Taylor Swift's new album "Midnights" exists so that the word "cryptic" has a definition. With sounds that seem to walk between Reputation, Lover and Folklore, but with an original, innovative and experimental touch in Taylor; and the lyrical quality that is never lacking. This is, without a doubt, one of her best albums, and I could bet on this one for the title of "Album of the Year".Taylor Swift's new album "Midnights" exists so that the word "cryptic" has a definition. This album is fantastic. It has all the best production aspects of 1989, reputation, and Lover, as well as the lyricism of folklore and evermore. Would've, Could've, Should've and Lavender Haze are the standouts right now, but all the tracks are great. It's also her 10th album after over 16 years in the industry and the fact that it's this good is insane.

Taylor once again proves that she's her only competition. She doesn't have to prove anything at this point, she's just creating art for the sake of it. The bonus 7 tracks are simply a cherry on top. Her willingness to share the whole creating process with us is one of a kind. She comes back to pop after her venture through other genres and constructs a new standard for music all on her own. Again.

Great album This seems like a mix of 1989, Reputation and Lover. I like the concept, and the lyrics are top tier (not as good as Folklore ones but still amazing). I was VERY excited for SOTB for the Lana collab, but she appeared 15s and not as main vocals; the song was boring and nothing was shown up.
    Highlights: Lavender Haze, Maroon, Mastermind
    Worst: Snow on the Beach

This album is a true masterpiece. Once again, Taylor Swift is proving that she is the standard for a successful musician. I really enjoyed Red, Folklore, and Evermore and going into this optimistically, I was extremely disappointed. A lot of the lyrics and tones of voice were corny and overly sophisticated for no reason. Pretty boring album, the only reason I’m not putting a zero is because Labyrinth was good and Lavender Haze was tolerable.

Same sound as previous album…wish she would do something more like folklore and evermore

Almost rivalling Black Country, New Road's album as the best of the year, "Midnights" is possibly modern production at its finest.

    Taylor Swift's worst offering yet.

There are only two songs I have any recollection of after listening (Anti-Hero & Karma) and the rest are either unmemorable or sound the same (or both). The lyrics sound like she put her discography, some words she thought sounded nice, profanity, and some pop culture references into EI and this is what popped out. The lyrics sound like she put her discography, some words she thought sounded nice, profanity, and some pop culture references into EI and this is what popped out. It's cringy and incoherent and she uses too many vocal effects. It sounds like she both hates herself and is obsessed with herself and revenge and desperately wants you to think she is a badass. There are many cringy lyrics such as "Karma is a cat purring in my lap" and "Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby and I'm a monster on the hill." One would hope these were cheeky songs, except she sounds like she is trying to be sensual. I'm not a Taylor-hater by nature either. I was a fan for the majority of her career but this is all the worst elements of her music put together and amplified. Listening to this album truly felt like she was trying to see if she could put out terrible music and still dominate the charts and have critical acclaim due to her name-powet. It is a cringy and disappointing offering.

this album is consideted as one of most diverse pieces of art i've ever heard. since taylor and jack are exploring different sound + new lyricism, it creates a very creative LP that deserves those acheivements
+ this album is fun lol :)

Good album but a bit boring. It was hard to get through as the songs all started sounding the same but I love Taylor and I’m sure the songs will grow on me with each listen.

Expand

I wanna be just honest, I couldn't listen to any of these songs I listened to every song but couldn't even let the song finish, I skipped them all, my ear bleeds now, what is this mess? Everything is a mess and boring af , it's literally the worst albums of the year I'm so disappointed , it's more like a piece of sheeesh, more than being a piece of work

Midnights lacks ambition. Nothing new when it comes to sound and production. No risks. Just a safe play for her to sell something.

It allows Swift to do what she has always wanted: make an album for its own sake that is received primarily as a work of art instead of a commercial entity or tabloid fodder.

While her 10th album doesn’t make instant classic status like 1989, and Evermore and Folklore remain her masterpieces, it is still an understated, beguiling look into the mind of one of the biggest pop stars of our age.
