It's significantly more difficult than Resurrection to gain a good score and relies on a good knowledge of enemy patterns and levels. This might put some newer gamers off and anyone new to the series would probably be better of starting with the other game, but for Bullet Hell veterans, Blissful Death might be just the challenge they need.

Jazz: Trump's Journey is a high-class game that wouldn't look out of place on the PC or XBox Live Arcade. Whilst not quite rubbing shoulders with the giants, it can still hold its head up high amongst its contemporaries.

It's not going to win any prizes for in-depth gameplay, but Knights of the Round Cable is a lot of fun and up there with some of the best endless games out there. If you're a score attack fan then it's well worth checking out.

The best Sims game on iOS, particularly if you're playing on iPad. It's just as addictive as the other good freemium titles out there (Tiny Towers, Smurfs Village) even if it does take a bit of grinding to get anywhere.

With fantastic presentation, great gameplay and an interesting touch control system EA have a real prize fighter of a game on their hands.

Despite the cost, though, Final Fantasy III is an impressive journey that successfully mixes old style RPGs with newer design and controls. For long term fans of the series and those who are curious about classic RPGs this is a must.

If you're not put off by a challenge, and there are some steep learning curves here, then Mad Skills Motocross is a great game to test your skills on. It feels original and keeps you coming back again and again for just one more challenge.

When I compare it to the new Need For Speed Hot Pursuit or Real Racing 2 it feels lightweight and gimmicky, but there's certainly enough here to recommend to fans who prefer the thrills of arcade racing over more realistic racing games and I still had a lot of fun living as a boy racer.

The Hero is super easy to pick up; this low entry level and the universally appealing super hero genre tag make it an outstanding purchase for almost anyone at the suprisingly low £1.19 price tag.

Magnetic Baby is a real delight to play. The cartoon graphics suit it perfectly as the game serves up its own share of frustration and delight.

The addition of the gems system from the console game makes for an extra incentive to win matches, though the energy bar system that limits your online play time unless you pay real money is a something I'm not happy with at all in a paid app.

Pixel People is one of those titles that takes a well-worn idea and goes off on a completely different tangent with it. The charm and cheeky little pokes at life will make you burst into a smile more often than not and the game is sure to work its way under your skin, leaving you managing your new society into the small hours of the night.

In re-creating a classic game, Vivid Studios have triumphed with this iOS version. Every ounce of fun has been successfully transplanted from the Amiga classic. But more than that, they've added to it without diluting what made the original so good.

Despite the odd control issue and a slight case of repetition, Dark Meadow is a fantastic horror mystery that straddles point-and-click adventures and the combat style Role Playing dynamics of Infinity Blade. If you're a Horror fan with an iPad or iPhone then you should sign up for your stay in the Dark Meadow hospital straight away.

It's quite an addictive little game that I can see myself going back to; trying to improve my scores.

For a small game like this, it's quite impressive that you can get so much from it.

It is a simpl[e] but effective little game that delivers as just a 2D shooter, whilst having just enough depth to keep it interesting over a period of time. For what you are paying I would recommend this game highly.

Back To the Future is a sacred franchise to many fans, Telltale have done well to stay true to the world of Doc and Marty without too much in the way of deviation. While re-creating their universe, Back To the Future Episode 1 produces a great story and some fun puzzles to solve.

With Leaderboards and Acheivements thanks to Game Center, the original modes and music and just the infectious fast-paced gameplay it contains, Crazy Taxi is a fantastic port of a classic game on iOS.

You really can tell that a lot of work and effort went into making this the best game in its genre on the App Store and the team should be commended for doing so.

In many ways Ravensword reaches beyond the limitations of its native hardware and you could argue that this is its one true downfall. If you can look past the poor draw distance, and you should, you will find an irresistible leviathan of a game.

RoboSockets works because it has just the right level of difficulty, plenty of game modes and a perfect blend of old fashioned puzzle with a new twist.

The game weighs in at a hefty £5.99 on the old price scales, but for high production values and sheer amount of content on offer, the price is justified.

It all adds up to one hectic puzzle game that requires some expert timing in later levels in order to keep all the flames burning.

While Outrun has yet to appear on iOS, Final Freeway 2R is more than enough compensation for the lack of Sega's racer.

Pigs in Trees is a great title that takes the path drawing formula of Flight Control and adds its own unique spin on the game. It's a good job pigs can fly after all.

This Could Hurt is far from a complicated game, but it doesn't need to be. It shows what can be achieved by simplifying a control method and concentrating on intelligent level design and gameplay instead.

