As much I hate to say it, Star Wars: Empire At War isn't worth the entry fee. This is a terrible shame, since it had such promise from the pre-launch screenshots, but sadly the repetitive and shallow gameplay, combined with the below par presentation and ludicrously high difficulty level, simply can't compete with the best of the genre.

Interestingly, the senatorial concept has also been expanded to the barbarian tribes and other nations allowing you to more effectively subvert them to your cause. Assuming you're willing to get your hands dirty and do some assassination and smear campaigning, then you can sow seeds of malcontent far better than before.

This is an essential purchase which is fit for burst play on the go and, control niggles aside, this is as charming and addictive as they come, with potentially staggering replay value as long as your imagination allows it.

There's a bit of untapped potential in certain areas, and the gameplay doesn't quite take that resounding next-gen leap forward that I'm still waiting for, but even with that being the case, I'm hard pressed to come up with any other 360 game that looks better or is as altogether riveting as the gameplay experience found in Lost Planet (well, except for "Ghost Recon" that is).

Anno 1701 is an addictive game that's easy to lose yourself in. It's the closest a game has come to emulating the easy, fun and challenging gameplay of The Settlers games while accidentally tripping over its own feet and landing on near enough the same disappointing combat system.

Sure, the game is a superb effort as a charity drive, but I see it more as a social experiment.

I really enjoyed Eternal Sonata. There are dozens of hours of gameplay available with numerous quests to embark upon, fantastical items, weapons and armour to collect and a genuinely thought provoking and accomplished story that I don't dare to reveal any more about for fear of ruining it for everyone.

The thing that stops it short of the perfection it's aiming for though is that it's like a magic trick. Initially you'll stumble around, stunned and trying to take in how it all works, but as soon as you get it, you cross that invisible line from audience member to magician, and, while the pleasure of the ingenuity remains, the magic is gone.

Born of Blood is a great addition to the saga and although asking for a full sequel so soon would just be greedy, this is a great way to tide fans over until Sword of the Stars 2 arrives on the shelves.

It has interesting features and plenty of action and intense shootouts to keep you entertained (especially when you get your grubby hands on the gatling gun) but between these parts you're left wandering around a dull environment with very little to keep you occupied.

The absence of the Missions Mode is disappointing and online play would have been a blast, but the weapon-based fighting system is still a lot of fun. The characters and levels are all there, the game looks great in HD and let's not forget this is a Live Arcade release; it sure isn't a bad way to spend $10.

In conclusion, Worms Reloaded is simply the tried-and-tested Worms formula jazzed up a bit with nicer graphics and a few additions.

If you can make it through GrimGrimoire's twenty to thirty hour story and twenty-five bonus levels - a task that may prove far too daunting for some players, even on easy - you can sit back and relish in the fact that you have braved one brilliant game and seen it through to the end.

So, if you fancy six classic games with arcade tweaks included, six pieces of time, six morsels of gaming history, then look no further than Street Fighter Alpha Anthology.

It's a decent attempt, but it lacks what it used to have, and if you own the 2004 or 2005 version then just stick with them and trade the appropriate players to the correct teams.

While a welcome online patch is currently in the works, it still doesn’t excuse the game shipping with such glaring issues. The meagre campaign mode is another thorn in the side of Tekken 6 and as such, the game simply fails to stack up against the slick perfection of Street Fighter IV.

As a fan of the series, Dissidia: Final Fantasy is my perfect slice of gaming for PSP. Utilising all the things done well in the previous games, while being inventive in all areas too, it should be a must buy for every PSP owner.

Sure, the camera can be a pain and the map isn't in any way natural to use, but you get used to these quirks and they don't get in the way of the very engaging gameplay, while very authentic renditions of every aspect of the LOTR world, both visually and aurally, are spread across the various campaigns and multiplayer game modes.

Just like every other episode, Sam & Max Season 1, Episode 6: Bright Side of the Moon is filled with tons of one-liners, bad puns, obscure references and all sorts of really great stuff that comes non-stop.

