Blast Radius is an interesting take on the growing Tap Defence genre and the blast mechanic and upgrade system saves it from being just another game about tapping to survive. Though it won't pick up any prizes for style, it's still worth a play through and can get quite addictive once you get into the whole upgrade mechanic.

This game is a blend of luck, annoyance and more luck. With decent controls, or less of a shove to progress, this game might have been better. Unfortunately, this detracts totally from the rest of the game. If you complete all three worlds, you will, most probably, just want to put it down and not touch it again for a long, long while.

The addition of the gems system from the console game makes for an extra incentive to win matches, though the energy bar system that limits your online play time unless you pay real money is a something I'm not happy with at all in a paid app.

House of the Dead: Overkill - the Lost Reels is short but instantly playable. It's a very cut down version of a much loved game and doesn't offer much in the way of longevity, but with some clever controls and replayability thanks to the focus on score attack it's still worth a look for fans of lightgun games.

Aside from the awkward controls, LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes is a wonderful achievement on iOS, giving players a complete game experience that they can play anywhere.

Strategy & Tactics: World War II seems like a bit of a throwback to more traditional tabletop wargames, but it does the job of creating an interesting and historically accurate skirmish well and should appeal to anyone with an interest in this point in history, as well as those with a passion for pure strategy titles.

While RIP Rally satisfies the basics of a twin stick shooter and does, at least, try to be a little different with the car theme, it simply falls down for being too drab and badly balanced. The handling and adverts just tip it over the 'do not buy' edge.

Badland is a joy to watch, listen to and play. At times the gameplay may feel as if it's dragging you along with little control, but a split second's tap can also make all the difference between life and death and the journey is certainly worthwhile.

Tiny Troopers 2 may be a case of more of the same, only better, but this is no bad thing when it's based on such a great foundation. Fans of the first game and those new to the series who yern after then classic Cannon Fodder games should set their sights on this one.

With so many endless runners out there, Mini Ninjas doesn't feel like it does quite enough to stand out from the crowd, but the well designed graphics, use of different players and some nice power-ups still mean that it can be recommended to those fans looking for their next runner.

The focus on strategy and unique nature of buying and selling pieces of art to become the ultimate gallery owner and trader allows Art Mogul to stand out from the crowd. If you've ever been interested in owning famous paintings or think you could make it as an art dealer, Art Mogul comes highly recommended.

Sonic Dash is certainly a looker and it can move like lightning on the right hardware, but IAPs do hurt the experience a little for a paid app. Still, it can sit proudly as one of the top Endless Runners on the App Store, none-the-less.

So Aliens vs Predator: Evolution isn't perfect, but it is playable and pretty faithful to the franchise (bar using a facehugger as a helping hand on Alien missions). With decent graphics and 19 different levels, split between Predator and Alien sections, Evolution should give you a good run for your money.

Multiplayer is sadly lacking in Real Racing 3, replaced with a half-way house system that promises to allow you to race against the ghost cars of your friends, but really only seems to collect their lap times rather than their actual laps. It's better than nothing, but still feels like a missed opportunity.

If you're a big fan of score attack arcade games with big colourful graphics then Afterburner is your game. If you're looking for something a little deeper then look elsewhere.

Pixel People is one of those titles that takes a well-worn idea and goes off on a completely different tangent with it. The charm and cheeky little pokes at life will make you burst into a smile more often than not and the game is sure to work its way under your skin, leaving you managing your new society into the small hours of the night.

Catch the Ark doesn't try to rock the boat of Endless Runner games, but it doesn't need to. The charm of its character and the fun gameplay means that it's another solid game from the Chillingo stable and a must for Endless Runner fans.

Yes there are a couple of niggles but for the most part Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 is still very much the same, albeit cut down, game I fell in love with back in the day.

It encompasses all of the best parts of the console game but in a form that better suits the mobile touch screen format.

Anomaly Korea is a must for any Tower Defence fan looking for something a little different and it's a great sequel for any fans of the first game.

Nitro Chimp is a great little time waster that rides on the success of having a monkey on a motorbike as much as the thrill of the stunt-based racing. Although it always feels as if there should be more to the game, it's still fun to pick up and play.

Even in basic form, the game will appeal to younger fans but it's certainly best played with a portal at your side.

The charm of Magic Orbz is plain to see from the moment you first pick the game up and it's certainly a great addition to the hallowed halls of the best Breakout games. Easily recommended for any fan of the genre.

While it's not really original or outstanding, Solar Warfare is a pretty decent space shooter that tends to stick more to the land than the sky, but does a pretty good job with it.

It is a great addition to the Angry Birds universe, giving you more of what you had before whilst feeling fresh enough to warrant the small expenditure. And the best part is this: There's not a bloody Jar Jar Binks in sight. Splendid.