A great single player experience, just as it was in the 90's on PC, but it feels that more content could be added to beef the game up. For top down racer fans though, particularly those who enjoyed Reckless Racing, Death Rally is another great addition to the genre and the weapons add a new dimension to the racing.

While seasoned players may find that Burnout Crash! is a little lighter on content than they would like, the game is certainly a blast while it lasts and if you're up against friends on Origin the Autolog can get very competitive.

It's certainly one of the best looking sports games on iOS and well worth investing some time in. I only wish NaturalMotion would work on providing a full match version of the sport with proper team against team play.

Scoretable issues aside, Ski Safari is an excellent addition to the genre and offers up a lot of replay value. The simple control system and excellent characters make it easy to recommend to those looking for their next big endless runner title.

I admit to being sceptical about a jumping game featuring Sonic, but aside from the odd annoying level in the story mode and a feeling that Sonic really shouldn't be travelling upwards, something I don't think I'll ever get used to, Sonic Jump is an enjoyable little gem that took me by surprise.

Cross Fingers has a lot of potential where the strengths outweigh the flaws. It's not the prettiest game to look at and there are times that you will want to throw you iTouch against the wall with frustration; however, this just increases its playability!

For a game that simply involves throwing a paper plane as far as you can, there is plenty to do, many upgrades to buy and challenges that are going to require a bit of effort to beat.

Chop Chop Kicker may be basic and lack the longer term challenge of some other flying games, but the cute graphics and interesting use of a crayon help it to stand out among the crowd.

Back To The Future Episode 2 is an essential purchase for fans of the movies and, of course, the first episode. It has the same strengths and, particularly for first generation iPad owners, the same weaknesses too.

With a fair few races that get progressively harder and a good scoring system, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit is a great return to the good old days of the franchise and highly recommended for fans of arcade racing.

With an eye for quality visuals and some great level design, Housemarque has managed to produce an outstanding game in a crowded genre. Furmins is perfectly balanced and yet challenging enough to keep puzzle fans happy.

The charm of Magic Orbz is plain to see from the moment you first pick the game up and it's certainly a great addition to the hallowed halls of the best Breakout games. Easily recommended for any fan of the genre.

If you're a fan of big Space Operas and fancy blowing a fleet of enemies out of the sky in a dogfight then Star Battalion should be right up your street. It may not be the longest game in the world but it's certainly one of the most action packed and explosive games I've played in recent months and kept me entertained throughout.

Guerrilla Bob is a non-stop gun-slinging assault on the senses. If it didn't play so competently, the game might come off as brash or annoying, but, it doesn't, and comes out smelling of roses.

Despite the control issues and a few odd choices, AXL: Full Boost is still a good racer that should satisfy most cravings for a Wipeout clone on iOS.

If you're looking for a nice pick-up 'n' play game for your iPod, this is definitely it. Besides the small gripes with the weapon swiping, this game is one of my favourites.

Overcomes the perils of aged graphics and gameplay because the more interesting elements help to keep it fresh and unique. It still remains an excellent game and one that is well worth playing through or, if you played it the first time, revisiting.

Overall The Elite Collection is a small but great set of games and a solid emulator to play them on. Kudos for Elite Systems for going the extra mile to provide 128k support as well. With the promise of more to come I recommend this to anyone who feels nostalgic about the glorious 8-bit days of gaming.

If you love physics puzzlers, especially cute looking ones with a lot of attitude, Happy Hills is a must. The free App gives you plenty of levels to get your blockbusting teeth into before resorting to the very reasonable in-app purchase for the rest.

Vikings Can Fly isn't a long game by any means. The hardest part is always the start, where you find yourself with next-to-no help at all.

Prince of Persia Classic is a game that has stood the test of time thanks to the fantastic upgrade to the graphics and a thoughtful control layout. If you've never played the original, you owe it to yourself and to gaming history to check this out.

With a great art style which makes everything look like techno Hello Kitty meets the J-pop Youtube generation and a some trippy disco beats to play along to, Disco Kitten is a blast of fun that will keep you coming back for more. There's certainly nothing else like it on the App Store.

While the main campaign is over too quickly, the amount of fun to be had in the other modes and the mix of great controls and humour help to make Laser Dolphin a stand out title in a sea of App Store action games.

Overall, it's an app that you should consider. It's very much the same of what we've seen before, but in a sense it's something fresh. It's old goods served on a silver platter in that respect. When described in its most basic form, a platformer where you run around picking up bits of scrap with the ability to defy gravity, it doesn't sound much of a treat.