After nine episodes and nearly a year and a half, this stuff hasn't begun to feel old or tired.

An absolute blast to play from start to finish. Despite what I said about the rather basic gameplay underneath the destruction, I think the game should get a once over by any self-respecting gamer, fan of the genre or otherwise, as it's nice and simple, easy to play and yet difficult to put down.

There's allot I like about the game, it looks pleasing to the eye, sound and music is of a consistently high standard and there are some features that prevent the whole thing from feeling like a tired retread of other games before it. As a hybrid however it occasionally missteps and fails to fully succeed in blending two different types of genre's into one cohesive whole.

With incredibly realistic player animation and one of the most fluid and natural game experiences you're likely to find at the moment, an insanely huge range of options and modes, and more detail and stats than you could possibly want in every area, including the huge Franchise Mode, there's something here for everyone.

It's an instant classic and the perfect slice of fast twitch, shallow fun to give your gray matter a break from all that civilization building and warmongering.

Absolutely every aspect of the gameplay design and presentation is simply dripping with quality - the look and feel is totally unique, and the altered gravity, portals, alien weapons and spirit walking all combine to create the finest 360 shooter since "Perfect Dark Zero" at the console's launch.

The fact that it's more of an arcade racer and not nearly as aggressive as "Burnout 3" makes it a game for players who want a more chilled, yet still very entertaining drive. As far as sheer quality of production is concerned, it comes very close to beating its rival, being incredibly polished on all fronts.

Genre fans will enjoy King's Bounty, which will win them over with some brilliant ideas, but newcomers are unlikely to find much joy in this adventure.

What with the outstanding gameplay, the longevity of playing the beautiful levels over and over and the cracking sound effects, I say get Metal Slug Advance! It may be the greatest 2D shooter to hit the Advance.

There are definitely moments of triple-A brilliance to be enjoyed here, but they're occasionally overshadowed by the game's shortcomings.

This is no Final Fantasy but so long as you approach it with reasonable expectations, Tales of Vesperia should have no trouble finding a place to call its own in the affections of every discerning JRPG fan.

If you're a serious member of the videogame Pringle club then, with all its options, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is definitely worth a purchase. If you're more of a Sunday morning hacker, however, then the game's difficult beginning may mean that you never reach the entertainment that lies beyond it.

Overall, Greed Corp is a highly enjoyable title, but one that needs your devotion in sticking it through a few plays before you truly appreciate it.

It’s like a favourite toy: well-loved, and good for a quick blast of nostalgia now and again, but nothing else.

That rare breed of game that stands up both to quick bursts and extended playing sessions, making it ideal for a handheld.

They've tweaked and improved the gameplay considerably, included two fantastic multiplayer games and wrapped it all up in a beautifully drawn and dynamic sounding environment.

It's a tough job balancing action, adventure, puzzles and strategy, but Overlord II managed to juggle all of these disparate pieces and very rarely finds itself dropping a ball.

Altitude's simple premise hides behind a deceptively difficult game, but one that's easily learned and enjoyable to engage in. Although there's plenty of content here, more might have been better, but what is here does last, just so long as it's taken in the right doses.

Despite the slight stumble with the nightmare sequences, where you feel just a few tweaks would have made player experience match developer intentions, the only real issue with Shattered Memories is its incredibly short length.

This title brings back all the memories of Marble Madness but with countless alterations and improvements.

Rune Factory is a classic example of a game that has bitten off more than it can chew. It tries its best to offer freeform, open-ended gameplay but only manages to provide an increased number of choices to the limited 'kill all enemies' mantra.

Mirror's Edge is an intriguing and appealing concept that is wonderfully implemented in some respects and poorly so in others.

While it's undoubtedly one of the best looking and most consistently polished and flawlessly constructed games I've ever come across, with masses to discover and a very nifty class and skills system, its many neat touches and features can't hide the fact that it's a very straightforward old-school RPG, whose repetitive action can get tiresome and whose cutesy graphics will fail to inspire, or even impress, some people.