With its simple approach to mimicking Borderlands on a console, the broken control system and lack of variety, Borderlands Legends feels like a missed opportunity and a bit of a cash-in, relying on the name alone to sell the game.

Fans of world building games who are keen to explore a bit more of the E.T. universe are well catered for by this garden sim. It may not be out-of-this-world, but it's a solid game with plenty to keep would-be green fingers busy. If I had to grade this, I'd give it a B-good.

I admit to being sceptical about a jumping game featuring Sonic, but aside from the odd annoying level in the story mode and a feeling that Sonic really shouldn't be travelling upwards, something I don't think I'll ever get used to, Sonic Jump is an enjoyable little gem that took me by surprise.

With Leaderboards and Acheivements thanks to Game Center, the original modes and music and just the infectious fast-paced gameplay it contains, Crazy Taxi is a fantastic port of a classic game on iOS.

Dead Stop doesn't do anything really new, but it's a well designed and fun little Tower Defence game with a great vibe and it feels as if a lot of love has gone into its design, which makes it easy to recommend.

Only the slightly unreal feel of the physics themselves stand in the way of making this a perfect addition to the crop of physics puzzlers jostling for space on the App Store. It's still an enjoyable little game that's well worth picking up if you're interested by the idea of sticking pinball and physics puzzles together.

The level design encourages planning and more than just trial and error, the physics hit the spot and the graphics are well designed, but for anyone with an aversion for the hard sell within a game Jumpster doesn't do itself any favours. Retweet this!

FIFA 13 turns out to be an incremental update from last year and yet, with all the tweeks and small changes, EA's game manages to become the world champion of the iOS football league yet again.

Rayman Jungle Run is a must have game, both for the simple but perfectly tuned gameplay and for the beautiful visuals.

Spirit Walkers is a lovely slow-paced adventure with a good story that will see you wanting to uncover the mystery of the Cyprus Witch and help her to change the past.

Balance in Adventure games is a difficult thing to get right and Edna and Harvey manages this for part of the game but falls flat just as it gets going. But it's worth persevering and solving these tricky puzzles to find out just where the game will take you next, which is where Edna and Harvey scores points.

So, while the game remains simple to play, it has that perfect 'difficult to master' factor that will provide plenty of replay value.

For a game that simply involves throwing a paper plane as far as you can, there is plenty to do, many upgrades to buy and challenges that are going to require a bit of effort to beat.

Pumped:BMX is not a game for the feint hearted and will take a lot of practice before you find your feet, just like the real thing. But stick at it and there's an incredible amount of fun to be had from performing some impressive trick combinations.

There are some clever ideas in this otherwise straightforward platform game that enable it to stand out among the crowd and the story adds another enjoyable element to Solarola, as well as pushing the player forward to find out what happens next. While it's not perfect, the level design and bright, beautiful graphics make this game worth checking out if you're a fan of platformers.

The one finger control method works perfectly within the simple yet crafty level design to provide a challenge that's easy to control but difficult to master. With bright imaginative graphics and unique gameplay Mr Dreamer plays like a dream.

It's not going to win any prizes for in-depth gameplay, but Knights of the Round Cable is a lot of fun and up there with some of the best endless games out there. If you're a score attack fan then it's well worth checking out.

Overall, The Dark Knight Rises overcomes a few minor issues and provides fans with something worthy of the Batman name in a suitably shadowy Gotham playground.

Despite the genre already boasting some of the best iPhone games around, Kingdom Rush still manages to shine as one of the best Tower Defence games, even in this more compact form.

FarSight have done a fantastic job of bringing real pinball to iOS.

Despite the control issues and a few odd choices, AXL: Full Boost is still a good racer that should satisfy most cravings for a Wipeout clone on iOS.

Darkside has a lot of content and 3 game modes that offer several different ways to play. It's great for a quick dose of asteroid blasting and the mission mode provides a more structured take on the twin stick shooter.

Even with its short run time, The Act is still easy to recommend as an excellent take on animated laserdisc games.

Amazing Spider-man is a surprisingly good attempt at bringing an open-world web-slinger game to iOS. While the game engine can't always handle the task without the occasional hiccup and controls aren't always responsive in the heat of battle, it still feels as if this is the game Spider-man fans have waited for.

With a great art style which makes everything look like techno Hello Kitty meets the J-pop Youtube generation and a some trippy disco beats to play along to, Disco Kitten is a blast of fun that will keep you coming back for more. There's certainly nothing else like it on the App Store.

Babel Rising shows that sometimes bigger isn't better in that it works far better on a mobile platform than it does on consoles. It can still get a bit repetitive at times, but when 5 minutes of smiting can calm the nerves, it's worth the sacrifice.

