    i love the fact how she subtly mixed all the elements of her past albums to create this one.
    i did not really expect much from the album but when i heard cry about it later and not the end of the world i just went like "WOAH!?" i turns out katy sucks at choosing the singles because those two songs just blew my head off like seriously the song NOT THE END OF THE WORLD is like her song    i love the fact how she subtly mixed all the elements of her past albums to create this one.

    A fun album a return to form of Teenage Dream in terms of sound with nice and polished production of Witness. The album is quite digestible for a normal listener who isn’t too familiar with Katy’s music.

    First time I listen to a Katy perry full album! GURL! this is a skipless album, all songs are single materials, great production, and high lyrics quality which is very rare these days, they can be marketing hits if well managed. I think I am a fan of her now lol which I couldn't even imagine years ago.

'Smile' (album) is a joyous rebirth for Perry, who documents her struggles in the 12 emotional tracks. It's important to note that the songs are organized in little vignettesFollowing the lukewarm response to her previous 'Witness' album, and a bandwagon of hate in response to her *cutting her hair* (yes, people are sadly that wavering), Katy Perry found herself in a deep depression. 'Smile' (album) is a joyous rebirth for Perry, who documents her struggles in the 12 emotional tracks. It's important to note that the songs are organized in little vignettes dedicated to the different progressive emotions she faced as she came out of the depression. (and each also ironically begins with a single that prepares you for the songs that follow, with similar sounds to them)

    In the first vignette, she brings club beats in an attempt to almost be ironic to how she's feeling. Almost as if to say, put the feelings on pause, and the bop on play. It's the kind of music you'll wanna cry to as you're dancing, as you feel the lyrics resonate with your own personal situation.

    The second vignette shows a more vulnerable Perry, from the melancholy 'Daisies', to the self reflection in 'Resilient'. This doesn't seem as apparent with 'Not the End of the World' UNTIL you pay attention to the mention of "flipping off the flop, now I just enjoy the ride". It's the type of self-reflection that you don't find with most artists- acknowledging and almost mocking it. To be brief, NTEOTW is a badass song in general. I digress.

    Third, we get a turn-around in lyrical content. Katy’s tone is more hopeful, happy, and sounds more along the lines of the Katy we’ve come to know and love. At this point, our girl is back to feeling like herself and we’re happy to hear it.

    Lastly, we’ve come to Perry at her most confident and happy. While ‘Harleys in Hawaii’ is a calm departure, Only Love and What Makes A Woman are truly statements on life and outward thinking. Both are important moments— not only in this album’s progression, but in Katy’s discography overall.

    To end this review, Katy Perry took a moment that would be difficult for anyone to go through (not to mention the fact that she’s in front of millions of people as it happens) and came out of the other side a better version of herself. This shows not only in her newfound bliss and serenity, but in the powerful messages in every one of the songs on this album.

    It’s an album she should be proud of. It’s a defining moment in her career.

Katy has given the world such a beautiful piece of work to always remind us and herself that we CAN get through the tough times but somehow that message got lost for the critics and they are focusing on they’re own opinions on Katy & somehow even bringing up other female artists as if it is okay to pit women against women, it’s not ! I am so proud of Katy for releasing this most personal yet most fun piece of work 12 years into her record breaking career. Even during these dark times the world is facing katy is offering us all a slice of positivity, hope and love, to be honest that’s all we can ask for in music right now and katy perry did it. giving birth & releasing an album in the same week pretty much sums up how amazing, passionate and hard working katy is. i recommend this album to everyone, no matter your taste there is something for everyone. this is a beautiful piece of work that will be remembered forever for its empowering message & perfect sound. honestly all I can say is thank you katy perry.… Expand

    One of her best albums to dates. The lyrics, the production, the messages...everythinggg!! There isn't any song that you would skip. We truly needed an album like this one during this time in the world especially the song Only Love. Some of us should really go listen to that song and practice it in real life. A MASTERPIECE❤

    This is an awesome masterpiece. All of the songs are bops. As a katycat, I'm proud to Katy, because she can pass any challenge that came to her earlier. She finally got back her smile.

    2020 only could have been improved by this masterpiece. SMILE :) We know NRO, HIH, Daisies and Smile. The new songs, tell you, that Katy and her team kept the best songs on the album, so the best singles are coming!

    Without fleeting moments of bad taste, Perry does indeed sound mature, but she's also not quite as fun. That's a conscious choice, though. Smile is intended to evoke memories of her frivolous younger days while pointing toward a sustainable pop future.

    Like Joanne before Chromatica, Smile plays like a necessary centering exercise, indulging her insecurities and less surefire instincts. If Witness was overdetermined, Smile is an earnest exhale, for better or for worse. It delivers an image of her journey towards inner peace that is honest (if corny) and catchy (if not exactly inventive).
