The graphics in this title are lovely and full of charm, the sound is done well, the randomized gameplay keeps things fresh and interesting on each run, and the challenging hack-n-slash style game mechanic mixed with match-three means a fresh and fun new take on a tried-and-true genre. There’s more strategy required for this game than some others, but the end results are so satisfying. Tavern Guardians is a title I’ll be coming back to over and over again in the near future, and I recommend it for anyone who enjoys a challenging strategy match-three RPG game.- AppAdvice

The graphics are downright spectacular and remind me of other great games I’ve played in the past, such as Lara Croft GO and even a bit of Journey. The tunes are tranquil and relaxing, despite the somewhat gloomy tone of the game, and really just pull you in. Controls are responsive and intuitive with no issues from my testing of the game. I think the difficulty level is just right, because it picks up at a gradual pace and most of these puzzles can be solved by trial-and-error, so anyone can enjoy this fantastic puzzle adventure story.- AppAdvice

The visuals are stunning and exquisite, the music and sound effects are soothing and delightful, and the controls are super easy to pick-up-and-learn. The visuals are definitely appealing with the isometric voxel style, and the music is delightful. The puzzles start off easy enough, but things pick up in difficulty at a nice, gradual pace, so it’s never overwhelming. It did take me a while to figure out how to do anything in the start, but once everything clicked, it all felt super intuitive. My best recommendation is to just tap on anything that looks interesting and see what happens, then look at the bigger picture and put it all together. I don’t think the puzzles are too difficult either, as you can figure out what needs to be done after a few attempts, so this is a great puzzle adventure for all ages. The hand-drawn graphics are beautiful to behold, and when it’s combined with the ambiance of the music and sounds, it’s a surreal dreamscape that’s hard to escape from.- AppAdvice

The visuals and sound effects are pretty simple but still lovely to see and hear. There are plenty of puzzles for the price, and while they do get challenging as you get further along, they never once feel overwhelming, so this is a puzzle game fit for all ages. While you can buy keys to skip levels that you are stuck on, I feel that almost all of them can be solved through trial-and-error, so the keys are completely optional. I recommend picking up Trilogic if you’re in the mood for relaxing but stimulating logic puzzles.- AppAdvice

I love the beautiful visual style and music, and the fact that everything is mostly automatic makes it easy to see what’s happening and understand. It’s a bit disappointing that the developers don’t plan on adding the expansions to this version, or even adding more game modes in the future. But if you’re looking for a great solitaire game for quick sessions, then Onirim is a pretty good fit for the price of a dollar.- AppAdvice

I like the simple and clean visual style, the tranquil music is great and helps you focus on solving the puzzles, and the concept is basic but still challenging. I just wish that the game still kept the colors at the bottom because I feel it’s easier to switch between the colors this way — perhaps it should be considered as an option. Another thing I found weird was the loading times between stages — it seems a bit long for what it is, and I hope that the developer optimizes these loading times in the future. And finally, I would like to see are more levels added eventually, as it would increase the longevity of the game. Other than that, I think Polycolor is a pretty solid release so far.- AppAdvice

The minimal style is aesthetically pleasing, and the colors are eye-catching. However, if the colors are too bright when you play in the dark, there is a Night theme that you can switch to in the menu to turn everything into grayscale, which is a nice addition. The music is soothing as well, so it’s easy to put your attention into solving the puzzles. Controls are intuitive and responsive, the myriad of puzzles can be fairly challenging, and the gameplay mechanics are introduced at a gradual pace that never overwhelms. The only thing that is missing are hints for those who prefer immediate gratification when it comes to puzzle solving, but I think it’s better this way since there’s no way to squeeze more money out of you for hints through in-app purchases or watching ad clips. And as I said, everything can be solved by trial-and-error.- AppAdvice

As a fan of word games of all kinds, I am enjoying Antitype so far. The game is unlike most other word games I’ve tried in recent memory, and I love the simplicity of the visual and audio design. It can definitely be challenging on some levels because of the shifting mechanic, but I like the fact that there will always be a different solution on each attempt, because it keeps things fresh and interesting, and no one gets an unfair advantage over another. This is a perfect game to play for both quick and longer game sessions. I highly recommend Antitype to anyone who likes word games and brain teaser puzzles.- AppAdvice

