The Melodies of every Song are unbelievably beautiful with an production that even tops her second Album Melodrama. The Lyricism is the cherry on top of Solar Power, beautifully written Lyrics that have Lordes complex Vocabulary but at the same time are easy to understand. It‘s definitely something new that some might need some time to adjust too but it was definitely worth the wait. Expand

It’s nothing like I wanted. Yet everything I currently needed. This album is a summer daydream, filled with yellow rays and good feelings. Something I desperately needed in these times of chaos. Acoustic guitars, cicadas, and hand beaten drums feel so rejuvenating. It’s nothing I’d ever expect from Lorde, yet I can’t say I’m surprised. She’s always been on a different wave length from the rest of us. I’m easily able to latch onto this drifting boat down a lazy river, enjoying the beautiful lyrics of connection and love for this planet.

It’s a record I know some will find polarizing. It’s not her usual thick 808s and fast talking that we all know and love. Solar Power feels like a stop and smell the roses kind of message, that I, and I’m sure many people, need to heed. It’s not comparable to her past works, for better or worse. In my case, it’s a welcome addition to her already masterful works.

After the success of Melodrama, I believe this is rhe best direction could have gone after her hiatus. This screams growth and maturity to me. Of course we're not gonna get a Melodrama 2. That era is done. And I'm loving that lyrically, it's still the same song writing we loved. Just in another era. And this era is what we need the most right now.

She told us what she was looking for to achieve with this release and she deliveries it. It's a happy mature album from a 24yo woman who does not relate to the songs she wrote when she as a kid anymore and that now wants to explore other themes and technicals skills.

Lorde really pushed herself through with vocals on this album, and anyone who's listen to a single song from her past works know that this is true. She's been more involved in production in this new album than in any other before and it's really refreshing to hear someone experimenting new abilities and studying something new. We already know by her 2 first albums what's she can do, and he'll yeah she can do anything with mastery, now what we're supposed to be expecting from her is anything that we DONT know she can do, and this is a nice, happy, and brave delivery of it. I'm no the biggest Lorde fan, but I like her music. Unfortunately, 'Solar Power' feels not that exciting and empowering. There's a couple of good tracks here, but the rest is filler, in my opinion. I think Jack Antonoff's involvement is to blame here. While a departure from Lorde's previous record and a number of people are not feeling this release, I find it to be a welcome, mature advancement of her musical abilities while also pushing forward in the areas of sonwriting and ambiance/vibe creation, where she succeeded since the days of "Pure Heroin" and perfected on "Melodrama." To me, Lorde shines brightest on the album's opener, "TheWhile a departure from Lorde's previous record and a number of people are not feeling this release, I find it to be a welcome, mature advancement of her musical abilities while also pushing forward in the areas of sonwriting and ambiance/vibe creation, where she succeeded since the days of "Pure Heroin" and perfected on "Melodrama." To me, Lorde shines brightest on the album's opener, "The Path," and on the album's closer, "Oceanic Feeing," which makes me happy as she wrote these songs alone. This album opens with realism ("'cause we're all broken and sad") and optimism ("let's hope the sun will show us the path" and an invitation to try to find the escape. The album closes by reminding us that all, hopefully, will be revealed in its time, but Lorde shares the importance of living in the moment and how finding that escape in the form of enlightenment hasn't happened, but you have to keep trying. Lorde, known for disappearing after album cycles are completed, ends the album announcing her desire to disappear in the crowd again when the time is right with "I know you'll show me how / I'll know when it's time to take off my robes and step into the choir."

If I am being honest, my initial rating was much lower in the B-/C+ range as I was not feeling the vibes on half of the songs despite loving the lyrics on all of the songs. However, I have listened to the album numerous times in various ways: through my AirPods, my phone speakers, and through my car. It clicked with me and I felt happy with this album on all levels. I still wish that "Stoned At The Nail Salon" didn't sound like Lana Del Rey's work on "Chemtrails at the Country Club" and that "Leader Of A New Regime" was a fuller song as I do love it so much, but it is still effective in its role on the album. I have seen numerous posts on social media talking about how it is a "summer album," but I don't see it that way. It's a life journey album with cameos by the healing power of the sun, being present in the moment, feeling all of the feelings (not just the good vibes), and knowing we are all a work in progress. Also, major props to Lorde for incorporating the cicadas. The sound GREAT in "Oceanic Feeling."

She did it again. It's soft, yet brutal and cohesive. She took those four years hiatus and made the most of it and this reflects on her lyrics. It's mature, selfawear and also reflect the need of a generetion who's trying to reconect with nature. Simply beautyful.

But, perhaps a day later, you see that food sitting there and decide to try it again, and maybe it tastes much nicer and actually really refreshing and .... different.... but nice still.

Guys, this is definitely a weed album! Roll up and chill with her, I think it might make more sense that way :)

It´s great. You're not getting a Pure Heroine 2, or a Melodrama 2, you're getting Solar Power, Lorde's new album is completely different. It's fresh and she clearly renewed her sound, it's another phase of Lorde. Melodrama is better, definitely, but this is not a bad album AT ALL. Just as Chemtrails Over The Country Club, being the predecessor of a great album (Norman F*cking Rockwell) made the audience have great expectations and be disappointed by the work when it's actually a good album. You can feel a different Lorde, a new sound. Fresh, nature-like, and with hipster vibes. It's very emotional. The cicadas, acoustic sounds, and guitars blend in together to give us a whole experience. Solar Power is a great album, there's no doubt of that. Lorde took us to the beach and we sat quietly listening to something bigger, full of nostalgia and love. She appreciates the path and definitely grew while walking it. Fallen fruit is a big highlight, and Secrets of a Girls Who's Seen It All feels so nostalgic and thoughtfully. California, Oceanic Feeling, and The Man With the Axe let us hear a deeper part of Ella. And lyrically, its also a masterpiece. Thank you Lorde, please keep making music Expand

I set my expectations low with early buzz from this album, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It’s more of a 7.5. This is an expiration/celebration of her identity. As she matures I’m sure there will be more great things from her. Expand

Her songwriting should be awarded by the Grammy folks.
Melodrama lost ALBUM of the year and it was such a masterpiece, but Elle went all the way to the Antarctic sea to bake a priceless album. It’s 2021 and it’s so difficult finding a great, pure and genuine work art like this one.

This album lacks all of the drama of Lorde's second album Melodrama. I think that is the point. The world has changed, and her world has changed—less anxiety and less exciting than we are used to, sure. But I think that is okay. Artists don't need to top themselves for the work to be good. This is good.

All these connections Lorde is trying to make: her strange pastiche imagination of the ’70s, that random spoken word interlude by Robyn about climate change, and the themes of “sun healing,” never fully reach each other. Often, they come off as disingenuous and out of touch more than they read as brilliant, or comical. Whether the album is one big prank, or just one majorly failed experiment, the gist of having the “privilege to ignore” is lost in translation. All you are left with is just a handful of pretty alright songs.

If you're riding and vibing with Lorde, this bright shapelessness is superb mood music. If you're not riding her wave, Solar Power can seem elusive, even cloying, as it circles and sways with a smile.

This might not be the album that everyone wanted from Lorde, but it’s a solid, dreamy effort that deserves exploration. There’s plenty here worthy of attention if you can focus for long enough.
