    Unlike some of past work, Smile is musically coeherent, cohesive, yet puts a downtempo pop beat track with a more acoustic touch sound in the same album. It really shows lyric-wise and in rhythm how much Katy Perry has grown and is able to produce a variety of music styles.

    It´s one of my favorite albuns of the year and also her career. It is joyfull and i believe is the tipe of record that we need in this difficult times. I found it very cohesive with barely any skippable songs and couldn´t desagree more with the critics who are bashing this album back and forth. You can dislike the artist as you want but don´t use this or any excuse like "this isn´t theIt´s one of my favorite albuns of the year and also her career. It is joyfull and i believe is the tipe of record that we need in this difficult times. I found it very cohesive with barely any skippable songs and couldn´t desagree more with the critics who are bashing this album back and forth. You can dislike the artist as you want but don´t use this or any excuse like "this isn´t the right time to launch this kind of music" to give such a harsh review on somebody´s work. Be fair.… Expand

    It’s truly a great album! Never have I found myself so in tune with Katy, I have not found a song that I have not thoroughly enjoyed, or out of context. Furthermore, in my opinion all of them could be very valid singles. As I listened to it for the first time, I found myself smiling, getting excited and identifying (and finding myself) in the songs ... alone in the car, like an idiotIt’s truly a great album! Never have I found myself so in tune with Katy, I have not found a song that I have not thoroughly enjoyed, or out of context. Furthermore, in my opinion all of them could be very valid singles. As I listened to it for the first time, I found myself smiling, getting excited and identifying (and finding myself) in the songs ... alone in the car, like an idiot ...     A true lyrical journey from Katy's last years since Witness.
    There is no bad music and the vocal evolution is totally clear.
    What Katy wants with this album is that we can smile, despite the moment we are living in the world. It is an album that injects spirit and makes us hope for better days.

    Without fleeting moments of bad taste, Perry does indeed sound mature, but she's also not quite as fun. That's a conscious choice, though. Smile is intended to evoke memories of her frivolous younger days while pointing toward a sustainable pop future.

    While Perry finds the occasional moment of quality here (Smile and Tucked both feel like the best possible music we could get from Katy Perry in 2020), Smile is an album searching for an identity—and when it fails, it falls back on lazy writing.

    Like Joanne before Chromatica, Smile plays like a necessary centering exercise, indulging her insecurities and less surefire instincts. If Witness was overdetermined, Smile is an earnest exhale, for better or for worse. It delivers an image of her journey towards inner peace that is honest (if corny) and catchy (if not exactly inventive).