I know that infinite runner style games have gotten a bit tiresome over the years, but I feel like Pengy brings in a unique gameplay concept that makes it a bit more challenging than the typical infinite runner, since you only have a limited supply of ice to get you as far as possible. It requires a bit of practice to get good at this game because of the resource management, but it’s still fun and a great gem to play for quick game sessions. Plus, the delightful cartoon-style graphics are fun to look at as you play, the sounds are soothing, and the controls are perfectly optimized for touch screen devices. Pengy Has a Dream is a great addition to anyone’s mobile game collection.- AppAdvice

The graphics are stunning and take me back to my childhood days, and the circus theme music is both dastardly and charming at the same time, somehow. It’s also hard to find platformer style games that nail down the controls, but Penarium did a great job with them, because they feel like perfection as it is, though you can customize them in the settings. The gameplay mechanic itself is rather fun and frantic, so it’s a great way to test your skills, and there are no in-app purchases or extras. On top of it all, the game is fairly humorous thanks to the wacky ways that Willy can die for the audience, and the ringmaster has some funny bits of dialogue as well. Overall, Penarium is just a fantastic game that should not be missed.- AppAdvice

It’s fairly difficult, which is to be expected from a bullet hell shooter, but because of the roguelike elements, such as randomly generated runs, it’s refreshing and even more challenging since you can’t predict what comes next. Even though the boss battles wreck me, I still can’t help but keep coming back to it. The Daily Run also gives you something to look forward to each day, and the arena is a nice way to just practice and get better. And as a fan of pixel art games, the graphics are top-notch and some of the best I’ve seen lately for a bullet hell space shooter. And who can resist a great metal soundtrack? The only downside to Steredenn is the fact that you can’t play your own music while you’re in the game, even if you turn the music and sounds down completely. Hopefully the developers can change this in a future update, because while the metal soundtrack is great and all, sometimes I just want to listen to my own tunes.- AppAdvice

The visuals in Run-A-Whale are downright exquisite, especially all of the realistic effects such as the water rippling and affecting what you see below the surface, as well as the dynamic day, night, and weather cycles. The music and nature sound effects will bring you pure zen, and the controls work out well for the touch screen. The goals keep you coming back for more, and some of them are rather hard to do, which just means you’ll just keep trying until you get them, and the addition of bosses is a nice touch. And to top everything off, Run-A-Whale has zero in-app purchases — you pay the dollar and get everything in the game! The only way to get enough coins for everything is to play the game.- AppAdvice

I love the retro aesthetic design, because it reminds me a lot of Geometry Wars, which happens to be one of my favorite dual-stick shooter arcade games. As a fan of EDM in general, I found the soundtrack to be delightful, and the sound effects and numerous explosions on screen are quite satisfying. And while the main objective is pretty straightforward, I like having the other three goals on each stage to keep things interesting, and it just means more replay value. I kind of wish that the game did offer different difficulty levels for players to choose from though, because it’s fairly difficult and definitely not something I’d recommend for casual players who may get frustrated easily.- AppAdvice

I’ve only started Zombie Gunship Survival, but so far it’s an enjoyable way to pass the time. I love how realistic the graphics are because it is truly immersive and unique, unlike some other zombie shooter games that I’ve seen. The controls are easy enough to understand, and you can easily change the y-axis and x-axis to have inverted movement. I’m usually not a fan of freemium base building games, but the distinctive combat system of Zombie Gunship Survival is interesting enough to keep me coming back for more. Overall, Art of Gravity is a gem for any physics-based puzzle game fan’s collection. The game not only looks good with the voxel-style graphics, but it has soothing music and realistic sound effects that just add a layer of depth to the game. Controls are simple enough, and not having the game tell you how everything works is a selling point, because it’s so much more rewarding that way once you figure something out. The flaws I’ve mentioned are something that the developer should think about optimizing in future updates, but this is still a solid game that deserves a spot on your device.- AppAdvice

Overall, Mr Future Ninja is a good game for those who like stealth, puzzle, and platforming games all combined into one title. I fell in love with this game as soon as I saw the unique visual style, and I’m not disappointed in that area. The gameplay is fun too, and rather challenging as you get further along in the game. I just wish that the controls were better, and it wasn’t so short. The game looks breathtaking, especially if you appreciate minimalistic vector graphics, and the music is a joy to listen to. As a fan of Metroidvania games, I’m sad to see the lack of them in the App Store, so forma.8 GO is a pleasant surprise in recent weeks. They feel natural and intuitive, along with the button positioning. The gameplay itself is fast but doable, and while you die a lot, there’s plenty of reason to keep coming back. Plus, how can anyone resist a game where a pigeon is all that stands between a city and total annihilation?- AppAdvice

