Solar Power is Lorde's Album of Healing. It transcends you into this summer world of peace that you might have nostalgia for in this pandemic. Overall her return to nature after her teen angst and sonical trauma shows her power. And she says, "but you gotta want it for yourself".

amazing album, lorde had nothing to prove to us, she could do the trending sad album like a melodrama 2.0, but she followed her plan, she did what she wanted to do, not what we wanted for her to do.

I've taken the time to listen to this record a second time in order to get a rating. Now I'm aware of the presence of Imbruglia, Tunstall, Bailey Rae, Bedingfield. It's another sensation, another Ella. Why do we settle for comparing it to Melodrama? Or with Pure Heroine? That's not okay. She's a girl who's tried to grow up [and is evident since the choice of the color yellow]. Of course,I've taken the time to listen to this record a second time in order to get a rating. That's not okay. She's a girl who's tried to grow up [and is evident since the choice of the color yellow]. Of course, each album is different in its own way ... or do you want the same girl doing the same thing over and over again? Why do we allow Gaga to reinvent herself? Or Taylor? Every time Ed reinvents himself, he goes from bad to worse and nobody says anything to him. Let the artists experiment! Leave Ella with her folkloric vibe and lack of percussion; she has done things for a reason, and it is time to enjoy them as they are. SP has not captivated me much, tbh, but I try, and it's true.

I was very disappointed in this album. I expected something better. Dont start with the “she’s happier now” or “you said that with melodrama”, thats not what I mean by better. I meant better. The album seems anticlimactic, all the songs have the same boring energy. Only good song is mood ring.

At best, cohesive. At worst, repetitive. Jack Antonoff’s hazy guitar is present on almost every song on this album, to the point where tracks begin to blend together. It doesn’t sound bad, but many tracks are plain and unremarkable. Slightly disappointed knowing what Lorde can do, especially with a lot of time.

The album was very underwhelming after such a masterpiece like Melodrama. It would’ve been less upsetting if she released it earlier so people wouldn’t have raised expectations to a high level. Cute beach album but that’s all.

Most of the tracks on here are pretty but forgettable. Ive warmed up to the singles Solar Power and Mood Ring but they still lack bite. I can almost guarantee that Lorde's next album will perhaps be her most personal and most mature and im looking forward to that. Doesn't top Melodrama but it doesn't feel like it's trying to, it's a perfect summer record.

There are certain albums I relate to on a personal level because it coincides with major life moments: heartbreak, love, loss/grief, etc, but this one fills the gaps with what I think/worry about in between those bigger moments. Lorde has always been ahead of her time and I truly believe this record will be a cult classic and appreciated years later. Expand

It's disappointing that Lorde was more interested in mocking anglo-saxon soccer moms sprawled out on yoga mats than she was putting out a single with some semblance of originality. And the line about not wanting to be a savior, when she had publicly called out other artists for the toxic implications of their music in the past, seemed contradictory and was a bit of a head scratcher. Melodrama certainly wasn't the masterpiece others have made it out to be either, but at least that record had tracks that could easily be distinguished from each other. The instrumentation on Solar Power simply doesn't play into Lorde's strengths. She's at her best when she's belting out formulaic synth-laden bops and bangers. The Laurel Canyon sound doesn't suit her and frankly should be left to the contemporaries who can do something interesting with it; she is not a Lana Del Rey who can excel with most any genre she touches, so she should refine the sound that works best. If it's not necessarily commercial success she's after, then I wonder what that 4 year break was for, because the message isn't what most would consider to be revelatory. Musings about the pressures of being a pop star and healing through nature are cliche, and when you've thrown poorly executed satire into the mix, you've got an album with a muddled focus. Speaking of satire, Lorde should be careful about parodying spirituality. Rene Descartes put it best: "Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they're in good company." I'm feeling a strong cringe to a light yikes on this one. Expand

You may be disappointed if you expected melodrama 2.0, but that doesn't mean this is not an amazing album. It's her most more mature and relaxed era and even though there are a couple of weak tracks, overall the album is quite an experience. All these connections Lorde is trying to make: her strange pastiche imagination of the ’70s, that random spoken word interlude by Robyn about climate change, and the themes of “sun healing,” never fully reach each other. Often, they come off as disingenuous and out of touch more than they read as brilliant, or comical. Whether the album is one big prank, or just one majorly failed experiment, the gist of having the “privilege to ignore” is lost in translation. All you are left with is just a handful of pretty alright songs.

If you're riding and vibing with Lorde, this bright shapelessness is superb mood music. If you're not riding her wave, Solar Power can seem elusive, even cloying, as it circles and sways with a smile.
