Even with all the content, for the current asking price it's difficult to recommend Gene Effect as something that will definitely be enjoyed. But as something peacefully simple but exceptionally pretty, Gene Effect will be right up the alley of many an iOS gamer.

As a free to play game, the lack of structure isn't such a big problem, fortunately, but it does make the urge to buy extra nets with real money less so. Circus Atari is a game that players may find themselves enjoying for a brief while but it's doubtful that Doodle Jump and Tiny Wings will lose their position as the most enjoyable endless runners of this sort.

While this game isn't the most visually stunning to be found in the App Store, everything works well and the gameplay is exactly what one would expect from a tic-tac-toe game.

I wanted to love this game from the bottom of my heart, I was ready to love it like I was a kid again, but the insistence on cheap challenges leaves me just short of unequivocally loving this.

The spot on level designs and clever "frozen" environments make this game a sheer joy to play.

On the Grid! is a good idea that is worth sharing though. Just know there isn't much to it besides that good idea.

Snabbit is a really fun and enjoyable faced paced arcade game. The controls are super simple and easy to learn and will be picked up in a minute by any casual gamer.

The only people who should be downloading this game are those who can't get enough karting regardless of quality.

Shaking the iPhone around to move the red balls around quickly, while trying to pin down ticking time bombs at the same time takes a good amount of concentration. It also looks pretty silly. This probably isn't a game many gamers will want to play while waiting in line or on the train. That said, it's a lot of fun and the various game modes make the simple game much more interesting in the long run.

It's unfortunate then that Fish Runner doesn't quite gel as well as other endless runners. Its high difficulty level thanks to the plethora of obstacles and sluggishness of Spiky makes it tricky to unlock new abilities any time soon making for an off-putting experience. With a tweak to this learning curve, things could have been a little more tempting.

The Sandbox is already one heck of a game, freemium or not, and it has nowhere else to go from here but up.

It feels like if HungrySquid had just been cranked down a notch rather than up it could be one of the iOS classics. Unfortunately, there's so much going on that it steps on its own toes somewhat. And I've managed to get this far without saying that it oozes potential, so there's that.

There are only 24 levels. There's replay value because players can go back and try to finish each level with three bombs (the least amount of turns). But even after doing that, the total playtime of the game is relatively low for a $2.99 game.

Both as a history lesson and as a fun adventure game, Head Over Heels succeeds. While its graphics may look dated, the strength of its gameplay more than makes up for this flaw. Either as part of the Elite Collection or separately, Heads Over Heels is keenly priced for the amount of content involved.

Dark Legends is at its heart still a fun game, and rather impressive considering that it's still free to play. It works out of the box with seamless cross-platform multiplayer. The only problem is that because it shares the core technology with its predecessors, the only differences are the setup and inclusion of vampires.

Babel Running is not one of the all-time great endless runners – it's no Canabalt or Jetpack Joyride, for certain, but it's an entertaining little game, and one that may be just a bit more amusing for those fans of Babel Rising because of its tie-in, though it's certainly enjoyable without having played it.

I can't stress enough just how intriguing the puzzles in Winter of the Melodias can be. It's a thoroughly enthralling and totally gorgeous adventure. It's not perfect, but it's absolutely worth it for fans of the original and the genre in general.

There's a good game at Goblin Legion's core. Too bad it's drowned out by all of its near-crippling issues. Fun is there but finding it takes too much work.

What really matters is the core gameplay, which is something that Punch Hero has nailed. I may never be able to dress my boxer in a robot costume, but I can still have plenty of fun without it.

Pandemic 2.5 is one of those games that really has to be played in order to understand what all the fuss is about. It's not perfect, sure, but it's the best viral Armageddon simulator I've ever played.

With the prospect of a more interesting story and setting than is usual, Farm Up is worth a look for those keen on the genre. It won't sway players frustrated by the time restrictions that are placed upon them. Ultimately, it is just more of the same with a different skin.

Age of Wind 2 is a commendable effort at a pirating sim. It just needs some interface adjustments. Okay, a lot of interface adjustments. But I have hope.