Overall, as a bullet hell shmup fan who misses CAVE games, this is a great addition to my collection. The visuals are super polished and look amazing on my Retina HD screen, and the music is downright fun. Controls are easy to learn and can be customized if needed, but it's friendly enough for even newbies. The concept of bombing instead of dodging to survive is interesting and unique, making AKA TO BLUE stand out from the competition. It's challenging, and has high replay value. This is definitely a title that won't disappoint bullet hell fans.- AppAdvice

As someone who's never played The Talos Principle before, I'm in love with the game. It looks amazing and has great sound design. The controls work okay, but could be better optimized, but at least there is controller support. The story is intriguing from the get-go, and I do love a good existential crisis kind of plot. The puzzles are challenging and there's just a ton of content for the money.- AppAdvice

While I'm not usually big into interactive visual novels, Wheels of Aurelia is an exception. I'm loving the visual style of the game, and the music is delightful. Controls are simple enough for everyone to enjoy, and the character development and endings are done well. The game's all about the journey rather than the destination, and I think that's a great outlook on life in general. I may not have been on an actual road trip yet, but this game gives me a sample taste of it.- AppAdvice

Overall, ICEY is definitely a game that fans of the side-scrolling hack-n-slash action genre should check out. The game features amazing visual style, great sound, and the narration can be rather humorous and serious at the same time. Controls are okay, but should be fixed in the future. The key to victory in battles is dependent on your combos, so make sure to mash on those buttons and land as many hits as you can. The game says "don't think, just fight," and that's exactly what you'll want to do when robots are trying to get you.- AppAdvice

I’ve been a big bullet hell shmup fan, so DU3 is a welcome addition to my game collection. The visuals are gorgeous and polished, and the music is amazingly fun to listen to. As I’m familiar with the genre already, I just dove right in to the game without viewing the tutorial first, but I still recommend checking it for an explanation of all game mechanics. The customization of your ship, multiple modes and difficulty levels, and bonuses just give this game a ton of replay value. For the price, you totally get your money’s worth here.- AppAdvice

Overall, Kick Ass Commandos is proving to be an excellent way to pass the time. I love the old-school, modernized graphics, and the soundtrack is downright awesome. While the controls do take some time to get used to, it's fairly straightforward and works well enough for the most part. I just hope to see a bit more customization options added in the future in case some prefer tweaking the sensitivity. The missions themselves are intense and challenging, and there's plenty of replay value here.- AppAdvice

Overall, PUSH is a great puzzle game to add to your iOS game collection. The graphics are eye appealing and the sound is charming. While it explains nothing, you're able to pick up on the game mechanics as you tinker around, so it's friendly enough for everyone. I do wish that the game provided some different color theme options, just to spice things up a bit, but it's not a big deal. It's unclear how many levels there are, because you have to go through them in linear fashion. But from what I see, there's plenty of content for the price.- AppAdvice

Overall, I'm liking Final Fantasy Dimensions II, but not sure if it's worth the high price tag compared to other Final Fantasy games on iOS. The art style is lovely, the music and sound brings back memories, and the turn-based battle system is easy to follow. I'm a bit annoyed that it takes away the free-roaming exploration aspect of the long-established franchise, as that was one of my favorite elements. The game itself is good, but I'm not sure if it's worth $15. Perhaps if this was a bit lower, considering that it's a watered-down Final Fantasy.- AppAdvice

Runic Rampage is an excellent little hack-n-slash dungeon crawler experience that's worth picking up if you're a fan. The graphics are a tad rougher than I would like, but it works out well enough. The music is fun, controls work decently enough, and the gameplay is challenging with a lot of upgrades to unlock. I just hope to see the addition of customizable controls in the future, as I think that would help out a lot of players.- AppAdvice

I've only started playing Ruya this morning, but I fell in love immediately. The game's cute visuals are bound to melt your heart, and the music is delightful. Controls are intuitive, and the game does a good job of explaining how to play with the subtle tutorial in the beginning. Discovering Ruya's memories is a pleasant journey, and nothing feels overwhelming. The only thing that could improve this game is more levels in the future, so hopefully the developers have considered that. This is a game that I'm going to keep coming back to time and time again until it's finished.- AppAdvice

Overall, Beat Street is a fun little game that is perfect for taking out the day's frustrations in. I'm taken back to my childhood with the fantastic pixel art graphics (like other Lucky Kat games), and the music and sounds are fun to listen to as you play. The controls work out well, and being able to play with just one hand is especially nice. The levels are challenging and there is plenty of stuff to unlock to keep the game fresh and interesting.- AppAdvice