Asphalt 7 Heat is a pretty full package that, while not being a major overhaul of the series, does enough to warrant a purchase by fans. It's certainly one of the best looking games on the App Store and you can't fault it for doing pretty much what it sets out to do; being a fast, no nonsense arcade racer.

Human Defence's premise, great cartoon graphics and educational aspect sets it apart from other Tower Defence games and creates something which is unique and fun at the same time. Only the lack of detail on the viruses themselves dampens the fun.

Pastry Panic doesn't try to do anything overly complicated and revels in its own simplicity. You will too as you frantically try to shove as many cakes in to your face as possible in a limited time.

Anyone who has been patiently waiting for a Cannon Fodder style game to appear on iOS needs to snatch Tiny Troopers up straight away. If you fancy a new strategy based team shooter with a cute streak then this is the game for you.

Rock(s) Rider has it's fair share of faults, mostly in setting levels which feel just the wrong side of unfair and having a camera which is zoomed in a little close. As with every other game in this genre, the physics isn't as good as it is in Redlynx's title by a long shot, the bike is often far too light to seem realistic.

While Tango Chase isn't the most graphically impressive title out there, it keeps things colourful and fun and will certainly appeal to its target audience, the younger age ranges. As a free game (or 69p with no ads) Herotopia's game certainly does the monkey business and provides a fun title with a cute hero.

A rather mixed bag. When it works well it's an impressive game that far outdoes any previous FPS Gameloft have put out, but there are too many bugs and issues still around to make it a consistently good experience.

This Could Hurt is far from a complicated game, but it doesn't need to be. It shows what can be achieved by simplifying a control method and concentrating on intelligent level design and gameplay instead.

A tremendous accomplishment. It succeeds on every level, in fact the only significant complaint we can level at the game is that once the game is completed you can't go back and replay any specific level.

Scoretable issues aside, Ski Safari is an excellent addition to the genre and offers up a lot of replay value. The simple control system and excellent characters make it easy to recommend to those looking for their next big endless runner title.

There are a lot of issues with Capcom's latest iOS fighter; framerate, controls and those ugly graphics, but the game is saved from total disappointment by just being what it is; a port of Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Shark Dash is a bit of a surprise from Gameloft. It has a nice, balanced skill level, bright and colourful graphics and is fun to play, all wrapped in a game that isn't part of the new freemium model. It certainly gives you something to get your teeth into.

Overcomes the perils of aged graphics and gameplay because the more interesting elements help to keep it fresh and unique. It still remains an excellent game and one that is well worth playing through or, if you played it the first time, revisiting.

Jazz: Trump's Journey is a high-class game that wouldn't look out of place on the PC or XBox Live Arcade. Whilst not quite rubbing shoulders with the giants, it can still hold its head up high amongst its contemporaries.

Cannon Cat's bright and humorous nature shines through and makes it easy to recommend to both platform lovers and those with a penchant for physics based games. The fact that it's both free and universal make it a must have.

Even without multiplayer, though, Hunters 2 is still one of the best strategy titles on the App Store and improves on the original game without changing those parts that made the first game so good.

While 100 Greatest Hits may not have every classic game on offer (I still yearn for Cosmic Kanga, my first Spectrum game), it certainly contains more than enough memories to allow gamers to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ZX Spectrum with their favourite iDevice.

While Outrun has yet to appear on iOS, Final Freeway 2R is more than enough compensation for the lack of Sega's racer.

With such old-school sensibilities grafted onto such contemporary presentation, Boy Loves Girl can bring entertainment to both young and old, offering equal amounts of cheer and challenge. You will have to go far to find a game as pleasing, but why bother when this one is available?

If you're a TD fan or even if you've yet to try the genre, there's a lot to recommend in iBomber Defence Pacific. Although it's still early days, it gets my vote for Tower Defence of the year.

Graphically, Ice Age Village is one of the better looking games of its ilk with lots of animated characters and easily placed items. Pathways could do with a better system for placing them down, though and there is the odd issue with scrolling around bigger environments when placing a house. For the most part, though, the game certainly feels like it fits with the movie series and the chunky, colourful graphics do appeal to younger players.

While seasoned players may find that Burnout Crash! is a little lighter on content than they would like, the game is certainly a blast while it lasts and if you're up against friends on Origin the Autolog can get very competitive.

It is a title best approached as a pastime instead of thought of as a game, and for this reason it is impossible to score. However, if you know at least one other person who owns a device capable of playing this game, and the odds are that you do, then you should join in the fun as soon as you possibly can.

There has always been a reason that Angry Birds is THE mobile game, and that is because it does what it does extremely well indeed. My own personal iPhone has a folder for "Essentials" on the first page, and it is in to this very folder that I have put Angry Birds Space.

