Song of Iron doesn’t offer a unique story or fresh gameplay mechanics, but it is still memorable for its great art direction inspired by Norse mythology. I was very impressed by how consciously the developer makes use of light, shadows and perspective. During the 5-6 hours long adventure you will slay hundreds of enemies and while the combat system is well-executed, the game’s intensity can be a bit tiring. [11/2021, p.52]- CD-Action

Grid will be an ideal game for subscription based services – stunning at first and tasty in small bites but unfortunately easy to forget after one week. [12/2019, p.50]- CD-Action

The first season of the traditional point’n’click with tons of absurd humor got a remaster. The graphics are much better (especially the new lighting that makes the environments look almost modern) and the adventures of the crazy detective duo are still funny as hell, but I think some jokes got too old for younger audience. It lasts for 3 hours tops, but it’s an intense adventure that proves that VR might not be completely useless. [08/2016, p.56]- CD-Action

For a not very serious game (inspired by serious whodunnit classics though), Lord Winklebottom Investigates is surprisingly engrossing. Get ready for a fun, highly absurd investigation full of British humor, but sadly not a long one, as it took me four hours to complete it.- CD-Action

Although it is very short (only two hours!), Lucifer Within Us is one of the best puzzle games of 2020. Set in a world infested with evil forces, it puts you in a role of an inquisitor/detective who must interrogate suspects, identify demons that possessed them, and perform exorcisms. In terms of mechanics, the developers somehow managed to blend Phoenix Wright with “The Exorcist”. Don’t ask how that works, just try it out. [02/2021, p.45]- CD-Action

Mortal Shell’s expansion adds an enjoyable roguelike mode, a new armor and a new character class. It might not be much, but it’s enough to return to the game for a couple of fun hours. [11/2021, p.57]- CD-Action

Fuelcell Games managed to create a really memorable game. Planet's tunnels are varied and surprise you with something weird all the time. Exploring this world is the most important aspect of the whole experience. Shooting constitutes for about 1/3 of the gameplay, leaving a lot of room for thinking and coming up with the ways to progress further. [Sept 2011, p.75]- CD-Action

A solid turn-based roguelike with traditional rules, transparent, fair gameplay, and distinctive atmosphere resembling Doom. It becomes repetitive and monotonous in longer sessions, but it’s a perfect title to launch in between other games. [10/2021, p.51]- CD-Action

Secret Files 3 will suit the taste of every traditional point'n'click games lover, not just fans of the series. Two basic elements – a well told story and reasonably designed puzzles – are very well executed here. [12/2012, p.68]- CD-Action

Morbid tells a mediocre story, but offers a great Lovecraftian atmosphere. The most important thing though is the game’s soulslike combat system, which is pleasant and takes the protagonist’s mental health into account alongside his stamina and HP. Don’t fear the “soulslike” label, because Morbid is not as frustrating as most games of that genre. [02/2021, p.51]- CD-Action

The developers contrasted disturbing scenes with simple, idyllic pixel art, creating an intriguing mix of a horror story and a fable. [05/2016, p.68]- CD-Action

The Germans took a step back and reintroduced more of the distinctive atmosphere of the Gothic series and the first Risen, which is a huge advantage for me. The world is so vivid and lively that it really makes you want to be there and see as much of the vast content as possible. It’s a shame that the game’s engine is visibly aging and the story lacks the punch. [10/2014, p.48]- CD-Action

My quarrel with Warlords of Draenor is that it does not define the direction for the whole game – it just refreshes it and sets it in order, which is what patches do. There’s not enough novelties and the changes (e.g. randomized loot) are hit and miss. [01/2015, p.52]- CD-Action

I have no idea how Panic Button managed to cram one of the most spectacular action games into Nintendo Switch. It’s an amazing achievement, but of course it came with a price – the game runs smoothly enough at 30 fps, but looks ugly, and playing it with the Joy-Cons is a nightmare. I highly recommend using the Pro Controller, or better still, experiencing this terrific shooter on another platform. [02/2021, p.54]- CD-Action

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden aims high, attempting to reach the level of AAA titles. It borrows the combat system and exploration from God of War, side quests from The Witcher, and a whole lot from some slightly worse high-budget games. The result is really good and the storyline in particular shines through – even if it could have been more emotional, it puts emphasis on not-so-easy decisions.- CD-Action

MultiTaskMaster looks like a student’s project assignment, but its fun concept (four minigames that you need to tackle simultaneously on split screen) proves that a good idea still is the most important component of a game. [11/2018, p.64]- CD-Action

It could really use some improvements introduced in more recent instalments of the series and it does not look good, but if you get hooked on its addictive character development, you can spend hundreds (!) of hours with Disgaea PC. [05/2016, p.70]- CD-Action

It is fascinating how the gameplay intensifies in response to players interactions with the environment. Just a few moving balls and once dead and abandoned room changes into a deadly arena. Though it shines at the beginning, with time the game loses some of its initial charm. [12/2019, p.59]- CD-Action

Samurai Warriors 5, another Musou game developed by Omega Force in recent times, is perfectly executed, but seems too conservative compared to Persona 5 Strikers or Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The gameplay is very enjoyable and animations are polished, but I wish the missions were staged in a more interesting and creative way. However, after many years and countless Warriors installments the core of the game still works fine. [10/2021, p.66]- CD-Action

Don’t expect a revolution. The PS5 version of the latest FIFA looks better, runs at 60 fps in 4K, and loads matches much faster, but the only feature truly worth focusing on is the creative use of haptic feedback (e.g. as your player gets tired, triggers gradually become harder to press). For me Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture was a beautiful, almost mystical experience thanks to its atmosphere and one of the best soundtracks in gaming history. It’s a shame that on PC framerate tends to drop below acceptable levels, I was annoyed by some bugs and the ending failed to properly wrap up the story. [08/2016, p.72]- CD-Action