I haven't stopped playing the game for the last week but found it hard to decide whether this is solely due to the game in question or because I haven't played a game in this genre for some time.

But as a self confessed Back To The Future fan, this episode has been a great ride through some slightly unfamiliar territory. The ending might leave you wanting Episode 4 in a hurry, however. As usual, it's a must for ipad owning fans of the movies.

Dead Stop doesn't do anything really new, but it's a well designed and fun little Tower Defence game with a great vibe and it feels as if a lot of love has gone into its design, which makes it easy to recommend.

Catch the Ark doesn't try to rock the boat of Endless Runner games, but it doesn't need to. The charm of its character and the fun gameplay means that it's another solid game from the Chillingo stable and a must for Endless Runner fans.

With 20 levels in each section and 5 sections to get through, there is plenty of fun to be had with Moon Active's game. Though it may be a bit short for the more accomplished gamer, Bitter Sam is still worth dangling some cash over the App Store for.

Assuming that the multi-player will come soon enough and being only swayed a little by the lack of modes, FIFA 11 is still the Football game of choice on iDevices. It sets the standard other football games must follow once again.

If you're a fan of the series or of fighting games in general and can live with the lack of Multiplayer for now, then SoulCalibur is still worth the asking price. If Namco Bandai add Multiplayer, expect the score to shoot up to 10.

Cardboard Castle is a charming puzzle adventure that is well worth experiencing, even if it does leave you scratching your head at times.

Smash Cops should be given praise for trying something new in its control system and daring to be different with the camera angle.

The one finger control method works perfectly within the simple yet crafty level design to provide a challenge that's easy to control but difficult to master. With bright imaginative graphics and unique gameplay Mr Dreamer plays like a dream.

Graphically, Ice Age Village is one of the better looking games of its ilk with lots of animated characters and easily placed items. Pathways could do with a better system for placing them down, though and there is the odd issue with scrolling around bigger environments when placing a house. For the most part, though, the game certainly feels like it fits with the movie series and the chunky, colourful graphics do appeal to younger players.

At first glance, Lara Croft's new outing may seem nothing like the Tomb Raider games of old, but it owes far more to Lara's past than you might think and ultimately, forgiving the odd slip with positioning, plays like one of her best games to date.

The most important thing you should take away from this review, however, is that you can dismember the zombies limb by limb with your shotgun, as a Monk, in a chapel, on your iPhone.

Shift 2 Unleashed is another polished title from EA and sits at the top end of the racing genre on iOS. Sim fans and arcade racers alike with both get a lot of joy from racing around the many tracks on offer and the upgrade system is impressive.

Babel Rising shows that sometimes bigger isn't better in that it works far better on a mobile platform than it does on consoles. It can still get a bit repetitive at times, but when 5 minutes of smiting can calm the nerves, it's worth the sacrifice.

Spirit Walkers is a lovely slow-paced adventure with a good story that will see you wanting to uncover the mystery of the Cyprus Witch and help her to change the past.

While Tango Chase isn't the most graphically impressive title out there, it keeps things colourful and fun and will certainly appeal to its target audience, the younger age ranges. As a free game (or 69p with no ads) Herotopia's game certainly does the monkey business and provides a fun title with a cute hero.

Puzzle Agent 2 still has issues. Puzzles aren't balanced well enough and often arrive at the detriment of the story. Taken as a whole, though, I enjoyed my stay in Scoggins for a second time and fans of the first game won't be disappointed with this sequel either.

Despite these faults, it's hard not to be impressed by Shadowgun. The game is visually stunning and fun to play. It's certainly the best 3rd Person Shooter on iOS and paves the way for further expansion of the iOS shooter genre.

Cannon Cat's bright and humorous nature shines through and makes it easy to recommend to both platform lovers and those with a penchant for physics based games. The fact that it's both free and universal make it a must have.

Balance in Adventure games is a difficult thing to get right and Edna and Harvey manages this for part of the game but falls flat just as it gets going. But it's worth persevering and solving these tricky puzzles to find out just where the game will take you next, which is where Edna and Harvey scores points.

With a great list of songs, more to buy on the store and a vastly better effort than the first game, Rockband Reloaded is well worth a purchase if you're in to your music games and fancy a portable version while you're away from your plastic guitar.

Human Defence's premise, great cartoon graphics and educational aspect sets it apart from other Tower Defence games and creates something which is unique and fun at the same time. Only the lack of detail on the viruses themselves dampens the fun.