A great ambassador for the new iPad, but even if you only own an iPhone 4 or an iPad 2 it's still well worth a purchase. It's by far the best aerial combat game on iOS and should provide plenty of longevity thanks to the myriad of modes on offer once the campaign has been completed.

Essentially, Sky Defenders does nothing new in terms of gameplay or innovation and comes close to being a blatant copy of One Man Left's popular title at times, but the graphics and extra powers do allow the game to create its own identity. If you're a fan of tilting survival games then it's worth checking Superplay's superhero title out.

With 20 levels in each section and 5 sections to get through, there is plenty of fun to be had with Moon Active's game. Though it may be a bit short for the more accomplished gamer, Bitter Sam is still worth dangling some cash over the App Store for.

For those who love mini tasks, collecting missions and don't mind a more casual take on adventure games with little in the way of taxing puzzles, The Island: Castaway will happily entertain you for hours. Those gamers looking for something with a little more challenge may find this game lacking. That said, the initial game is free and it's worth visiting the island at least once.

The whole game just feels like a perfect fit on iPad, particularly if you're sitting down looking down at the screen. With odd humour that hits you when you least expect it and a daunting sense of falling captured perfectly thanks to the interface and the graphics, AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! (Force = Mass x Acceleration) is a perfect match for Apple's tablet.

Breakout was a great game, I remember playing it when I was a little boy and loving it. It's just a shame that as the videogame industry have evolved, breakout hasn't. Compared to some of the games that have come out in recent years it just feels ancient.

Sticky Sheep is a great physics game with some unique ideas and a fun arcade mode that I'd love to see expanded on. Another top class addition to the Chillingo line up.

Prince of Persia Classic is a game that has stood the test of time thanks to the fantastic upgrade to the graphics and a thoughtful control layout. If you've never played the original, you owe it to yourself and to gaming history to check this out.

A fairly decent fighter that manages to recapture some of the nostalgia for late 80's gaming. A multiplayer, arcade and survival mode help provide longevity, though multiplayer doesn't seem to be that robust and is pretty random.

With new rides appearing in regular updates, Funpark Friends does provide a level of progression and a goal system that some players will be happy to work through, but without the strategy that comes from balancing budgets or catering to visitors, it all feels a little empty.

With more tracks,more variety and more reason to go back to earlier races, Retro Racing would be perfect, but as it stands the game is still a great little racer that will remind old timers like myself of the glory days of the Amiga.

With 100 levels and a three star system that provides some level of replay to the game, SpongeBob's Super Bouncy Fun Time is a great addition to both the App Store and Nickelodeon's app catalogue.

It's a disappointment to report that parts of of the game are fundamentally broken.

A return to form for Telltale and big technical improvement over recent games. It mixes the best of the well-loved series with the best of point and click interfaces and comes up with a winning combination.

Although there are a plethora of top down racers on the App Store right now, I'd stick my neck out and say that Reckless Racing 2 is the best one out there, hands down, and will be for some time to come. Pixelbite have really nailed it with this one.

With an eye for quality visuals and some great level design, Housemarque has managed to produce an outstanding game in a crowded genre. Furmins is perfectly balanced and yet challenging enough to keep puzzle fans happy.

It's significantly more difficult than Resurrection to gain a good score and relies on a good knowledge of enemy patterns and levels. This might put some newer gamers off and anyone new to the series would probably be better of starting with the other game, but for Bullet Hell veterans, Blissful Death might be just the challenge they need.

If you're a fan of the series or of fighting games in general and can live with the lack of Multiplayer for now, then SoulCalibur is still worth the asking price. If Namco Bandai add Multiplayer, expect the score to shoot up to 10.

Dark Incursion is a great game but it is a little short, though what's there is fun to play. The controls work well which is a massive testament to a game of this sort, a lot of the run and gun style games fall flat on their faces because the controls are too complicated or just don't work.

The best Sims game on iOS, particularly if you're playing on iPad. It's just as addictive as the other good freemium titles out there (Tiny Towers, Smurfs Village) even if it does take a bit of grinding to get anywhere.

It is fun to play in short bursts, and perhaps in short bursts it might last you a little while. If you like long gaming sessions though, it can easily be done in a few hours. Hopefully in future updates Strange Games will add new chapters that are a lot harder, and integration with Game center.

While One Epic Game isn't quite as bold as the title might like to think, it's does a good job of standing out as one of the better Endless Runners. The art and music, along with the (sometimes questionable) comedy make it worth considering if you're a fan of the genre.

The quality feel to the app and its addictive nature makes it an easy recommendation for anyone who likes puzzle games.
