    Her vocals are good but the writing is weak and she seems more interested in making a “sex” type album rather than a meaningful deep one. Having 10-15 producers doesn’t help

    I think critics don’t like it beause we’re not used to ariana singing with R&B (i mean, she always did r&b but this time it’s a whole album). It’s so good, i think thank u, next is better but yeah it’s her second best project. No doubt

    This is her best album; hands down. I'm not sure why it has such a low rating. She has matured so much, and this album is truly my favourite. She sounds like an angel throughout, and I can't stop listening to it! I actually don't understand the negative reviews; what is there to hate about this album. It's so beautiful!

    This album is a refreshment after the repeated release of generic bubblegum pop music this past year. Positions shows just how much Ariana has grown and developed not just as an artist but as a person, and does so in a light and fun way. Beautifully produced and her vocals continue to never disappoint (will definitely listen to again)

    Ariana surprised the world with this pop album inspired greatly by r&b elements which took her discography to a whole new level. From her single “positions” to the emotionally written “pov”, Ariana Grande continues to push her limits. 10/10

Still, God bless her - while this album lacks the obvious wow moments like God Is a Woman, Breathin', or Into You - she was clearly doing this album out of fun and followed her heart. A lot of the songs on the album show potential, but ultimately suffer from sounding undercooked. The first two songs are hands down the worst songsLove love love L-O-V-E Ariana, but this isn't her best work. Still, God bless her - while this album lacks the obvious wow moments like God Is a Woman, Breathin', or Into You - she was clearly doing this album out of fun and followed her heart. A lot of the songs on the album show potential, but ultimately suffer from sounding undercooked. The first two songs are hands down the worst songs she's ever recorded. Starting from track 3, the mood shifts and the songs get progressively better. I particularly enjoyed my hair, nasty, love language & pov. Nevertheless, none of the aforementioned tracks can hold a candle to her biggest hits. The cohesive production is also one of its downsides... it is very hard to tell the songs apart after a while since all of them sort of sound alike. I still think she deserves respect for doing an album that's less commercial in nature and probably more reflective of her own taste though. 6/10… Expand

    absolutely amazing! gives a feel of strong femininity and being not ashamed. songs have a wide range of vocals. my top three are: safety net, my hair & 34+35! completely in awe of ariana’s amazing vocals and talent to be able to produce songs from a different genre.

    this album showed her artistic growth and at the same time went back to the steps of yours truly. The rnb sound fits her voice perfectly and this project is the most cohesive she's ever put out. My top 3 is my hair, shut up and love language.

    Very high highs but very low lows. Love Language and pov are excellent and unique songs, while a good portion of the others sound fairly similar with generic beats. Had a lot of potential, but feels rushed.

Ariana Grande had a challenge in how to approach her sixth studio album, for her last album, thank u next, was made in direct response to the grief and heartbreak in her life, but Ariana delivered better than ever. Unlike sweetener, positions, a life update and in the process of healing album, Ariana does not pretend that everything is okay, but she instead shows through referencing her previous work of thank u next directly in positions that life can and will get better and she is working on it. She questions the things she wrote in the quick 2 weeks of 2018 stating "is it real or just in my head," "learning to be greatful for myself," "all my baggage fading safely," etc. which is very heartwarming to those who are seeing the artist grow and progress. Musically, Ariana's vocals are incredible: with many stacked harmonies and beautiful whistle tones which Grande especially shines in the track "My Hair." Somehow, Ariana has topped herself again, it is exciting to see where she will continue to go in the future.… Expand

    Grande is making no effort to be discreet, instead explicitly owning her sexuality—the album is called Positions, after all. The juxtaposition of beautiful violin sounds and risqué lyrics has become one of Grande’s signature sounds, and it suits her well.

    With little conflict and few psychological insights, Positions zeroes in on the enviable confidence that only pop stars on top of the world and with nothing to lose can afford. It's easy to write it off as empty calories, but pop has always been described in such terms: cake, candy, chocolate, confection. Positions isn't a "sweetener" but pure sugar.