With a harder (some may say more unfair) difficulty level and some interesting new ideas, Spider Jack succeeds in being more than just another clone of a popular game. If you're after a challenge and you can forgive some of the design flaws, the game is well worth the entry fee.

So here's the thing; if you think you can cope with dodgy controls and annoying restarts and want to witness something of a minor miracle for gaming on the iPhone then Prince of Persia Warrior Within is worth downloading.

Whether you get a lot of joy from this game or not will really depend on two things; whether you love Peanuts and whether you are either patient enough to wait for new items or have the cash to spare to upgrade faster. Those who are already against freemium titles won't really be swayed by this game, but there is a lot of fun to be had for people who like the slower pace and love Snoopy.

Strategy & Tactics: World War II seems like a bit of a throwback to more traditional tabletop wargames, but it does the job of creating an interesting and historically accurate skirmish well and should appeal to anyone with an interest in this point in history, as well as those with a passion for pure strategy titles.

Multiplayer is sadly lacking in Real Racing 3, replaced with a half-way house system that promises to allow you to race against the ghost cars of your friends, but really only seems to collect their lap times rather than their actual laps. It's better than nothing, but still feels like a missed opportunity.

In a genre that's held hostage by insipid mechanics and decaying conventions, Mobile Pie have created a game that feels fresh, but at the same time familiar in all the right places.

It's more of the same but the story raises it above the previous episodes.

With more tracks,more variety and more reason to go back to earlier races, Retro Racing would be perfect, but as it stands the game is still a great little racer that will remind old timers like myself of the glory days of the Amiga.

Pastry Panic doesn't try to do anything overly complicated and revels in its own simplicity. You will too as you frantically try to shove as many cakes in to your face as possible in a limited time.

There are some clever ideas in this otherwise straightforward platform game that enable it to stand out among the crowd and the story adds another enjoyable element to Solarola, as well as pushing the player forward to find out what happens next. While it's not perfect, the level design and bright, beautiful graphics make this game worth checking out if you're a fan of platformers.

Sonic 4 Episode 1 is a strange combination of new and old, some of it works and some doesn't but as a package it still comes together as a more than decent Sonic game that will delight both old fans and newcomers.

RAGE is a real example of style over substance but entertaining with it.

For less than a couple of pounds you can indulge in your own Predator fantasies for a few hours. This, the satisfying kills and the detailed graphics save the game from being forgettable and make it worth downloading if you're a fan of the franchise.

If I take my Batman fanboy hat (with pointy ears) off for a moment and look at the game without thinking about the franchise, its main faults are quite clear; the combat system is basic, especially compared to Infinity Blade, and the length of the game is pretty short, but even without the Dark Knight's involvement, the game would be easy to recommend.

You will find this game enjoyable if you are a fan of Two Worlds or you have never played this type of genre. If you have played tower defence games before, you may be disappointed to see another version hit the App Store.

Sonic Dash is certainly a looker and it can move like lightning on the right hardware, but IAPs do hurt the experience a little for a paid app. Still, it can sit proudly as one of the top Endless Runners on the App Store, none-the-less.

Without the freemium aspect It would be easy to award Let's Golf 3 with a great score, it's a solid game that improves on previous titles. With it, the game feels as if those gophers from the advert have popped up and made holes all over the golf course; it ruins the game.

Danger Alliance: Battles is a fun strategy game which makes its own mark thanks to the stand-out cartoon graphics style and great AI.

While One Epic Game isn't quite as bold as the title might like to think, it's does a good job of standing out as one of the better Endless Runners. The art and music, along with the (sometimes questionable) comedy make it worth considering if you're a fan of the genre.

Overall it is a good game. The production levels are high, and I like it as a 'simple idea done well'. I would love to have seen a bit more though; perhaps some more unlockables, different food items, secret bonuses or something.

While you could berate Atari's game for being too basic, it's as much an asset as it is a criticism. Those looking for an update to the classic Asteroids will find much to admire in Asteroids: Gunner, especially with the agreeable freemium model in place.

While other racers, or even a ghost car of your last lap, would improve the game, the thrill of building the best car and testing it out is enough to warrant a purchase.

The occasional 'scary' moments add some tense atmosphere, which the game really relies on. It's worth getting, as it will last a few hours.

While Volcano Escape has flaws, it's still a simple jumping game at heart and the challenge of beating high scores may make it worth going back to. It's one of the best looking games of its type, just not the best in terms of gameplay.