Maverick Hunter X is my favourite PSP game thus far and one of the very best games I've ever had the pleasure of playing.

Mario Strikers: Charged Football is yet another game that sums up the ethos of the Wii - pure, unadulterated, accessible fun.

Roogoo won't tax your brain with its puzzles, but it's certainly satisfying to play and offers a good, reaction-based challenge.

So perhaps Electronic Arts are on to something and the best way to enjoy this year's game is to buy it second hand and pay to access the online features. It's certainly an option because, as far as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 is concerned, EA get a pass – but only just.

There's very little in the way of any problems I could really find with the game, few criticisms beyond possibly the £15 price tag being a little steep, but ultimately Zuma's Revenge! Is everything a good casual game should be, simple yet challenging, basic looking yet somehow still displaying a graphical quality that makes it's 2D looks spectacular, just like all Popcap games then, this sequel may not provide much new over it's predecessor, but it still has that addictive charm that makes it worthwhile investment for anyone with a few hours to kill.

If you're interested in a solid tactical RPG then Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice is certainly worth a look.

Lost Odyssey isn't an RPG classic. It doesn't break new ground and it has its problems, but that doesn't keep it from being great.

It's a great game that will keep you busy for many hours across several months, offering tons of options and replay value; yet there are plenty of quirks and load time frustrations, and some things could use more optimization.

House of the Dead: Overkill is definitely something to do any day, cold and rainy or not; it's an extremely entertaining, light-hearted, pick up and play shooter.

Siren: Blood Curse is a triumphant remake of a sublimely brilliant survival horror game.

Overall then, PES 2010 definitely makes some noticeable improvements on last year's game, but, both on and off the field it still lacks the complexity and polish of EA's rival offering.

Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is, all around, a stroke of genius. The dialogue is great, the storyline will pull you in and grab hold, the graphical presentation is simply phenomenal and the puzzles are a joy to solve, if a little easy and linear.

Prototype is a frantic, fast paced, brutal and uncompromising open world adventure.

Features some very original and compelling ideas that make playing through the single player game an absolute blast, however it's very unfortunate that it just doesn't carry over into the multiplayer portion well at all.

The multiplayer side of Conker: Live & Reloaded has really impressed me. I didn't think that I could have been taken in with this type of third person action, but I'm hooked and addicted, just like I am to the single player.

The PS3 version is still a must play for PS3-owning Marvel fans and those looking for a game to rock with four players, but if the choice is there, you are only hurting yourself by skipping over the 360 version, because this one is a couple of heroes short of an Avengers team.

The cute characters, quirky storyline and unusual approach to the genre make AstroPop a blast for a while, but you'll be unlikely to want to play it for more than short bursts.

Age of Empires: Mythologies is a deeply involving strategy with lots of multiplayer options that when mixed with a robust campaign structure and engaging battle mechanics produces a game of real quality.

It has the potential to be marvellous, and it's still a cracking, deep strategy that deserves your attention, but until some new content is chucked into the mix it's best to leave this for a while and let it pack itself out with new stuff to make your online adventures that little more worthy of your money.

It seamlessly adds another dimension to the gameplay while piling even more ingredients into the blender. The addition of explosions and helicopter stunts give yet more hours of enjoyment too, for anyone who's daredevil enough to pick it up.

As much fun as Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney is, it's just not the big leap forward that the series should have taken, as a number of little niggles conspire to lower the score slightly.

It's safe to say that if you've never enjoyed the sedate pace of the Harvest Moon formula then Neverland's latest simply isn't for you - but if you're a fan of the series who's looking for a unique twist on the usual procedure then you need look no further than Rune Factory.

FIFA Football 2005 has more than proved its worth with some lovely new control features that add a lot more subtlety and variety to the gameplay, an extensive and highly involved career mode and those gorgeous graphics.

Like a gift that never stops giving, Sonic Rush Adventure is chock-full of content that never gets dull.
