    This is going to be another one of those sleeper hits that squeak out just before a consoles life comes to an end. A true gem that should be picked up before it becomes one of those sought after titles long past its short shelf life.

    GrimGrimoire is a brilliant, gorgeous, enthralling game that works just as well as a living art piece as it does as an RTS. The gameplay is fantastic, the storyline has hooks and the game is just flat-out gorgeous. But it. Buy it now.

    A great game and change for fans of RTS, and a great beginner RTS for those just getting into the genre. The "Harry Potter rip-off" comments all seem to be from people who forget there are thousands of books, tv shows, etc about kids going off to magic school, and the philosopher's stone wasn't invented… Expand… Expand

As a 2-D RTS, you won't find another game quite like this. The difficulty isn't high, but there will be some stages that will require you to try a different strategy. Overall I'm glad to see this breath of fresh air from Vanillaware (along with Odin Sphere), and am eagerly awaiting their next game (though I'd love to see the original Princess Crown).… Expand

    Difficulty is quite easy, but just enough for the core loop to be engaging. Aside from certain story missions, it is possible to spam super units FTW.
    Artstyle was something new for me at the moment of playthrough in 2020, given I haven't played any PS2 game before this one. I got used to it pretty quickly, and in all other regards cutscenes are made with love and care, so graphics are good in my opinion.
    The only things I find weird are sound and story. The latter is an obvious Harry Potter rip-off with timey-wimey I had a hard time following through, so I had to live in the present and enjoy the show, but I'm afraid I missed some plot points. Regarding the sound, I found many in-game sounds a little bit too similar. For example, sounds for healing, attack alerts, finishing buildings and units sounded all the same for me in the heat of battle, so I had to use mini-map to figure out what actually happened.

The story is filled with random characters who all have little motivation to do what they are doing. It's as if the developers made some story, then actually played a mission... Then they tried to continue their story without reviewing what they wrote before the mission. There's a whole disjointed feel to it all. It's as if the story and characters are all trying to go somewhere but don't go anywhere at all. Yes, it's a beginner's RTS game, but it's not very user friendly. I think it would have been great on the PC. It sort of reminds of StarCraft Brood War in a sense that there are no rally points and you can only select a small amount of units. So the game is you constantly selecting units and then constantly scrolling back to your base (since there are no hotkeys) to make units. I will say that the art is awesome.… Expand