As a fan of twitch reflex arcade games and platformers, Hoppenhelm is a nice mix of both. I'm in love with the graphics and chiptunes, as they make me feel like a kid again. The one-touch controls make the game easily accessible for anyone with a touch screen, but the challenging gameplay and unlockable content keeps you coming back for more.- AppAdvice

FEZ Pocket Edition is a worthy addition to anyone's mobile game collection. The game's unique visual style is captivating and lovable, and the music is relaxing. For a multi-platform game that was ported over, the touch screen controls work well enough for most, and it's a pleasant experience overall. There are many secrets to find in FEZ, so there's always a reason to go back to previous worlds and find things you missed. Overall, FEZ Pocket Edition is well worth the money.- AppAdvice

I'm enjoying Cytus II a lot so far, and it's definitely my new favorite musical rhythm game. I'm in love with the anime art style, and the music is quirky, upbeat, and catchy. The game's tutorial is helpful in terms of showing you what to do with each note type, and controls are simple. I recommend playing with your device on a table or other flat surface, so it's easier to see upcoming notes without your hands blocking your view. I just wish that the price for the other two characters were cheaper.- AppAdvice

Despite the flawed control scheme on the mobile port, Thumper: Pocket Edition is a good way to introduce the game to those who haven't tried it before. The psychedelic visuals are rather mesmerizing, the music is soothing, and the challenge is there. It may not be the best game for those who get frustrated easily, but the sense of overcoming a level you've been stuck on is pleasing.- AppAdvice

As a fan of Slayaway Camp, it's not surprising that I also love Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle. It has the same puzzle mechanics, obstacles, and graphics, except it focuses solely on Jason Voorhees seeking to avenge his mother's death. It's more for Friday the 13th fans, or horror lovers, but it's packed with a ton of good puzzles that everyone can enjoy. It's hard to believe how much content you can play in this one without paying a dime.- AppAdvice

As a cat fan, Purrfect Date is a nice surprise on the App Store. I didn't know about the game before this week, but it's certainly a fun, interactive visual novel experience. Plus, dating the cats (crazy cat lady style) is fun and silly, which is to be expected from the same people who developed Surgeon Simulator. And honestly, the visuals are charming and appealing to everyone, and the sound is great.- AppAdvice

Despite the flaws in the controls, I'm still finding Temple of Spikes to be a fun and challenging game. The visuals are cute and detailed, the music is excellent, and the difficulty is just right for what's considered to be hardcore. It's not incredibly easy, but it's also not overwhelmingly hard. It's a good balance, in my opinion. The wide roster of characters also adds a lot of replay value to the game, especially since each one has their own unique traits. I just hope to see the controls better optimized in the future.- AppAdvice

Space Cycler is not a new game, but it was recently released and a nice surprise for me on the App Store. I love distinctive graphics that separate games from the rest of the pack, and Space Cycler has that. The music and sound are fun too, and the intuitive controls work well for one-handed play. The stages are challenging, and I can definitely see myself playing this for a while, especially with the co-op.- AppAdvice

And when I want to unwind with a puzzle, I don't like to be pressured or rushed, so the whole play at your own pace thing works well for me.- AppAdvice

I don't wish I worked in fast food or pizzerias, but Good Pizza, Great Pizza is a fun simulation of it. The art style is eccentric and full of personality, the game is rather humorous, and at the end of the day, it's pretty challenging. The assembly line controls are intuitive and easy for anyone to pick up, and once you get the hang of things, it just starts to feel natural. For a free game, Ava Airborne is pretty good. I love the fun visuals, the sound is awesome, and the gameplay is challenging but keeps you coming back for more. I'm a fan of endless games that do things differently from the rest, and Ava Airborne is one of them. The game is great for a free title, and even though there are ads, they're completely optional, which is nice. This is definitely one of those games I'll be coming back to whenever I have a spare moment throughout the day.- AppAdvice

I loved the original Trick Shot, so naturally I'm not disappointed with Trick Shot 2. The game ups the ante in terms of excellent visual design, the music is enjoyable, and the controls are easy to pick up. You get a lot of value for your money, considering that there's a ton of levels included as well as many new user-created ones to check out, and you can make your own. Just be prepared for a challenge — some of these are tricky, but it's a perfect game to play on-the-go.- AppAdvice
