Linelight is a refreshingly inventive, minimalist puzzle-adventure game. It takes the wildly simple premise of "What if everything takes place on a line?" and rockets it into outer space.

Each mechanic is immediately understandable, then gradually combined with familiar elements, leading to an exponentially large array bursting with puzzles, each with a one-of-a-kind solution.

There's no jump button. There's no shoot button. The way you move creates a universe of possibilities and one mind-bending experience. Guide Dash across the game's rich, clean, and relaxing worlds; Linelight simulates the experience of getting an A+ on an exceptionally hard test while receiving a back massage.

Ultimately, the occasional frustration within Linelight is born out of its uncompromising dedication to its core principles, which is a necessary evil considering how effective the execution the game's concept is. With audio and graphical excellence throughout, both of which are intrinsically linked, Linelight ends up being far more than the sum of its parts, all the while not sacrificing its entertaining puzzle gameplay for some greater sanctimonious goal. Through being a game that embraces accessibility at its very core, Linelight becomes a game that anyone can play, and everyone should play.

When I first saw Linelight at GDC, I was intrigued. The moment I picked up the controller and played it, I fell in love. Now that it’s on iOS, I am in love yet again. The game is pretty much perfect with the exquisite design, calming music, and the controls work out nicely. I was a bit worried about how the control scheme would translate to mobile, but it just feels natural. The puzzles are fun, addictive, and more challenging as you advance. There is a ton of content and replay value, so you are getting your money’s worth here.

Linelight is the sort of game I never get tired of stumbling upon. It’s an unexpected gem — slightly imperfect, but far too interesting and charming in its ambition for me to care. Not that it’s hurting for accolades, but if you haven’t tried Linelight, yet you definitely should.
