as a business sim. Where Frontier really got things right was the dinosaurs themselves, they are simply the best versions of these prehistoric creatures in video games to date.

Earth Atlantis innovates by bringing in ideas from the metroidvania genre to its shoot’em up shell, creating an experience that is unlike any other.

Unfortunately, the scariest thing about MADiSON on the Nintendo Switch is its poor performance which mars an otherwise adequate port of a solid horror title.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is a fun experience for friends packed with nostalgia in the form of iconic characters and imagery and its fair share of easter eggs, but there is concern that love for the game could flame out faster than if you crossed the streams. If you are a fan of the franchise, though, it brings just enough joy to make it worth the price tag no matter what.

What we have here is a charming little action game with a lot of detail—not every detail matters, but there's solid effort put into making the machine work.

Knack 2 isn't the game of the year we have been waiting for, instead it's just more Knack. Who asked for this?

Sea of Thieves feels like a game that should be offered for $10–$20 tops as an early access or game preview product. There just isn't enough content or depth here, its core gameplay is grinding repetitive fetch quests and not a whole lot else, the progression here just isn't fulfilling, and fun factor depends on who you're playing with.

Nodding Head Games’ Raji: An Ancient Epic tells an interesting story but is simply not functional enough to enjoy.

By the end, I was just making whatever contradicting choices I could, mostly in a bid to cause drama because I care so little for the characters and the events of their story (with the exception of Clementine of course). Everything feels so rushed (I actually timed it this time, it takes one solid hour to clear this episode), each episode ends in disappointing abruption rather than an intriguing cliffhanger and none of it feels genuine. By this point, I honestly don’t think episode four or five will redeem this season for me.

Aftercharge truly has the potential to be “the next big thing”, with all fundamentals of what makes a shooter great, but in its early days its clear there is still polish that could done to the overall experience.

The weakest of the original less action-oriented run of games in the series, and the characters and locations aren’t all that interesting or unique. If you’re not a die-hard fan of the series willing to force yourself through the nightmare that is the horrid inventory system, I’d say avoid this one like a rotting corpse.

Final Vendetta is a love letter to the late 80’s and early 90’s era of arcade and home console brawlers that fans of Final Fight, Streets of Rage 2 and SNK’s Neo-Geo console, will immediately appreciate, though the high level of difficulty, lack of continues and no online play might make it a hard sell to newcomers.
